PW's Perpetual Playhouse

Virtually no heat under the boards, most of the heat comes off the driver. It’s possible to mount the driver outside your tent for summer use. .

That was what I was looking at doing if I go that route. As it stands now all my controls are outside the tent with only power going in for fans and lights. With my HID stuff I remote mount the ballasts away from what I lighting up. Even the timer is outside. It's easier to check and adjust things. Having all the drivers mounted to a board outside the tent where they can be messed with would also be a huge plus. It's also less weight on the hangars.

The investment is substantial but they should last.

I have to fight the urge to improve things, I’m better off leaving them alone. .

I am the same way and your advice to me has always stated to let them do their own thing as much as you can. I can see when I mess with them they tend not to appreciate much when they are in flower. In veg you can beat the crap out of them ( as Grouchy does ).

Yes and no. Yes, the investment will pay off in a great crop for many years. No, because the new light tech in 2 or 3 years will be quicker, neater, better & you will want to upgrade.

It never ends.

The QB's seem to be more spread out and you control the power. The COBs to me anyway seem more point light source based which would have some advantage in certain situations. I am not buying anything until September after this next small batch as i will shutdown for the summer. By then everything will change and i will be looking at the next shinny thing.

Would it be worth making a heatsink to mount them like this penny? Having them tilted 8 degrees or so to each corner. Less intensity in the center that way but I Don't know if the angle would make that big of a difference in coverage though. I'd probably be making a custom heat sink for nothing.
I can run these in a straight sheet of aluminum can't I? Like 1/8" thick?

I don't feel it will be efficient. My buddy has a bunch of diamond plate aluminum I think I'm just going to cut a flat stock 13 x 44 for them

Less more often is better. Slow and steady wins the race. Ph is more important. Just browned tips is the limit point indicator from you nutes, assuming ph is correct. If the light is too strong it will dry up the leaves or bleach them. Tho im not a LED champion. But id say the same rules apply.

That's true but take cobs, they're still relatively new but you here more about the QB's and Fusions. Cobs are still fantastic lights.
very true. may be a budget entry to high performance LED in the near future.
guess it will depend on the direction of the various players .
Im no seasoned expert but I consider myself at least knowledgeable enough to add, at first I liked idea of COBs better, I'm a computer nut and it seemed a logical progression but after research you cannot beat the spectrum and spread of a QB or ChilLed especially in a tent IMHO.
the HLG 550 for example is incredible. pricey sure and hopefully will help lower the cost of CXB3590s or equivalent.
Heck, Cree and Vero are likely even building even better COBs who knows, but somewhere in the shakeout soon folks should be able to enter the LED game seriously without as much cash upfront.

Hey guys I've been watching those hlg panels and decided to jump in. Ordered 2 HLG 65 models. I wanted to order the 550 but just simply cannot justify it at the moment. I'll be using these as supplemental lighting on each side of my 1k hps. Cheers all I'm giddy lol.

Morning Penny :-)
Holly cow, miss a day or two round here and you gotta catch up like 10 freaking pages

Hope all is well in your world brother, we got some snow this last week....then it started snowing......and decided it should snow just a lil bit more......oh yea, and freezing rain in between:rofl:

Lights lights and more lights lmao, now I need our sparky to run me some dedicated 20 amps to the veg an flower rooms.......but it’s a great problem to have :-)

How’s the Malawi doing brother? Stop stretching yet? Ours are looking like they are done with the stretch........I think lol, the one we didn’t top has much fatter/bigger Buds than the one we did top, the topped one is like 4 foot tall and 4 foot wide and the untopped one is like 6 foot tall and 3 foot wide. Hung the G8 over the topped one, she wasn’t in the greatest spot for light and needed more. Wanted to put the 550 over her but tripped the breaker so the G8 was next in line, so I need to get those new 20 amp runs in pretty quick.......sparky dependent. Hope soon anyways lol.

Blessed Buds our friend and be well :passitleft:
