Prof's Lab: Diary Of A Bedroom Farmer

I have a new fan turning up tomorrow so I shall see if it will fit down there. It is pretty tight. We can't get reasonably priced BTI products in the uk. I will probably get a cheap bottle of peroxide for the Gorilla Glue but the Wedding Cakes is so close to finishing I don't think it will matter much. There is probably less than a week left for that one.

Cheers TC. I started on your journal last night and will have another go later today. Gotta sort out the kiddies first.

Thanks Mr S! I have some more good clone news for you later today. All I will say is that you need some Marmite.
Ha! I put my shoes on the wrong feet.
:passitleft:

My tents are also very tight and I am having the same problem with fans. Same fan design for ages. Maybe someone should come up with a fan that is customised for grow tents. Or maybe even just for fungus gnats. I would definately buy these. I have tried fans of all sizes but none of them can ever function thoroughly inside a grow tent, especially in flowering where we need the airflow most.

Marmite plays very well with onions! But it's not just for savory things; Marmite also works in desserts. It goes particularly well with chocolate and I've added it to brownie batter and peanut butter-chocolate chunk cookies.

Oh good, cookie day!

I've seen a lot of micro USB fans which are designed for camping tents and push chairs. I think something like that might be quite good for putting under the canopy. I have no idea how powerful they are but I imagine that they would be pretty weak. They are 4" fans so are quite small and should be able to fit. I still wouldn't be able to get one blowing across the medium in my current grow as they are growing so low.

............No
:woohoo: for the successful clone and female!

Regarding your Wedding Cake which is due to finish, maybe the bugs will be provoking more resin production in response to the attack. I hear that's a thing?
Low stress can apparently cause plants to produce more trichomes as a means of defence. Problem is that the leaves that are dying are the crystal drenched sugar leaves so I'm loosing hash making material. I can see the glands drying up on the leaves as they die

Clone News.

So today I thought I had best have a look at the Tashkurghan cutting in the jar as the previous cutting took 8 days to root. It has roots. It is day 10 for this one which is really good, especially for me. I did check at 8 days and as there was nothing I thought that maybe I was lucky with the first. Seems not as 2 days later and we have roots. I will leave it for today and perhaps pot it up tomorrow. Here is the Tashkurghan cutting....

The pics aren't great but I think you can see the roots....

So, that means we have to stick something else in the Marmite jar mini cloner and see if we can do it again. I was thinking that I could do with another Malana Cream as not all are confirmed as female yet. Or maybe I could try and put more than one cutting into the jar to see if it works. Provided they are not touching I don't see why not. I didn't even take one for the grow gods. Watch my grow turn to ashes.

Congrats on the female and the successful clone! Lol, one last thing, what is marmite?
Why thank you HH. Marmite is either the work of the devil or sent from heaven. They even advertise it as a "love-hate thing". It is a yeast extract spread that is consumed on toast or used in cooking. It is as British as tea drinking lol

Hey Prof I hope your well buddy! Just poking my head in to say hey! Nice work with your clone in the jar roots after 8 days is pretty impressive looks like you have the rooting in water nicely dialed in!

I tried marmite in school once when I was a kid and well it was :cough: maybe I should try it again with my adult taste buds lol.

Hey N! Good to hear from you again.

The cloning in the (dark) glass jar has been working well so far. I have successfully managed to root 2 cuttings from healthy veg plants and nearly succeeded with a cutting from a fully flowering plant which took 70+ days to do. The problem was that I removed all of the flowers and left nowhere for new growth to emerge. It might have started growing given enough time but in my experience with the water cloning so far is that roots will begin to rot after sitting in the still water for an extended amount of time. The last two worked really well though so I have another lined up. Well it is 2 actually....

They are not your typical cuttings either and I have left 2 growth tips on them to see how long these take, if they will at all. These are Malana Cream's....

Cheers N. Stay safe buddy.

Hey 420! Yesterday we had some sunshine so I thought I would get outside and give the crumbled lime a watering with the homemade ferts. I was checking her over and noticed that she has been damaged. I guess it was the recent storm as there doesnt seem to be cat damage and the plant is out of the way of people....

She doesnt seem bothered by it which is good. I think I can see some flowers just beginning to form now.
The plant looks very healthy so I must be doing something right. The dolomite lime looks to have made a difference as the last plant we did outdoors didn't feel anywhere near as strong or healthy as this one does and the only difference is the lime. The homemade fert barrel has had a lot of ingredients added since the last time so maybe that has something to do with it also. She does look good though....

Barrel time! So as I just said we have had many new things thrown in here in recent weeks. Yesterday I poured in about 10ltrs of fatty cooking water from boiling gammon joints. I have also been adding bread which I avoided before. I was gifted a bag of epsom salts which I very nearly threw in but decided against it as it felt like cheating. Here is the what it looks like now....
DSC03891.JPG

That's annoying. I will have to get my hands dirty soon but not today....
DSC03892.JPG

Who would wanna live in here?....
DSC03893.JPG

So, results time! We have been eating so many tomatoes. I honestly didn't expect this to work as well as it has....
DSC03896.JPG
DSC03899.JPG

These ones probably won't make it as they are a large tomato and are being battered by the weather....
DSC03900.JPG

The rest are all fast and small growing tomatoes and I have only lost maybe 10-20 to blight. We are eating them almost daily....

I am feeding everything that is outdoors with this stuff and most things are doing very well. Here are some leeks I put out last month. They exploded after being put in the ground and feed with the slop....
DSC03903.JPG

I think that it will work for the cannabis this time provided the season doesnt end before the plant finishes up. I will have to bring it indoors if that happens and that is going to stink lol.

I have been doing so much composting this year that I have run out of space to do it so I have been using the 10 gallon plastic pots....
DSC03904.JPG

This is just disgusting but it is also very quick. I am layering with kitchen waste followed by shredded cardboard boxes. This is what I will be mixing with my potting mix for use indoors in the near future. Turn away now if you are squeamish....
DSC03905.JPG

There are thousands of maggots making quick work of the waste. This smells even worse than the barrel lol.

Back shortly with some nicer updates.

Happy growing everyone.

Very disgusting interesting Professor! It looks like it's working wonders. :bravo:
Lol. It is certainly not pretty but that's nature for you. After I have finished with the Crumbled Lime I've decided to empty the barrel and start over. That is something I'm really not looking forward to lol. I might try and keep a record of what goes in there next time.

Learn as you go. Now you know what to expect you can adjust or tweak accordingly. Documentation is probably wise so you can go back and see what you should have or should not have done.

Exactly. I would like to learn what kind of nitrogen fixing plants are local to me so I can add those to the mix. I think crushing egg shells and bones into more of a powder would also benefit the mix. If it wasn't for the DL then I would look into how to incorporate magnesium as well.

Flowering day 21.

Today is trim day for these babies. I toyed with the idea of not bothering but after checking the plants over I decided that it is most definitely for the best. It is a bit sweaty in there and many of the plants have water collecting on touching leaves. So, time to go and clean the snips and get ready stuck in. Here are the pics of the plants before the trim....

You can pickle some of these unripe tomatoes. Tastes great. Especially when pickled with some ginger.

This may help.
