Radogast 2 - Return of the Clones

Hey there GL - I'm checking out the Down To Earth website - never herd of them b-4 !! I like what I'm seeing sans the N-P-K references but hey they have to make a living and that's what most folks care about or can put their brains around. Wow lots of stuff there ...

Hey Rad reps on the leap of faith - we gardeners take that leap every time we plant a seed. Go with it... most of the time you will get good result, Mother Nature is on your side and that's a HUGE helping hand.

Yeah I always look past the "marketing" of the product and look directly at the ingredients and their source. When it comes to mainstream these guys are the best I've found. I've lived out East in the Midwest and on the West coasts. I'm very happy with the readings and results from using their amendments. Glad to meet another ROLS (Recycling Organic Living Soil) minded person :)

This was an excellent post on the SWICK. I appreciate your thoughtfulness concerning the method. It's not something I want people to try just because I say it works. It needs exploration and thoughtful consideration of the whys to overcome the resistance born of familiarity with wet/dry cycles. Your point about the SFW being an extension of the roots is spot on Rad. You keep amazing me.

May I copy this on the SWICK thread?

Sure. You could also clean up the typos if you want :)

I've been using the phone so long, that when I actually sit down at a keyboard, I forget to capitalize the first part of sentences and expect spellcheck to insert or highlight missing letters. :loopy:

is this the Down to earth Home and Garden out of eugene?

If so, this has to be the WORST website I have ever seen for marketing purposes..... Everything I click links to a blog and no actual products.

They have products, pictures of products,a claim of two brick and mortar stores and a nationwide distribution center ..... but real hard to seee anything.

We gave our computer to the daughter. Since she lives next door I can use it any time I want. I dominate the iPad. We say it belongs to both of us, but everyone knows it belongs to me. So, like you, I'm lost on a keyboard that lacks intuition.

Thanks, and I will indeed proofread. I know it matters to you as much as it does me. :laughtwo::green_heart:

They don't have a very good website granted. Not sure if this is the distribution center you're refering to or not Welcome to Down to Earth Distributors, Inc. | Down to Earth Distributors, Inc.. Most nurseries out here in Washington stock them. Being a state above Oregon surely helps though I didn't struggle finding it out in Virginia either. The website Arbico Organics stocks a lot of their products in case you have trouble finding it in a nursery near you. I get my nematodes from Arbico Organics as well.

Thanks for that website. It looks better than the one I found for product information. I'll have to view it on.my tablet. I has a fixed screen size that defies resizing on a cell phone.

Anyway thanks for the redirect.

My pleasure mate. Always happy to be of any assistance :) :volcano-smiley:

Vegging Room update

I took a few more clones off the old clones (old crones) to replace clones that are not rooting. I'm more surprised that two sets of clones rooted than two sets of clones are failing. The donated twigs are thin like pencil leads, tough and short. I also planted another Northern Lights (fem) to replace the one that died.

Late veg side of the garden room. As you can see by the one foot measure, the plants range in size from 1 to 1 1/2 feet.

I'm a just beginning to try different training techniques for girls that have already switched to alternating branching. My first grow, they were all shaped while branches were in pairs. Because they grew old while tiny and spindly, these plants went alternate while still working on their second living nodes.

Here, Giselle, a breeder mystery seed, has had her leader crushed and kinked off to the side.

Lailani, Hawaiian Skunk, had 6 inches of lush top removed. She has now formed 4-5 strong branches.

The wind chimes and bells went outside yesterday. It's quieter now.

Good one Rad. :laughtwo::green_heart:

Morning my mate Radogast! A little tip. With your late veg plants. Why not just take the girls heads off instead of super cropping them? You'll have more tops and not have to worry so much about the height issue because it will create a more even canopy. I'm all for the supercropping/lst type training techniques and they work like a dream, though I apply the technique after the plant has a bit more height. Hope you're having a great day bud!

Cheers

Radogast, I love the Northern Lights homage to Northern Exposure. Marilyn Whirlwind was quite the character. Classic, thanks for the grin...I needed it today.

My wife and I talked that one out for 15 minutes - finding just the right name. She came up with the Northern Lights/Northern Exposure connection :)

This only my second grow (one of the unintentionally longest grows in history) and I forget why I went for multiple branches last time, but I know I had 7-10 major branches per plant at 15" in hieght when I went into flower. Yield was about 1/4 oz (7gram) per branch..... I forget a lot of things.... With alernating branches, does topping create more branches? Do more major branches equal more yield than a single magnificent cola?

what is all that white stuff ?

I don't know.

If you are talking about in the tray under the fabric pots (and in the soil,) that is perlite, a water wicking artificial shaped rock made by machines blowing air into volcanic rock slurry. I bought 16 more cubic feet today. I've been using it for potted plants on the porch too!

If you are talking about the massive amounts of white that were outside my house for 4 MONTHS STRAIGHT this winter, that was FRIGGIN' SNOW. That trauma is too fresh to talk about. It really is too soon!

If you are talking about my foot, you fail to appreciate my New England farmer tan. :)

Oh God, I'm so glad I was still awake for that Rad. :laughtwo:
