Radogast's Hi-Brix Basement Grow - New Location - New Soil - New Experiences

Rabbit Rabbit.

On this May Day, with the traditional beltane fertliity dance of ladies weaving a wrapping for the may pole, I sowed a Hawaiian Skunk and a Tangerine Widow seed to replace the two males.

I thought I had planted my last Tangerine Widow seed, but I ran across another pill bottle of home made Tangerine Dream(-ish) x White Widow seeds.

This is my last Hawaiian Skunk seed from the breeder. If it's not a happy lady, I'll go shopping for another seed. My wife is feeling like a taste of Northern Lights genetics, so I was thinking of a Sensi Star.

Now that I am planning on 6 flower room spots, I feel comfortable trying to run 10 strains at once again :)

Nice starts and GL spring is in the air... Just started afew myself.. I did C-99 X BB fast version.. We'll see if it beat the rains.. GL and Keepem Green

Hey Rad, what are your thoughts about fish emulsion?

I think Doc Bud uses fish fertilizers as a major nutrient - and I use Doc Bud's nutrients.

I wasn't able to sort through the complexities and nuances of sustainable cannabis farming on my own, so I adopted the Doc Bud Hi-Brix solution. I have been assimilated. We are the borg

I believe fish emulsion can be an important ingredient in a balanced diet for cannabis plants, but I don't understand the science and craft behind it. I don't think I ever will. I like the results of what I am doing now better than the results I have had before.

If I ever need to fertilize my outdoor flower garden with more than worm castings, I'll be asking Doc Bud and bobrown14 the same question. I suspect they'll both tell me to get my soil tested before applying fertlizers or amendments - but I'm just guessing.

Flower area update

Today was a day to spray brix foliar, which means I take the girls out for a sit on the stool, trim, photograph, foliar spray, and then put them back in the flower area for their watering.

Three girls in the flower area.

20170503_164455-1.jpg

Bubba's Gift (46 days) - She (some girl not wanted by Bubba I guess) is a petite one. Graduating into flower at 12" tall, now 19" tall.

20170503_160221-2.jpg

Bubba's Gift is full of buds - looks like the vigor of an autoflower.

20170503_160433-2.jpg

Bubba's Gift - Individual buds are plump and conical

20170503_160414-1.jpg

Without the flash you can see mature looking pistails. As of tomorrow, I'll start watching trichomes, pistils and bud size.

20170503_160349-1.jpg

Ace mix (19 days) - She is 39" tall - She went into flower at 17" tall. Buds are set, so today was her first cat drench.

20170503_161019-1-1.jpg

Ace mix - Her top bud was bent against the HPS hood. I think she's done growing. The hood can go 8" higher.

20170503_161035-1.jpg

Ace mix is a free seed - She looks near 100% sativa to me. Probably African genetics since Ace has done a lot with African sativas.

20170503_161047-1.jpg

Delicatessen Lilly (19 days) - She grew from 18" to 36" tall in flower. Her buds are also set, so today was her first cat drench too.

20170503_162212-1.jpg

Delicatessen Lilly - Lilly and Ace have grown like twin sisters. Now Lilly is more open. I removed only 4 leaves for this picture.

20170503_162223-1.jpg

Lilly is drinking a lot of water. Her pot was very light two days after watering almost a gallon into her 7 gallon pot.

20170503_162239-1.jpg

Lilly's buds are larger earlier. I think I'm going to enjoy this smoke.

dam rad lookn great brotha and I'm taking ur advice and letting mine dry out more then do a bigger watering versus more lil waterings hey I had a question tht I askd bb14 about since he uses bas.com kits as well but maybe u wud no also I'm noticing the top of the soil is getting really hard so I'm wondering if tht mite be y sum of my seeds havnt been popping up and now ive reammended this soil once so its my second time using it I did use rice hulls and pumice instead of perlite n idk how long tht stuff lasts do I need to add more rice hulls and pumice every time I reamend my soil?? and if I do need 2 re add it in wud it be better for me to jus use perlite??

Ace mix and lily look really good. Fantastic looking bud sets. I am going to try an ace sativa probably within the next year. I just hope I can train the height outward not upward.
:ciao:

when i re amend my BAS soil I use ewc with the re amend and just enough rice hills to make it lighter or more airy feeling so it still drains well. I am no expert but your pumice should be still good. Rice hills will get eaten up over time and need replacing. Not sure I do it right.

Alright, if my DWs look like slingshots that Lily is a pitchfork!
A Rad twist on American Gothic!

Actually, I really like the way you trained her. Strong support and great spacing of stems. With that stretch she's gonna need it!

I don't currently own a pitchfork, but I love the American Gothic reference. Most of my real life friends would be thinking of Satan before Grant Woods :)
I did say slingshot, didn't I?

The training was minimal:
Topped once above 3rd node.
Removed branches at 1st node.
Stretched 3rd node branches way off to the side.
When going into flower, I defoliated and trimmed the bottom.

The tall, thin branches look a bit weak, but there are a lot of them, so I don't expect massive buds.
I probably should have trimmed some of the uprights, as per Light Addict's Fluxing tutorials

yea I didn't add anything other then bas craft blend to re amend the soil and also sum gro kashi and let it cook for a month but I'm noticing my soil is getting hard on the surface like really hard so I didn't know if it was maybe from the pumice and rice hulls breaking down or sumthn I remember reading sumthn about it breaking down n u wud need to add more eventually but I don't remember how long it lasts and I was also thinkn maybe it wud be beter to jus use perlite what do u guys think??

Looks like some menorah training to me

If I didn't say it before, welcome to :420: and welcome to my grow journal.

If I did say it before, just light another candle on the menorah...

Fun idea, I might do a menorah espalier of a fruit tree in my back yard. Maybe a little plum tree.
Then maybe a pentacle out of black berry vines and a bunny out of strawberry plants. :hmmmm::hmmmm:
I wonder how long it would be until someone noticed :)

Anyone know if you can top a canteloupe vine and cause it to split?

Yup. Get the soil tested! :circle-of-love: I'm happy to do it.

Thx for the welcome Rad. That sounds like a great plan for the backyard until the neighbors start talking lol.

pumice and perlite is volcanic rock or volcanic glass, it doesnt break down like rice hulls do break down and need replaced.
pumice is slightly heavier than perlite. the dust from perlite and pumice is dangerous.

Today I shopped for, cut, and installed 112 linear feet of lattice as facing on my backyard and sideyard fence.

I'm approaching 60 with long hair, a beard, and wear fedoras and a top hat - The neighbors already talk:)

Let them talk as much as they want. If they get to know you they will find out how cool you are.

That's a lot of lattice. It has always been a pain for me to install without cracking, then I mess up and decide to try and paint it after a couple years and that never goes well.
