Real Grand Daddy Purp From Seed

You will love it. :)

Yeah I have been boosting with molasses as well but only half of what I would usually use. I am using 5ml/gal as opposed to 10. I will bump it up to 10 next feed though. I am really happy with how my buds are looking. I did not run the cal/mag on the last feed as I have yet to see the deficiency, so I think by adding it during transition I may have given enough of a boost that I should be trouble free. Corey also mentioned to just add a little more of Micro or Bloom (3 part) if I see a cal/mag issue as they have those minerals in it. I am just thankful that my grows are typically trouble free so far. :)

Welcome aboard 420GT. Glad to have you here. Now you need to get caught up on my 3rd journal that is already in progress. ;)

I didn't care much for the smart pots. They are light and that's a plus. And they are very easy to store when empty. But, if you use the 5 gallon pot, you have to fill it to the brim to actaully get 5 gallons. They leak .....so you loose alot of water. Lots of run off. So, you end up wasting nutes .... since you have to mix your nutes per gallon. You can't just pour in a gallon of water and let it soak down in on it's own. If you did, it'd all run out the sides. You have to water ... wait ... water some more etc. They also stay wet on the bottom. They end up growing shit on the outside of the pot. You have to wipe them down from time to time to get rid of the crud. The don't always sit right because the deform a little when you lift them. They get kind of round on the bottom and can rock if the plant is big.

They worked fine. And the plants liked them ok. I still have some and will probably use them again at some point. But, I like the hard plastic ones better.

I love my plastic pots just for the reasons you mentioned. Also having the grow on the second floor I can not afford any spills. :)

Couldn't disagree more. One thing I never see people do that is a critical step to success is... wait for it... bottom feed. I use trays, two 32 oz cups over the top to open the capillaries. Then fill ur tray and allow it to wick hempy style. They take getting used to but they are the one thing in my garden that will NEVER change. I used an ebb and Flo system for a while for a soil grow in smart pots. Flood once every four days. Smart pots own all in soil. /.02

And after they've absorbed water put them on milk crates. They're not for everyone but when uses properly they're an amazing product. Bottom feeding prevents the soil from compacting as well. I've always bottom fed fabric or plastic.

Interesting debate but I will just stick to my generic pots. :)

How quickly do they dry out though?
I've seen zero difference between plastic or fabric in terms of water frequency. If there's a difference its merely but a few hours in my garden.

For sure. Stick to what works for ya. But don't be afraid to try new things either. If u get a chance to grab one or two and do a side by side u should. I think ud be convinced personally.

As to the comment about having to fill to the brim for a true 5 gallon... two things. One dimensions vary by manufacturer, I use Aurora brand (made locally for one) but they print a line on the 5gal mark.

Two. Agreed. Smart pot brand fabric pots are true 5gal bottom to top. No more no less. But bear in minfld that I can achieve a rootmass in a 5 gallon fabric pot that would take 8-10 gallons in a plastic pot. Look up the research behind it if ur skeptical .. it is true.

And a third for the hell of it. Self healing... I train my plants.. as a result my plastic pots ended up kinda swissed looking after a few cycles from punching new holes to accommodate. After so long its bend the plants further to reach existing holes (something I do not like to do.. I do lst with an emphasis on LS) the fabric pots I can punch a hole where needed. After the cycle I throw of in the wash and the holes are gone.

And a fourth then I'm done I swear lol. Cleanability.. 11 times out of 10 (yep lol) I will choose the luxury of dumping my used soil giving em a shake and throwing the in the wash over dumping the soil. Rinsing pots outside in 30 degree weather (wife would KILL me if I did that in her sink or tub.. even the grow tub lol. Then soaking in a soapy bleach solution, scrubbing, rinsing til all the bleach is gone the drying or waiting to dry... I'd MUCH rather by the fabric pots use em 3-4 cycles and toss em out than deal with plastic pots ever again. Then factor in more vigorous root froth, more feeding sites and a larger root mass in the same soil volume and well... for ME the choice is a no brained.. but again they're not for everyone. What's most important is that what u do works well and all involved are happy with the product at hand.. that supersedesany opinions or preferences.
