I would definitely disagree. We absolutely live in the golden age of marijuana. States are legalizing. The public opinion is not as negative. And every day new crosses are made and new lighting technology etc...
On top of all that with the legalization happening, master growers are coming out of the wood works and sharing their knowledge and passion with people like you and I.

Sounds like the golden era to me when you compare it to any other decade
 
However I'm with you. Sometimes the crosses are not as strong as an original landrace.
There's a strain grown around here called redbud. However I'm pretty confident it's a Mexican landrace no one really knows the original name however it always has a killer effect. But the taste and smell are shit. It's been kicking it around here since the late 70s and I'd love to get my hands on a clone but they are pretty hard to come buy.

"Golden" applying to legalization & states/other countries lightening the fuck up on cannabis laws: Yes.

Not so "Golden" is an industry run amuck, unregulated in many important regards & shitweasels selling crappy genetics for ridiculous prices.
I could spend the next several hours pointing out grows here on 420 that aren't the genetics that people think they are, & paid good money for, but they're simply not.
Also not "golden" are fuckhead speculators getting into the business & upping production of (shitty) herb, driving the prices DOWN, making it pretty damn hard to make a decent living farming artisan-grade flowers.

A shared viewpoint as well. I think I just may fit in here.

And with regards to artisan grade flowers. If it's good enough they will come. I don't know about you but I can't smoke shwag weed no matter what the price. There are people who "smoke pot" on the weekends on the back deck of the bar. And then there are cannasuers like myself who seek out the best tasting best hitting M best appealing bud no matter what the price.

You can tell if you are a cannasuer if you expect every single plant in your grow to be better than the last one. And you are constantly on the verge to tweak and improve. I don't just seek to grow cannabis I seek to grow the best cannabis I've ever tasted and smelled every time I put a plant in the ground.


So yeah I'm not buying 5$ grams of johnny's legal warehouse grow.

In an emerging, legal to quasi-legal (medical) market, shitflooding with Grade C flowers drives prices down across the region. I'm sure local consumers think that's good, but in the end they miss out as the best flowers find buyers elsewhere who don't think it's their "god given right to pay bottom dollar." Production of AAA-Grade flowers won't be tripling to make up for prices tanking simply because some greedy assholes drive the market into the shitter-the artisan grade flowers will simply go elsewhere, where they're truly valued.
Moral of the Story: You don't get Möet for Budweiser money, gang. And you piss off the artisans growing those flowers, acting like you're somehow entitled. But I digress, as it matters not to me personally, & is just a socioeconomic observation.

Lol as surprising as it is I don't sell anything either lol I'm growing a continues indoor grow that harvest a plant usually once a week. And almost 150 outdoor plants with some nice ones in there. All this goes to my personal stash lol I make bho and I also make a pill recipe. Well my best friend does I should say. He's my helper in the woods. It's my show he's just along for the ride and in turn he doesn't have to buy for the year and we are fully stocked of a self supplied medical marijuana cabinet. With a variety of strains to treat whatever I feel like treating at the moment lol
 
He has a sick grow too. Took his spare bathroom and built a wall in front of his tub and then made a top over bottom DWC set up. Which is sick because to change the buckets he just pulls the plug and they drain to the tub. And then he turns the water on which is connected to a hose and fills the buckets up right there. The wall actually splits in half and comes out in 2 sections. To the untrained eye you can use his spare bathroom and think it's a hot water heater back there or something. No smell no noise. It's pretty sweet I'll get pics.

My take: Almost all modern weed is potent and satisfying. Fem and regular seeds can both produce a wide variety of results because of the differing skills of the growers more than anything else IMHO. You can talk about the genetic merits of this or that all day but in the end what you can do with it shapes the outcome every bit as much. So to me a green thumb is actually the most important difference between varieties.

Is one variety really better than another?

I think we all pretty much agree the strain with the coolest name is the best. :smoke2:
