Don't care for LST huh..

I wouldn't say that, just don't have the room to do it or the right things to tie them down with. And thanks Miss Bud, I try my best and work with what I got. Sorry I didn't label pics. First one is clone 2, and bottom pic is lemon skunk and big bang. Gonna give some molasses when it cools down.

Hey Queenie,

Crop is looking healthy. The plant on the left in the third picture (lemon skunk?) has a mild nitrogen deficiency. You might want to give her a shot of nutes.

Remember you had a plant with a calcium deficiency? Was it one of these? If so, which one?

Maybe you can sneak out in the dead of night and tap into a neighbor's Internet connection so that you can post more often.

P. S. I did not advocate doing anything illegal.

Re: Queen's Sophmore Grow F - Lemon Skunk - Big Bang - Along With Some Bag Seed Sprou

Ggrant,

I wish I could piggyback someone's internet. But I can't so its the phone for now. To answer your questions...yes that is lemon skunk in bottom pic on left. I will give nutes when light comes on. The one with calcium def was the be plant in pic 2 on the right. And some that I moved into flowering. But now none have the brown spots but Cannavanna. So if any advice on her please put in my other journal. Other than purpling stems they seem to be doing fine. Still giving calmag with vinegar.

Have you tried NetZero Internet Service? I used them when I lived in California.

You get unlimited phone access for $9.95. They also have a free service that is limited to 10 hours a month. I guess the idea is to get you hooked, hoping you'll sign up for their pay-for-service. You do need a land line. They have lots of numbers so you don't have to call long distance.

What? I thought you had some plant wisdom to lay on me. No I don't think there is netzero in these parts. I remember them from back in the day. Thought they were kinda crappy. It sucks I cant get verizon internet in my area.

Me so sorry, QTL. Please accept my humble apologies. I'm off to get my hair shirt and pour ashes on myself. Luckily, my scourge is at the dry cleaners or I'd have to use that, too.

LOL...you are forgiven this time. Next time its off with your head!

Nothing to report with the plants. Everything is as it should be. Gave them some calmag yesterday. Will be giving molasses tomorrow. I do have a question about the clones. When should they go into flower and for how long? Isn't flowering time shorter? I think my next step is gonna be clloning after I get a few strains and also after the move from this place. Clone 1 is already 20 inches tall.

You can actually put a clone into flower right after it roots. Since it's not grow from seed, it's fully mature. I was surprised when I first heard this, too.

So, the answer is: Anytime you feel like. So all you have to decide is how big you want them to get after you put them into flower. They'll grow about 30% bigger. Or conversely if have a fixed height you're aiming for, put them into flower when they are 75% of the desired height. For example, if you're aiming for 3 feet tall, you would want the clone to be

75% X 36" = 27" = 2 feet 3 inches tall

A clone is identical to its mother. It has the same DNA. If it were at a crime scene, the District Attorney would not know which plant to prosecute, the clone or its mother.

So a clone's flowering time is exactly the same as its mother's or basically the same time as a plant of the same strain grown from seed.

Re: Queen's Sophmore Grow F - Lemon Skunk - Big Bang - Along With Some Bag Seed Sprou

Thanks again Grant. Well clone 1 Mother is Cannavanna who is now 3 feet tall. But she hermied on me though I cloned before she hermied. Hopefully it will not be a hermie too. Clone 2 is about 16 inches but miss budd is not that tall just under 3 feet. Was thinking of letting clone 1 get to over 2 feet before putting in flower.

Thanks again Grant. Well clone 1 Mother is Cannavanna who is now 3 feet tall. But she hermied on me though I cloned before she hermied. Hopefully it will not be a hermie too.

When I cloned my gals they were in flower and I wondered if the stress would cause the clone to become a hermie.

Then I realized, the clone has the same DNA as the mom. It will have the same genetic tendency. Even if you took a clone from a hermie, it will turn out to be female. The mother turned hermie due to stress (sometimes there's a genetic tendency toward hermaphroditism, but seed manufacturers select to avoid this). If the clone is not stressed, it will remain female.

You could put Cannavanna in isolation and let her flower. She will pollinate herself and all her seeds be fertilie and be feminized, as well. Seeds grown this way have a higher tendency towards hermaphroditism, so commercial growers don't use it.

Re: Queen's Sophmore Grow F - Lemon Skunk - Big Bang - Along With Some Bag Seed Sprou

Say Queenie,

I don't think my last post was entirely accurate.

Although a clone is identical to its mother and is therefore a female by default, if the mother has been stressed and turned hermie, and a clone is taken afterwards, the clone could turn out to be a hermie, too.

If the cutting has any of the male characteristics, e.g., pollen sacs, then the clone is already a hermie. If the cutting has no male characteristics, it could stay female or turn into a hermie.

A hermie is caused either by stress (light entering a flowering room during the dark period) or by genetics. Some strains produce a certain amount of hermies, self-pollinated plants have more hermies.

In order for a female to turn male, some plant hormone has to be activated. When this happens, a female plant with female DNA will be induced to produce pollen sacs in an attempt to reproduce (the plant's sole function really.)

If this hormone is in the cutting used to make a clone, the clone could turn out to be a hermie, like its mother. I'm no botanist, so this is just speculation, but it makes sense. Anybody out there know for certain if this is right?

Anyway, you said you took the clones before CannaVanna turned hermie, so hopefully they will be female. If the sex-change hormone was already there, the clones could turn hermie. It's also possible that CannaVanna is genetically disposed toward hermaphroditism, in which case her clones would also have that tendency.

Just keep an eye on the clones and make sure they don't turn hermie, too. You should make sure that they don't get stressed, i.e., lots of light, regular exercise. Make sure they brush between meals, too.
