Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

Very nice! They sparkle like Vegas at night.

For years only a couple people grew Trailer Trash Betty. Being a outlaw strain seeds were never available on the open market. Because of that it only got bred into a couple select strains. Mostly by the original breeder. A couple by me. Still they were similar minds with similar genetics. So the outcome was always similar.

Now that the walls have been broken down. TTB seeds started making their way around the country. Since that time I have seen numerous hybrids with it in it. Yeah maybe I fanned the flames some by telling of its breeding ability. Still people took the strain into places it never would have been before.

One thing I have learned over time. You can make hybrids with anything. Some strains are just better than others for breeding with. TTB is one of the best strains I know of for breeding. Like Blueberry with flavor. TTB has consistently brought crystal, size, and reasonable harvest time. Now that the genetics are being used in hybrids by others. I get to see even more of what it can do.

I plan to use it more in the future with frostier, stronger, and newer strains. Strains that really don't need anything extra. I am really curious if it will add something to already great strains. I would love to be able to get a clone from Gorilla Glue or one of the other Clone only strains out there. If crossing Blueberry and White Widow with everything works. Why not TTB.

This one off hybrid I made here, I consider a winner. 4 of 5 phenos are A+ as far as flowering time, frost coverage, and potency.

I can't yet say if the 5th one is good, still flowering after about 12 weeks. Yield will be high, but lacks the frost and speed of her sisters. I don't mind waiting as long as it's worth it.

I am finding myself quite happy with less than mainstream genetics.

I am working on that LOL. I have followed strains for so long it is hard not to not find interest in all the new stuff flying around.

I now find myself with enough stuff to look at and work with. No need to chase the dream anymore.

12 weeks is pretty long. Trailer Trash Betty does have a real long flowering pheno. Usually it is pretty frosty. I had one plant go over a month after the grow was over. Finally took it only because I was shutting down the room. The breeder thinks it comes from the Super Silver Haze that was bred into it at one time.

Found Fuel! Real nice gassy flavor to the second Snowdawg 3. Even better than the Chemdawg. What a nice hybrid. I really want to get some Snowdawg 2 from Alphakronik someday.

I forgot how great the old Og type high was. Fuelly flavor, strong happy high, Nothing not to like. Just another of the old school type of genetics I have come to love. What's great about this one is there are lots of similar hybrids to choose from. So many you can choose more than 1.

Hello Jackalope, I've been a fan of you and pennywise for awhile. I've also am a fan of genetics whether it's the beautiful cannabis plant or Human genetics lots of similarities. I was wondering how you go about your breeding I've been looking to breed AOG with Blue frost. In the past I made a few mason jars of colloidal silver and tried spraying one AOG to get her to reverse no luck. So I stopped and wanted to get more genetics under my belt. Now I do and would love info from you
on the best way to get pollen.

Would you recommend rodelization for pollen? Another thing that worries me is cross pollination. Somehow messing up my girls in flower or risking tracking pollen into the other rooms. Is that a big concern? What do you recommend to keep the pollen in check?

Thanks! Nice Fish by the way. I used to drive out to Yuma from Goodyear to fish. I've never really cared for fishing but always find it peaceful just sitting there.

Rucifer999 Even with the fact that you don't care for fishing I will try and do what I can to help LOL. My feminizing projects have not come out the best. I use a product called Tiresias Mist which has CS in it. Best to find other info for working with CS. Best and easiest way to make a seed is with regular pollen.

I have no idea of what rodelization is so I probably wouldn't recommend it. LMAO

Now when it comes to pollen. That shit can get everywhere. The biggest thing you are going to need when you breed is space. You are going to need to keep the male or reversed female well away from plants that you don't want pollinated. I also prefer to not have them around any longer than needed.
I do any pollenation at a different time than I do my regular work around my grow tent. That way I can change clothes and not carry extra pollen around on them.
I also have found it is better to collect pollen and paint it on. Projects left to open pollinate have not worked as well. It is harder to control where pollen goes with open pollination. Plus with open pollination there is going to be a lot more of it flying around. I collect it with tin foil and apply it with a small paint brush. You will need to spray the rest of the plant you don't want pollinated with water after you paint pollen on. Even with being careful there is a good chance that some will drift a bit. Nothing wrong with that if it is only a seed or two. Sometimes it can work in your favor when a surprise plant comes along and has a seed in it. As long as you know your male it is a known hybrid and could be better than the one you had planned. It will happen no matter what a little pollen will find its way out.

Male plants start putting out pollen pretty quick. After I have collected enough to pollinate a few branches than I kill the male and get rid of it. The more pollen that is there the harder it is going to be to be able to control. My feminized projects have not produced clouds of pollen but I hear they can. I have a 2 story house. When breeding the tents are on different levels and different ends of the house. So my best control of pollen is Space lots of it LOL. Not all people are going to have enough room to grow and breed at the same place. I did a lot this year just because I may not have enough room for long.

Thanks you Jackalope for the reply. Especially coming from you. I have spare bedrooms space isn't an issue. When I tried Colloidal silver I had it in a different area. I've seen a video online that showed how the male plant popped open and there was a cloud of pollen. That is what I was worried about.

We sound similar anytime I enter the grow I put on new clothes to avoid any pest or possibility of other issues. I was going to invest in some attic suits from the hardware store.

Been waiting for the right strains to come along and I think I found them. AOG with Blue frost. I know it will take years but that's what will make it fun and rewarding.

Haha I don't like eating fish reason why I don't do it. I enjoy camping and have a few other outdoor hobbies. One of my favorite things was laying out at night in my sleeping bag in the military and looking up at the stars. I always thought the only thing I'm missing is Cannabis haha.

Thanks again for responding.:adore:

I'm going to be concentrating a lot this year LMAO. Trim is off the charts. I may not have got a whole lot more buds than last grow. I did produce a lot more THC. I am just going to need to process it. Water hash is my normal fallback concentrate because of the simplicity. Making BHO is easy enough to begin with. Purging it is a different story. I have been making wax more than shatter because I don't have a vacuum chamber. Wax is a pain in the ass. Or it is for me. With only one batch a year it was no big deal. This year I am going to have lots more than that.

I broke down and ordered a Ablaze Vacuum system for purging shatter. No more bubbly extracts for this guy LMAO.

As I mentioned before I plan to be strain specific. Mostly it will be sativa to shatter and indica to water hash. When it comes to the sativa shatter I have a plan. I really like all my daytime weeds. They are all pretty damn good all on their own. Thing is they are all slightly differnt. I find I really like the mix of a little C-99 followed by Tangilope The blend of sativa highs works perfectly. Because of this I am pretty sure I will make 2 mixes of sativa shatter. One C-99 and Tangilope. The other C-99 and Cannalope Haze. This will give my shatter a more well rounded high. Or that's the plan. Just as soon as weather warms enough to work outside I will try my first batch with a vacuum purge.

No problem hope it helps. If you plan to continue feel free to check in anytime you have questions. I will help if I can. Nothing wrong with getting some cheap coveralls if you can get them cheap enough. They really should only be used once if you want to be totally safe. Even cheap ones might cost to much for a one time use thing. Better to plan on a few extra seeds here and there and be careful.

I have to agree on fish. I am not a big fish eater. I do keep a few here and there. Fish is really good for you I am told LOL. Mostly I like to hook fish, pick on them for a while and let them go there marry way. Just think. If fish communicate the abduction stories have got to be interesting LMAO.

They would probably say what that guy Roger said on training day in the snail joke "The F#@*S your problem" haha.

rodelization is a natural process where female plants at the end of their life will hermie as a last ditch attempt to reproduce. I don't think many breeders see it as a viable alternative. Sativas seem prone to rodelization if you let them mature long enough.

Hey wow I did know what that was LMAO. It is the original way of feminizing strains.

Soma was a big fan of making feminized seeds that way. Ended up with lots of hermies in his strains. Better to do CS. You want strains to not hermie when stressed. Strains made from stressing a female only shows that they will hermie.

It is also why the feminized seeds took so long to become main stream. Most breeders didn't like the early processes for making them. Thanks Penny

Question Time! Now that my growing career is on hold for the foreseeable future. I plan to drop my Random Thoughts Journal.

Kind of looking for a new place to land. I get lots of questions and don't mind helping others when I can. So it wouldn't hurt to have a place I can be found. I just don't know where it would be most helpful and interesting to others. I tend to know more about genetics than I do about growing. Now days even the best minds can get lost with all the new strains and breeders. Hell with all the new lights and grow systems I am kind of lost there too LMAO.

So what do you guys think?

Soma also ripped off some NYC growers with his NYCD line, dudes sketchy.

Talked to Mr soul about him after he mentioned knowing Soma. The way he put it. The man is like his strains. "A little bit out there" LMAO.
I idolized the guy early on. Till I spent a ton of money on his Lavender strain. The biggest waste of money ever. I also have heard he is anti American which is funny because he was from here. I was told he sends hermie seeds to american buyers because of this. Can't say it's true but I can say I got all hermie seeds when I ordered.
