***Tuesday Update***
Hi everyone! I hope everyone's weekends were beautiful and full of joy! Mine sure was, my little man started riding his bike without training wheels. :0 what an accomplishment. I know I wasn't quite ready for the big step but he sure was. I thought he should have full hockey gear on but, he didn't skip a beat once he was on it. Took him about 10 minutes to figure out the balance and away he went. Took a bit to hold back a few tears. He's such a great kid, I'm so fortunate. And now he's back at daycare.
I spent a lot of times yesterday doing some work in the garden. Of course I found a new spot for the girls to reside. They quickly grew out of the little corner I had them in.
I decided it was time for some topping and F.I.Ming. 2 of the girls were ready. They had approached there 4th node and I didn't want to hold back because I need to get this show on the road. So, let's start this update with a short little how-to on topping and F.I.Ming.
TOPPING
I perform this technique often and I do so to encourage growth to occur in more than one area. If a plant isn't topped, it will grow a single cola (top bud) and multiple lowers buds. Once you cut the top of the plant off the next two lowest branches will grow upward in place of the single top. Every time you top your plant it produces two new "tops". This technique allows a grower to maximize yield by maximizing the area for buds to grow. I top my plant on average 3 to 5 times. But you could top more.
The process of topping is simple. But, if done incorrectly or unsanitary, could lead to your plant suffering from health problems further down the line. So, step one is to clean your tools. I use isopropyl to clean and rinse.
Now, I like to top my healthier looking plants. This helps to ensure they have the best possibility to recover from the stress of being chopped in half. I wait until I have 4 nodes (or seperations between branches) and then chop off the top of the plant.
So, you're trying to cut as low as possible but leaving the two side sprouts alone.
Once you're done making the snip, whip away your tears and know that big things are in store!
Now that was topping but there's another technique known as F.I.Ming which is similar to topping but you don't quite take off the whole top.
FUCK I MISSED (AKA F.I.M)
It took me a long time to understand what the acrynym for F.I.M meant. But now I get it. And I hope that my little update here can help at least one person understand it to!
Now I'm not as familiar with F.I.M as I am with Topping. In fact, I have never performed this technique before. But, here we go.
Unlike topping you don't take the entire top off the plant. You're taking some of it off. Say cut halfway down
Now, that's it! If you want to double, triple or even quadruple your yield, this is the way to go. On my very first topped plant, I topped her once and got almost 7 ounces. Notice when the provider of your seeds says "yield 500-800 grams" well that's under perfectly trained conditions. Topping and F.I.M is a great place to start.
Now for the rest of the girls.
VEG ROOM
The other girls are looking great. I haven't decided if I'm going to send one to flower with no training or just purchase a couple auto seeds to hold me over and train them all. So many choices. Welcome to the big leagues eh?
I tried to show all the names of the girls so I don't have to label them in my journal. It makes for a seamless job if I don't have to create headings for each plant. In due time I will have no choice as the plants get bigger the tags will be hidden.
Still a bit on the rebound Top Dawg didn't respond very well to the initial dose of nutrients. But she will recover with a few straight waterings
Starting her first round of training she has been topped and is getting the bend. I will try and force her over to one side so I can start manipulating each branch
This girl has also had a tough start to the nutrients. She was a bit smaller then the rest when I started but got the same dose and immediately started to show signs of excessive Nutes. But she has recovered nicely.
Here is Orka. She is one of my finer girls. Very short and stout. Lush and vibrant. I like her stubby little leaves.
I missed taking a photo of 8ball Kush aside from her getting F.I.M. So I will repeat that photo and update the journal later on.
The REVEG isn't showing any signs yet. But her companions there are Jackelope in the front and 1 Jabb's Stash in the back.
Well that's all of them! Wow what a bundle, eh? Things are really starting to take off now and it's getting exciting. I can't thank you guys enough for joining me and keep me company.
I love each of you!
