RQS Hulkberry Auto And Royal Haze Auto Round 2

Hi there :)

My advice you didn’t actually ask for lolling!

This pot looks too dry for my liking:-

From what I’ve seen, weed growers often seem water obsessed. The fear of overwatering often seems to result in underwatering. I don’t think it’s good to let seedlings, adolescent plants dry out. Once the roots are established you have more room to play regarding let the dirt dry out, but I think while they are finding their feet, they need moisture.

Just what I think mind you. I’m just another forum armchair expert lolling!

The pots were soaked and fed on Saturday and still felt heavy today, but the tops look dry. I had pretreated this dirt with diatomaceous earth and I'm wondering if that didn't mix all the way in and is causing weird dry spots to happen. Either way I'll give them clean water tomorrow to see what's what.

The pots were heavy when I went to water today but the tops were dry. This has been an issue with this dirt and grow. If I go back to dirt I don't think I'll pretreat with D.E again, the dirt has been weirdly hydrophobic this grow. Any way after assessing the weight of the pots I decided to water the three plants out of one gallon of ph'd water. It may have been a bad Idea but I did a bit of LST on the sick plant, I bent the main stalk over and the plant has reoriented itself towards the light. Here's how they look now.
Hulkberry

Royal Haze V2.1

Royal Haze V2.2
The stem on this plant is purple which I'm thinking is also a symptom of whatever is happening to this plant. The other royal haze has a fully green stem so its not strain dependent.

Thanks for hanging out! Cheers, and Happy New Year! :roorrip:

Happy New Year to you too!

More advice you never asked for… lolling!

When growing I follow more a nursery style grow style. Given a nursery is built on the back of growing cuttings, seeds, I feel like they’re in to something lol. I’m not here to reinvent an already working wheel.

I start seeds in a seed tray, small plants in a small pot, then move up till I get to the end pot. A smaller pot helps keep the moisture where the developing roots need it. If you have a tiny seedling in a big pot with all the moisture at the bottom the seedling is moisture starved coz its little roots can’t yet reach the moisture. That’s what I think anyway.

I’m really enjoying watching you grow :)

This is the technique I use when growing photos, I usually start in solo cups, up pot to a one gallon, and then up to either a three or a five for final pots. These are auto flowers though and I was under the impression that its best to not transplant autos. So I always start them in their final containers. I've been watering this way for my last few grows but I haven't had problems like this. I'm thinking temperature, pretreating with D.E and my underwatering is doing me no favors here.
I’m really enjoying watching you grow :)
Thanks!

I checked the plants today and they pots are heavy, but the top of the soil is dry again.

Maybe I just start watering more often with a smaller amount of water. I did take what might be drastic measures though, I removed all of the sick leaves from this plant. it has a bunch of leaves that look healthy and I though maybe if I get rid of the sick leaves that might help the plant. I'll be keeping an eye on it.

In other news I bent the Royal haze v2.1 over for some lst and I saw some pistils, so that plant is either sexing or going into flower already, which is just about four weeks from sprout. I should know more by next week on that one.

Thanks for hanging out! Cheers! :roorrip:

I treat my autos the exact same way I treat my phenos. And I always remove sick leaves. Like I said I grow with a gardener’s mindset. Gardeners never leave shitty leaves on a plant lol. I know weed growers say different but like I also said, I’m not here to reinvent an already working wheel.

That dirt looks too dry to me. I don’t like cracks.
