Pyramid Purple & DNA Chocolope Under CFL - 2nd Grow

Not too looking too bad, but there are a few problems.

First get that PH meter dialed in. Test it with distilled white vinegar, no substitutes, and you should get a reading of 2.4. I don't know of any higher PH items that are common for a high end test though :/.

Do you PH nutes and water?

At first glance, Chocolope appears to be showing signs of over/under watering, but it could also be PH stress IMO.

If she is dry every other day, your roots seem healthy .. unhealthy roots do not take up as much water.

I see KJC is on it .. listen to him :p
Agree with both of J's statements here Star. I'll be following along to see if I can learn a thing or two from these issues you're trying to recover from. John is one of the top problem solvers here but remember; Take everyone's advice into consideration.

Thanxx Buck, Gray, Cronic, & John. I can always count on you guys.

I'll first start by saying a massive and genuine thank you to each and everyone who has taken the time to drop in and lend some advice and to ask their grow buddies to do the same. It's fuckin sweet to be able to ask for help and have so many people ready and willing. I've seen others write the same thing but I have NEVER been a part of a website or forum site with Mods and Members as rad as 420Mag. I hope to one day be able to return the favour. :thumb::thanks::BH:

I would flush your Chocolope grow medium with at least twice the volume of pH adjusted water as the pot size. Will do tomorrow.Even if it's still damp? What are your temperature and humidity? Both are disgusting and have been throughout her poor life. :( RH= 20- 35% during lights on, goes well up to the 40s and 50s during lights off. Temps are just as bad(I set up my portable A/C yesterday arvo so a few degrees C cooler in the cupboard.), around 36-42 degrees..... CELSIUS! :( What are you using as a grow medium? Soil in both with a 2" perlite layer on top. What nutrients are you using and how many milliliters per gallon? At this stage in her life(not the last two waters, they have been just PH'd water) I have had on full dose of this for flower..

What are you adjusting your nutrients pH to?My nutes don't seem to alter the water's PH. Is that what you mean bro? Any current insects? I noticed the other day that there are still some pesky gnats under the perlite, I thought between the sprays, drenches and fan(kills the fuck of em), they were all gone but no. This could definitely support the idea of root damage as Greytail and PlanetJ mentioned the possibility of.. That's the only pest or bug I've seen recently.

The Chocky's pot gets light enough that it doesn't even feel like its got any water in. The problem may have something to do with the water draining too quickly. I usually water with 750mL in 2 serves. So half and then 5 mins later, the other half. I would guess without ever measuring or thinking too much about it that about 200mL would drain out and then she's ready to go back in her home in about 15mins from the first water.

As far as PH, as I've been chatting to Maestro Antics about, my PH meter is a little bit fuckin cheeky. Either that or my soil PH seems to fluctuate pretty much daily which I tend to doubt. It occasionally hits bang on the 6.5 I water with but usually sits a bit high. Antics, I'm going to order the meter you showed me, can it however be poked straight into the soil to test medium PH or do I need to make some solution of sorts like I've heard about?

This whole problem started with curling leaves that you can see on both plants. With Chocks it's just developed worse. May also be because I thought it was nute damage so backed right off during a lot of her veg - flower transition. Not sure if that would upset her heaps? Purps has also barely eaten the last month or so..

I really hope to have a firm plan in mind for tomorrow. I haven't seen her progress in 10 hours and it will still be another 9 so I want to know what I'm going to do as soon as lights go on.
I also need to rip Purps. Unless I should grow the seed out(if it's a seed).KJC, I've seen you writing about plant, and autoflower breeding in particular.. If it is a seed, what seed will it be? Random? Auto?

Anything I've missed, please hit me up. Any advice earns you a billy when you're in town.. ;) No, seriously. Thanks so much, gang!

You still haven't mentioned what type if medium you're in other than what you stated in your opening post.

Soil or Hydro? Soil.

If soil... what is in your mix? Cheapish, slow-release ferted mix from local hardware store.

Does it have the ingredients on the back? What's the name of it? If you can take pics of all the writing on the bag it probably would help the guys out helping you.

That's because I don't know. :/ It doesn't have any of the components written anywhere. When I wrote my journal I even checked their website(as the woman who sold it to me said was the key) and there's nothing.. It's just called Good Earth Premium Potting Mix and was recommended by Old Mate at me local hydro shop. It's most visible here..

