Radogast 2 - Return of the Clones

Finally, I made it to the last post. It has been a wild ride Rad and I am very happy that all has turned a pleasing shade of green. I have a question about perlite. Perlite is a volcanic glass is their a reason you would prefer pumice in your soil mix? Is it because it likes to migrate? I am along for the ride happy gardening.

Pumice is a naturally occurring stone with cool little cavities that I used to LOVE walking on and juggling as a kid. Perlite is manufactured, plastic looking smooth marbles that seem like they should be used as packing peanuts. So it's aesthetic and childhood memories.

But...

Perlite should break down into healthy rock dust and doesn't seem to migrate in moist soil.

S-Sue, I will almost always choose one container over 5-10

Point taken Rad.

I was bending the leader on Lailani to encourage lower growth. Snap.

I scraped and split the stem, sprinkled mycorrhizae, dipped in clonex, and planted in a 6" pot.

This worked for me once with a sad, lanky leader.
It should work better with a green, vigorous leader.
(The color it's actually a deep, pine needle green.)

Oh no! That would be like my worst fear. I hope the clone takes off for you.

Fret not. A deer or rabbit does more damage in nature.

I snapped off the top 1/3 of the plant. This set her growth back about a week. It also spurred her growth to a lower vase shape that will grow multiple colas. So it's a win even if the clone doesn't take. :)

opsie :)

s**t happens tho, looks great nevertheless.

you're right about the raw and cruel power of mother nature, breaking a stem is nothing compared to what trees go through in the wild :smoke2:

That is my goal Rad, thanks for the warm welcome.

Two of the clone sets were ready with roots: one Caramelicious, one White Widow

Trimmed worst of the yellow leaves and dropped in a pot (1/3 Spagnum, 1/3 Compost, 1/3+ Perlite)

I had planned to separate into 2 pots (one per rockwool cube) but...
running low on space

Kelp meal and water-in mycorrhizae arrived in the mail.
Good thing, because I forgot to dust roots with mycorrhizae powder. Again!

Whew! I thought it was just me.

Applause on the wise decision to follow your heart. :bravo:
