Random Thoughts: Plants & Genetics

Ha ha I lied. I wanted to post a few pictures of the best pheno of the Seedking Purps X Tahoe Og. There are 2 of these so it seems to be the most prominent. After only trimming I know I am going to love this strain. It has a lot lighter berry smell than the Purple Betty. Both smell more like strawberry than anything else. The underlying smells is what's the most interesting. Flavors are going to be very similar to the PB.

As you can tell this is covered in trichomes. Buds are not huge that is why there are no cola pics. Every bud even the ones on the lower parts of the plant are rock hard. This is about as dense as any strain I have ever grown. Another interesting fact. These plants have great structure. This plant never needed extra support during flower. All plants have a very sturdy stalk and branches. Something to remember in the future if I find strain that needs help along those lines.

Without further ado here is what I call Strawberry Purps

Well I got threw the re-pot without problems. Everything is in their new homes and settled in.
The flower tent is plenty full. While they all fit in here now it would have been tough to grow 9 plants this big from the start in this tent. They didn't look as tall in the bigger tent. Hell the Purps x Tahoe plants were as tall as the light so I know they would have never worked in a 48 x 48.

All the starts are doing well in the new pots. Now we see how much veg we can get in the next 2 weeks.

The new purps hybrid is going to be real interesting. It is a much more sativa high from the one plant I have got to try. The 2 best phenos might be different. The one plant I have got to try was Tahoe Og dominate. I am pretty sure that is where the tallness came from. It definitely had the single cola type growth the Tahoe had.

I was wondering what I could cross with the Purple Betty to lighten up the high. While it is great at nighttime it can be a little powerful for daytime use. Looks like this hybrid does that for me. Lighter Berry smell than the PB so these 2 could be grown together. Now I just need to find the pheno I want to self. If the most prominent pheno has the same high I will definitely want to self it. This is the same strain that has the menthol pheno. I will be finding out soon how the smell equates to flavor. If I can find a short menthol pheno with the right high I might just self it too or instead. Then I wouldn't have the similarities with the PB smell and flavor. One way or another I will be selfing this strain so I can have it feminized.

The menthol smell has changed a bit as it matured. Becoming fuller in ways. Not quite the menthol it started at but still really nice. It all matters how the flavor comes out. If it doesn't then I am going to figure out how I want to cross it with the Columbian Gold that has similar smell and flavor but it wasn't very strong and the flavor was light. I don't figure finding what I want to be easy but at least I have options now.

I just need to decide how I want to do it. The only real option I see is reversing a Purps hybrid. I don't know how they made the C.G. seeds. Tell I learn more about reversing feminized genetics I am going to stick with only selfing regular strains. Might not be the best option to get what I want. One way is going to be better than the other. I will have to do research on how best to transfer what I want.

Found some more info on what I call Menthol Purps. The breeder says there are more menthol phenos to look for. The short pheno I want to find is out there he had it. Also there are 2 ways of of getting to menthol. Some like mine start as menthol than change to something else. Others start sweet smelling and turn menthol late.

So there we have it. All I have to do is grow this strain tell I find a short pheno that turns menthol late. Then I can start from there. Probably just need to self it then. One can hope.

There is also another very interesting pheno in this hybrid. One that I had forgotten about. I was visiting when he had this plant. It smells like onions. Yep onions. How the hell it showed up is as much as a mystery as the menthol pheno. That is what makes Tahoe Og so interesting. It tends to throw really different smells and flavors. Tons of trichomes doesn't hurt either.

So much for talk of the future. It's not here yet. I got all the new starts manipulated and sprayed for P.M. Can't forget to spray. Only one crop PM free so far. Going to try and keep it that way. I can't let the fact that I am not seeing it mean it is not try to come back. You never seem to notice it tell it is out of control. This old house and all the dust means I better just spray no matter what. Better safe than sorry.

I noticed a while back my new grows are controlled by my last grow. Not enough of something and I tend to make up for it on the next crop. That is why I find myself with very little nighttime weed. Effects matter a lot and I don't know for sure what the effects are going to be with what is left. Most are sativa dominant so chances are I am screwed. Jars and Jars of motivational weed is not good in winter time LMAO. I am going to take a couple plants later if I can to see if I can find more body in the high. Only 2 weeks left for them one way or the other. I could take most of them now if I chose to so they will be mature. Just not sure if they will be to the levels I want to take them.

I do have to say that if that Chocolate mint Og had not hermied I would be fine. Starting to make me more mad now. Nothing like laying awake trying to sleep gives you lots of time to think about everything. For some reason my mind is the only thing that won't shut up when I tell it too..... Well that and the damn cat she begs no matter how much I yell LMAO.

Hopefully you find the realxing brain shut down your looking for. If not dont you worry I have plenty lol. Every nug in your flower tent look so dense its crazy and all the color is extremely eye catching. Your young ladies all look as healthy as can be!! Keep up the hard work brother!!

You got to love colors. I get temps in the 50's a lot so color is not a problem. I am supprised that one of the Genius has no color at all. The other 2 turned purple the best stayed green. The temp in the tents were differnt but not by much. Only 5 degrees or so. Might be all it takes. Could be other things who knows. The Headband plants in the same tent had no problems turning color.

Really weird that purple used to be rare now you find it everywhere.

Thats what I was going to say I see more purple in a day now, then I would in a year before. Does the 50°f lows disturb the gowth that you've noticed? I always try keeping my lows above 64°f.

Yes I think it does. I try to avoid it but when I can. While I don't mind temps getting that way at times. I definitely wouldn't do it just for color. For me it is a byproduct thing.

While some strains turn color because of temps some do it late in flower no matter what. Then there are the ones that grow purple in warm temps. Confusing little bastards LMAO. Another color that can be cool is the reds. Usually they will have some yellows and oranges in the leaves too. They can be beautiful.

Back to the waiting game. Going to wait a couple more days to harvest anymore plants. The last of the Basic 99 and Genius are finishing up.

Still no idea about the R.K.S. and the Tangilope. Both are frosty as hell so I am pretty sure they will be good. I just have no idea what the effects will be. The Tangilope has some of the knobbing looking buds of the Tangy. Not quit as prominent as the Tangy but it is there. Bud density is through the roof you can see the family resemblance. The trichome production is every bit as good. That's what makes it interesting. While they are both sativas the highs are lots different.

As of now I have a great variety of daytime weed. I really wonder why I ever buy genetics. Here again it looks like the strongest weed could be good old outlaw genetics. The Seedking Purps x Tahoe is great. High doesn't last as long as some strains but the intensity far makes up for that. Really wish the Purps side came through more as it is great for sleep. 2 phenos left untried so I may get one with a different high. As is I will always grow this strain just not for a indica high LOL.

My problem is that the midday stuff I planned is now my nighttime weed. The Headband is great for relaxing and is a great mix of mind and body. While it will work for nighttime use it could be better. I would rather have a indica dominant strain as they work much better for keeping me asleep.

That is basically what is going on in my world. That and watching the veg tent veg.

Busy busy man glad to hear everything is nice and mellow for you today. All that trimming a man needs a break. I have never tried any of the strains you have growing out maybe thats why I get so excited everytime I notice a new update in your journal!! Hope all is well bro!! Were getting slammed with 30mph+ winds and single digit temps not including windchill. Its going to be in the low negs through Monday. Great time to work in the garden!!!

Sounds like my world. So glad I don't work out in it anymore. I sure miss the stupid oilfield money. Don't miss the nothing shuts down for weather attitude though LMAO.

What's really funny is the worst weather I have ever seen I had to work in. If your sweat turns into icicles it might be to cold LMAO. We were stranded on location for 3 days without relief once. Food and water were at minimum levels when we finally got out of there. We were only working 12 hr shifts so even the big lunches ended up being small LOL. No big deal as it took the 2 of us working 20 hrs a day to keep the well producing. We didn't get much time to be hungry. We got paid overtime for it but not one thank you. We could have shut the well in and fucked up a multi million dollar frak job. I was given the option. This would have made it easier on us for sure. We were stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing to do might as well work LOL. Man I was a gunk ho M.F. back in them days LMAO.

Blind loyalty was a great thing in the passed in the oilfield. Nowadays everything is owned by big business and the hands out working are just nobodies.

YEH F**KING HAW!!!!!! The very first of the plants I tried to pollinate with reversed female pollen has dried and finished. As you have probably already guessed. I got seeds.

Not many. Only 7 seeds in 2 nickel sized buds. The regular pollen was producing 20 to 30 in one bud same size bud. Some buds may have more others will probably none. This was my first try at pollinating only a branch with female pollen. It is not quite the same as with regular pollen. Mostly there is not near as much so it is hard to spread evenly.

Another funny fact. I didn't know about this when I wrote all that nice stuff about Tahoe Og hybrids. Sure as shit the Headband X Tahoe Og is the one thats is producing seeds.

So now I get to see if it adds any new or weird smells to the mix. I am beginning to wonder just what it is about the Tahoe I like. I know it is strong by the effects. How strong and what it really does is what gets me thinking.

I am beginning to wonder if it is more just fast acting more than really strong. When you smoke it you notice almost right away. The SK purps X Tahoe hybrids hits you hard and fast. The intensity of the high only lasts about a hour but the high continues longer. As with the original Tahoe when you smoke it you notice right away. Maybe it was the fast acting that I have noticed more than the total strength. Still doesn't matter as I like it and will continue using it. I am just trying to understand the why part. Someday it will help me somehow.

I smoke way to much pot trying to understand it better. Not just for that I do it for all the normal reasons. It makes me feel better! The more I understand what I like the better I can design hybrids the way I want. In time I would like to bred for effects more than anything else. Once flavor is in the mix then I can shoot for fast acting and long lasting someday. Now I know I have a fast acting strain I can work on ways to transfer that to others strains that may need it. Take the Putins Crack I grow for instance. Not a whole lot of noticable effects at first. You smoke for a while then you are stoned. These 2 might work well together. One thing for sure I am not getting a lot of "stoned" from any of the Tahoe Og or its hybrids so far. High is a whole different story.

Another interesting fact. The reversed Tahoe had such good structure I decided to try and do one more projects with it. The Tangilope in the same tent got Tahoe pollen also. Worked for one so it should work for the second. One can always hope. The Tahoe also didn't get a chance to completely mature. I wasn't sure it was putting out any pollen at all. The Critical did get a chance to fully mature. Now I am hoping for seeds from it's hybrids too. The biggest question now is. Did the whole Chocoloco clone I totally pollinated with the reversed Critical project work? This will give me lots of seeds from it if it does.

Plus now I have a whole new project going that I have lots of hope for. I am total pollinating all the clones in the tent. The reversed plant is doing great and flowers are already starting to open. The females are not ready yet so my timing is just a little off. I wanted them to get pollen early and often in the hopes of more seeds.

Congrats on the successful breeding project! You may not have gotten alot of beans but some is better than none in my eyes. Hopefully the Choco x Critical takes that should be a killer hybrid, hell they should all be pretty damn good!!
