Really nice photos Relaxed Lester .I like those grow bags and wonder if they are temp pots or will you grow them out in them?
I have been wanting to start seeds this month of some varities but the snow covers our frozen ground still. I' ve been seeing birds like robins and canadian geese coming back the last couple weeks to little to no food,They sure are winging it through some tough times those poor things they have to be thinking
The grow bags are not temporary, they are final homes for the plants inside them. I can't put the tomatos in the ground because they don't get enough heat or sun that they'd need in that planter bed location that is available, not to mention there are big roots coming from these big trees in that spot, so I would see diminished yields, and problematic tomatos if I put them there. The grow bags are 7 gallons each, and I got 25 for 25$, and is a killer deal if trying to grow in containers, and not have to pay 10-15$ per plastic pot. Hopefully the bags will last 2 seasons. We also needed to have them in containers, as well as the cantaloupe, so we can stimulate nice and healthy growth with heat on the bricks. Mind you, were on the ocean, so tomatos don't fare as well here unless given the exactly appropriate conditions. Same for the cantaloupe. So I'm doing a little experiment, but I believe I will see healthier plants, and higher yields for these plants that were not able to thrive in the ground last year because of intrusive roots from other big trees that are impossible to remove.
Thanks for the kind works closetorganic, your always welcome to stop by
Mmmmmm, maters. Is that another tortoise? Looks neat!
It is a decorative tortoise, heh, heh. And yeah I'm excited for the tomatos, they're really loving life. They came a long way already.
So much great stuff since I last checked in! I am so glad to hear the Broccoli turned out! When I grew some myself I was amazed at how much tastier it was than store bought. All that love and time pays off! Your garden is looking lovely my friend! Looks like Methuselah was about to go to town on that succulent?
Thanks brother! Yeah, Not sure if you grew the Romanaesco, Mind you the brocolli that is only flowering now was literally planted in March of 2013, took a YEAR to come to maturity. Not sure if that timing was similar for your brocolli, if you have any pictures of your brocolli feel free to post them here Yeah, a lot of time and love, there are certain times for the brocolli where it is very vulnerable to bugs, so I had to wash out the "head" with a jet function on the hose to blast out all those bugs, worked great. Luckily they didn't come after the flowers themself. In fact, I am seeing signs of self-pollination by the brocolli, so probably time to pick those flowers and make a salad. The stuff tastes best raw and right off the plant, Incredible. Excited to see this "Monster Broc" flower out too.
M. decided to "hike a mountain" and went on top of the succulent, he doesn't eat things that don't taste good and that are barely edible, doesn't take him long to figure out what's what. He's intelligent by far, very active and wants to be around you with what your doing, just need to make sure he can't get into the lettuce, or else itd all be mowed down in an instant. He also does not like mint, but loves Habiscus flowers. Thanks for the kind words stoppin' by, welcome anytime.
