Real Grand Daddy Purp From Seed

For sure. Stick to what works for ya. But don't be afraid to try new things either. If u get a chance to grab one or two and do a side by side u should. I think ud be convinced personally.

As to the comment about having to fill to the brim for a true 5 gallon... two things. One dimensions vary by manufacturer, I use Aurora brand (made locally for one) but they print a line on the 5gal mark.

Two. Agreed. Smart pot brand fabric pots are true 5gal bottom to top. No more no less. But bear in minfld that I can achieve a rootmass in a 5 gallon fabric pot that would take 8-10 gallons in a plastic pot. Look up the research behind it if ur skeptical .. it is true.

And a third for the hell of it. Self healing... I train my plants.. as a result my plastic pots ended up kinda swissed looking after a few cycles from punching new holes to accommodate. After so long its bend the plants further to reach existing holes (something I do not like to do.. I do lst with an emphasis on LS) the fabric pots I can punch a hole where needed. After the cycle I throw of in the wash and the holes are gone.

And a fourth then I'm done I swear lol. Cleanability.. 11 times out of 10 (yep lol) I will choose the luxury of dumping my used soil giving em a shake and throwing the in the wash over dumping the soil. Rinsing pots outside in 30 degree weather (wife would KILL me if I did that in her sink or tub.. even the grow tub lol. Then soaking in a soapy bleach solution, scrubbing, rinsing til all the bleach is gone the drying or waiting to dry... I'd MUCH rather by the fabric pots use em 3-4 cycles and toss em out than deal with plastic pots ever again. Then factor in more vigorous root froth, more feeding sites and a larger root mass in the same soil volume and well... for ME the choice is a no brained.. but again they're not for everyone. What's most important is that what u do works well and all involved are happy with the product at hand.. that supersedesany opinions or preferences.

Very convincing arguments. :)

Thanks man. Just speaking from my personal experience. They're not for everyone for sure but IMO for most.. they are just what the doctor ordered. But lets not lose sight of the fact that really matters. Your are happy with ur results. If u decide u wanna try and improve or experiment then $12 in fabric pots is about the best starting point I can personally fathom. But different stroke for different folk. I just aim to educate and learn. Anyway man sorry to inundate ur thread with that lol.

No worries man. I think of my grows as a way to learn and teach. I prefer that people pitch there info. :) It helps me and many other growers.

So when I was looking at the girls it looks like the FCJ is catching up with the Exile when it comes to bud size. The Cheese is a little behind but seems to have the most sites. I am thinking that 5oz is a good target but if they swell and continue to bulk up I may be the mark.

i like the fabric pots and the smart pots too, but for me i use the smartpots because they are at most 4 bux for the price i paid for my 1 airpot i can get 4 smarts, everything above is true plus i like how the plants grow the root mass in a smart pot is amazing more roots in a 3 gallon smart than in a 5 gallon plastic , the plants love them i can squeeze more smarts into my tent than plastic or airpots my tent is basically solid medium from side to side, i water however i want don't worry bout runoff they will suck it all back up, i just make sure the inner liner of the tent does not leak, i used to use 2Lhempys but smartpots tripled my harvests!!(the root determines the fruit) i adapt to the pots im using not the other way around, its all about what the ploants like and do best in in my enviros, smartpots are ruling the roost:thumb:

Yea I cant find any cheap air pots in bulk any where. I think I may go with smart pots also. This SNS book I was reading recommended them also.

Not much to report other than some great looking buds and I gave em a little squeeze and they are firmer than anything I have ever felt that should be a little squishy.

Thanks for the reps Buckshot and Potchimp. I appreciate the kind words. :)

I forgot to mention that some GDP love dust has made its way across the country. I hope GG7 enjoys it. :)

Yeah I am hoping to see how it works for GG7 when he has things sorted out. He has been through a lot.

Wonder whats up? Havent seen him on here lately either. Hope he's ok. Im pretty sure he will enjoy the love dust

With his father passing he has been dealing with family matters and the estate. It is a tough thing to go through.

Some great posts on Smart Pots. The extra aeration will definitely get you better growth, but there are downsides, like the soggy bottoms. I still like them, but I prefer "Air Pots". Air Pots give you the aeration benefits, but without the soggy bottoms. Hard sided traditional pots can be nice for moms or plants that you don't need the accelerated growth from, or just don't want to water as frequently. But, the extra oxygen to the root zone, and the ability to feed/water more frequently as a result can make for dramatically faster plant development.

The other nice thing, as someone mentioned, is that the aeration from them "air prunes" root tips and makes the roots develop better laterally, which ultimately allows for much larger plants in smaller pots.

Hey X, What's a good ideal size air pot to grow & flower in

It honestly depends on how big of a plant you want to flower. Is size an issue? I just flowered a Jack the Ripper in my last round in a pretty small pot (3 gallon equivalent). A larger pot might have given me even better results, but it was a small mom from my limited veg space area. Here's info on the 3 gallon equivalent Air Pot:

"This funky-looking pot goes by the name of Superoots Air-Pot, and its design actually improves the root system and stops root circling. When roots reach the inward pointing cones, they are directed outwards (in a regular pot, they simply deflect to the side, which starts the vicious process of root circling). When they reach the holes at the end of the outwards pointing cones, the tips of the roots dry up. This tricks the plant into growing more roots.

The Superoots Air Pot 3 Gallon Equivalent is 10" tall by 10.5" wide and holds 2.2 gallon/8.4 liters of medium. Less medium, superior results! "

The 5 gallon equivalent pot would allow you to grow a pretty darned nice plant I think, but there are larger sizes too:

"The 5 gallon equivalent Air Pot is 13" tall by 11.5" wide and holds 3.6 gallons/13.8 liters of medium. Less medium, superior results! "

Finally starting to see lateral growth in the buds. They should really take off as they will be getting fed tomorrow night and the molasses will be upped. :)
