Rex's Perpetual Hydroponics, LED, 4x4 Tent Using TBC 10 Gal System: All Are Welcome, Come Learn & Help

My experience with the mega crop to date has me thinking it's a serious hit or miss. When it works and is dialed in, you can get some fantastic results. Soon as you start showing deficiencies it's a lot harder to rein in.

The heater...well the garage isn't heated, and right now the heat system in there needs some work- I got until fall to sort that out. If you look right above the heater, there's a spare inline fan (4 inch) blowing right on it. The heat is dissipated quickly- you can comfortably put your hand on it.

Thanks- I'm considering ditching the MC on this grow, I've got some other options.

Journal update

so...like a kid on Christmas morning I check my camera in the tent as soon as I wake up. This morning was a good sight, two of them have shown some positive phototropism and are spreading their leaves. The runt...well she's just doing her thing. One in the front left, she seems to still be unhappy. She's also showing some nute burn signs and is still droopy. I'm glad I dumped the res last night- sometimes it pays to trust your gut.

Day 31
Veg Day 16
Tent temp: 21C avg
Tent RH%: ~70-80%
Previous PPM: : 708
Current PPM: 760
Adjusted PPM to: 786 (adjusted)
PH: 6.5 adjusted to 5.4
Res temp: 18.6C
Water level: down very slightly- topped*see below
Light draw settings from wall: 142 Watts

So...there was a slight rise, which I expected. There was still nute solution in the medium that was running at 900ish. When mixing it would obviously raise PPM.

I added 3grams of MC
And ph'd to 5.4

High Rexer are you doing any foilier spray ? It helps with deficiencies in veg !
Congratulations on MOTM nomination!

@Dusty Kiefers just stopping in to see how you are coming along.

I have never used Mega Crop so I can't comment on that, but you are correct the ladies are hurry.

Someone with experience with Mega Crop would have to comment on that.

Since your using MC, I think you may be able too use a floral spray if you need to.

I just don't know how much cal/mag is in MC; so if you do use a floral spray like Epsom salts go light first.

Tok..

Ive changed nutrient lines up in the middle of a grow before so it shouldn’t be a problem.. Ah ok that would make sense then, those plants just look hungry. But your definitely on the fast track to recovery, excited to see them bounce back Rex.
I've did it before as well and feel somewhat comfortable leaving that option open. They look/were hungry, the light was moved too close and dialed up too high- IMO.
I hope they are heading back on track, thank you. I just wasn't comfortable bumping that much that quickly.

Thanks West Hippie :green_heart: that was such a pleasant surprise, a sincere thank you to whomever nominated me.
I've never done a foliar spray in my life in all honesty, but I think it's time to learn how and do it.

Thanks Tok, i always appreciate your stopping by and support. I think both you and West Hippie are correct and I need to figure out the amounts, I've never foiliar sprayed before in my life...I'll be doing one tomorrow I guess, as I just missed the lights going off.
It’s been my personal experience that a lot of cal/mag is needed when running MC, especially in hydro, and even more if your running intense LED’s. Take that for what it’s worth... we all have different grow setups and therefore have different requirements to reach success with each set up.
And that's the biggest issue with MC. The problem is that it also has a high nitrogen, which I think most cal mag products also have (I'm terrible in this part and trying to remember what I read, bluter and weaselcracker have wrote about it). It makes for a fine line of adding too much before locking out other nutrients. Don't quote that part- and anyone can feel free to correct me...I know I can add some right now, was hoping that the fresh batch of nutes would remove that need. I gotta re-read some journals, my memory just ain't the best. :bongrip:

Edit- found the info I need. Just one question- what ph level is used for the spray?

I like a thrive alive for my foilier spray but I’m seeing cal-mag being used . Can you take a pic at lights out I think the grow light makes the girls look light in color .
Congratulations for JOTM nomination also .

I cannot comment on foliar sprays as I’ve never had to use them. However on the subject of supplementing cal/mag with the MC, I had the same problem initially, quickly grabbed a bottle of “TPS OAC Cal/Mag” and resolved that issue immediately. TPS has no nitrogen or other nutrients other then organic calcium and magnesium. If you add that to your MC regiment you can add as much cal/mag as you want, which is what I do now. I only run megacrop, TPS cal/mag, and Bud Candy.
This is my room 2 weeks into flower using nothing but the above mentioned.

I added the big bud with the bud candy and I believe it helped ! Nice big garden you have there .

Good to know! I’ve been tempted a few times now to add some big bud and other nutrients that I have left over but the plants are always so healthy that I’ve just not felt a need to add it yet. I’m waiting until I get a plant that shows deficiencies for it and then I’ll attempt to troubleshoot it with some extra food.

I run mc (I’m in soil though) I mix it just under dose and add half strength cal/mag for the LEDs throughout then add a K kick in late flower. It sounds kind of similar to how you hydro guys go. Reassuring for me as I arrived at the regime more or less intuitively.
I’m also adding Si at quarter to half doses to counter a powdery mildew issue. Silicon seems to help.

I’m sure you’ll pump out some worthy meds here Rex. Congrats again on your nomination :high-five:

Thank you! That too was a surprise, I couldn't get over that one, still making me smile. I just went out and took some pics- gotta love that part of autos- and they're down below. I've been meaning to get some thrive alive

Beautiful garden, perfect colors & happy plants!

I tried looking for TPS, found one for 60 bucks for a quart. Didn't order it, but I might...its tempting. I just gotta watch my budget closely moving forward. For now I'll keep using up the GH one. Somehow I think I'll be adding that at one point.
Edit- I should mention I'm in Canada

Thanks DD! I have a bit of rhino for silca, was going to start adding some in once everything else was worked out. I know it can sometimes play havoc with PH and I'm already drifting from ~5.5 to ~6.5 twice a day. I knew the LEDs would change things, but never thought it be by this much lol.

Is anybody else having trouble with the back button. Every time I hit it it shuts my iPhone off !
Nope...not on mine, but I'm using the app on an android...

Is there a way you can clear the cache?

I went through all my web pages and all back buttons work properly. 420 just shuts me out !
Hmm you can send a pm to Marc maybe?
I think this thread is being monitored for any website issues

Water level: down very slightly- topped*see below

Distance to plants~ 3 feet

So they're perking up, the changes seem to be having the desired effects. Today the following was added to bump PPM slightly:

30 ML of Cal mag

I then went in at lights off and did a foiliar spray on the bad front left one, and the runt. Just as a test since its the 1st time.

Foiliar spray had following:

A few drops of cal mag into a 750ml bottle of RO. I then added 20ml of Diamond Nectar. I checked the PPM, was a bit high, and dumped the top third of bottle, and replaced it with RO. PPM was at 338. PH: 5.9

Pics with lights on/off. Let me know which one is preferred so I don't do both lol.

Both are great, I’d say lights on for glamour shots; it really shows off the beauty of the plant, and lights off for diagnosing issues; imperfections seem to stand out more out of the bright light.