This is actually Choco as well. Hehe.

Thanks dude.

most people don't like to use soil with slow release fertilizer in them
maybe someone can fill in the blank as to why I cant think well now headache all day so far
lol

I would guess so we are more in control on what goes in there. Now you mention it, there's probably nitrogen or something already in the soil tipping the levels up.. Hmm. Good point Chron. Good. point.

I'm just preparing my washing buckets. It's cut time. :/ This is so hard. I keep putting it off.. :P

yea trimmings a pain back was sore at the end of the night when I chopped the ak-49

edit I barely feel the neck headache now since I took a nap
ended up taking a nap cause seemed like 420 was down for a couple hrs couldn't get the page to load
neck headache from pinch nerve in the neck causes different shit at different times

Yeah I know, I couldn't confirm I had the bud washing technique correct so that was a good excuse to buy my girl a few more hours of life..
Glad your neck is getting better. I trust you have some Chronic Hemp to Hog to soothe the pain? ;)

Alright. It's time.. Photos will come.

Slow release fertilizers release inconsistent amount of nutrients and are not suitable for growing cannabis. The type of fertilizer you are using has too high amount of nitrogen for flowering cannabis. High nitrogen levels can cause a downward leaf claw. High nitrogen in flower retards bud formation and greatly reduces harvests.

Here is the Nutes - What To Use & How To Use Them - Tutorial

I use General Hydroponics Flora series 3 part nutrients that can be mixed for all stages of vegetative growth and flowering. General Hydroponics Flora series can be used with hydroponic, soil and soiless mediums.

I would use General Hydroponics MaxiGro with 10-5-14 N-P-K or similar for vegetative growth and General Hydroponics MaxiBloom with 5-15-14 N-P-K or similar for flowering.

If you are looking to increase trichome production I use 3 products that have worked very well for me in flowering.

I use Snow Storm Ultra as a foliar spray at 1.25 milliliters per liter in flower every 7-10 days and discontinue use 1 week before harvest.

I will only spray Snow Storm Ultra just before the lights go off for the darkness phase of flowering.

I also use General Hydroponics Liquid KoolBloom and KoolBloom Dry in flower.

I use General Hydroponics Liquid KoolBloom at 2.5 milliliters per gallon from the start of flower until 3 weeks prior to harvest then use General Hydroponics KoolBloom Dry for 2 weeks at 1/4 teaspoon or 1.25 milliliters per gallon and discontinue use to begin a harvest flush from 7-10 days.

You can see these products in use and the results in my KingJohnC's Lush Lighting LED Dominator 2x Soil Indoor Grow Journal and Review.

Unless the seed is viable and you grow it to flower is the only way to determine its parentage and source of the pollen that resulted in the forming seed.

I don't need seeds that bad. Hehe.

Dry weight guesses? :) Her nugs are nice and dense..

-EDIT: Chocky still looks like s#*t.

You think? I was hoping a little more but you may be right, I was hoping 16ish. Have to wait and see I spose. I've decided a large part of my problem is heat. I need to address it before I drop any more beans. I think I may move to LED. I love the hard nugs CFLs have given me but they're just too hot. Will buds get softer or harder as they dry? Also not much scent at this stage.

The moisture content will reduce from the buds as they dry, you want a 62% cured humidity. The scent will also change during the curing phase.

Congrats Jesstar

The meter I bought is a water/nute solution measuring tester only. At first, I wasn't happy about that, but it puts me more in tune with me grow by requiring me to test the PH of what I put into the coco, and I test the runoff that comes out.

It's not too difficult to do, and I'd rather do that, than have to wipe growing medium off the probes constantly. Not to mention when you directly test your medium, it's only a snapshot in one small area, testing the runoff, I believe is a more accurate picture of what's going on throughout the whole growing container.

And what's up with that cocobloom suggesting 6.0-6.5 PH? I've always read the range is 5.5-6.1, with 5.8 being ideal. Or is the 5.8 for Cannabis specifically, and the instructions on the bottle are general plant growing instructions?

From what I know it's 5.8 for hydro and 6.5 for soil, A.
This might be a daft question but how do you actually catch the run off? Prop the pot on something and try get under it?
Also, check this. My pH meter reads 4.3 in vinegar, pretty close, but then shows 6 or so in water I know and tested to be around 8 so..... Dunno. Haha.
