Phototron 2 Space Capsule: My Magical Grow Journey

Middle is already starting to fill in, seems to be growing healthy again (finally) lol. Might have to defoliate again soon!

Agreed!! And what a terrible memory... LMAO

Who could forget such a tragedy. I just think those preflowers require lots of energy. I think that's why they grow right next to the energy producing fan leaves. Sorry if I came across as rude, I don't defoliate my plants much so I was just curious.

I know that you don't know the strain, but she's a really vigorous grower that's for sure. By comparison, and if you remember mine are about the same age ..... This is the top of mine. You're doing Wicked for a first Gro! I'm 8 days from flip.

No worries Doob! You didn't come off rude at all! :)

I'm beginning to think I defoliate alittle too much lol. I think you may be right though, you would think by now I would have some pretty definitive preflowers!

Yeah it's definitely came back everytime it's been knocked down that's for sure lol.

I forgot you had a batch around the same age, my brain isn't wanting to do anything tonight besides sleep lol so I forget how many days I have left until flip.

Thank you for that, I'm still learning everyday Lol.

I don't I think you can take too much off these girls, within reason anyway. Within one day of defoliation, you know she's going to feel right back in again....... Mind certainly do.

You're right, definitely looks ball-like......that wud fkn suck! You've done a great job on the training!

Sure looks like it to me .
Wow I haven't caught up here for a little while - a lot has happened!

Unfortunately I have to agree with you that it may be turning out to be a fella. Give it a bit longer maybe. But apart from that suspicious looking tiny ball (it looks one) the wide open structure of the node tells me it's likely also.

I'm fairly raw to this as well but I was told by another grower, when my plants were still young, that an indicator of future sex is whether the little stipules were open or crossed over. This theory has played out in my plants - only one had open stipules and I pulled it yesterday, covered in little balls! I'm going to try to post a pic of what I'm talking about - let's see if I can manage webview and access my gallery on my phone..

Cool - this one, I hope, shows the crossover thing I'm talking about

Professor_2-8weeks-node.jpg

On the plant that went male, there was a point I noticed that these little stipules were wide open at each node, either pointing straight upwards or outwards, and I started wondering about it being male then. I know there are all sorts of theories and facts about how to tell sex, but this one seems sound to me so far. I've seen it play out on other plants in other grows too. Trying to find a pic of the open stipules (I'm fairly sure I have that 'taxonomical' term right and that 'stipule' is the part I'm trying to describe).

Edit: Ok - it's a dodgy screen shot (sorry) but for illustrative purposes, it shows the wide open stipules I'm talking about... (the arrow is pointing to the 'ball')

I'm guessing there are 'open' stipules elsewhere on your plant.

But hey - last night at dinner we threw in a very small amount of leaf from the male I pulled yesterday. Right at the end so it hardly cooked at all. Both of us felt a lovely relaxed and smiling state come over us while we sat and watched the tennis (not stoned, just pleasant and content) and had the best sleep in ages. Raw Cannabis is really good for you. Juice it, add it to salads, dry it and sprinkle on food. Acid cannabinoids have powerful healing properties. I am unable to go into the details, but if you ask AKGramma or SweetSue they'll tell you more. Upshot is, if it's male and you don't want pollen, the plant is not waste - it's still medicine, just different.

.

So I confess I noticed this when you posted these pics back on nye - and I didn't say anything then cause I didn't want to 'harsh your buzz' over something that was, for all I knew, just a theory. But it seems there's more evidence here for the theory being sound.

Unless of course it's wrong and that little 'ball' is not a ball at all. Mine looked like that about a week ago tho and yesterday there were little balls everywhere. I think you'll just have to eat it! .

The stipules are a red herring. The only way to tell sex is from the sex organs. Either you have balls on stalks or pistils coming out of calyx's. The name of this game is patients. It took nearly a month on my first grow for the sex organs to fully express themselves and at that point it was unmistakable and I had plenty of time to pull the males before they fully developed.

Usually 30 days from breaking the seed will usually be sufficient to show the sex. I have heard a few strains sometimes can take a touch longer, but thats not very common.

I had some question about your girl and sexing her. I too have plants that I'm about to sex...

1.jpg

I read in earnest yesterday as Amy explained about how to presex.. ...so I checked my plants too. I found that the Less mature the stipules are, the more likely they seemed to be crossed. For instance I had them crossed on 1 of my plants at the new growth, but 3 cms away, they were uncrossed. Therefore, as Pennywise explained to me, 100% sexing is only possible once flip has occurred. This is why it's necessary in so many members journals to have to reveg their cuttings, once they discover if they've got a girl. .

Still got my fingers crossed.....Sorry Amy, I had to confirm cuz if your theory is true, both of mine are boys and that would suck!!!

No apologies necessary... I hope it's wrong as a theory and that miss's plant being a male is coincidental to that appearance of the stipules. It's not exactly my theory, just something someone said, and so far it seems like I've seen it play out. But I have some young ones at the moment too and one of them definitely has this lower down and I don't want it to be true either! Actually the one that has this going on is feminised, so let's hope that means the theory is wrong! SweetSue mentioned to me (when I flagged the notion in my journal a few weeks back) that it was more to do with the position of where the branching shoot comes out of the node, so that's what you look for - so if it's very centred, it's female, and off to the side it's male (making room ;) ). Dunno if that's true either. Really, I'm always a bit tense about it until I see pistils (but that's way longer than 30 days in).

Van, what is it you look for at 30 days in?

I am sure that 100% is only achievable in actual flower, but I am confident enough in pre-sexing them to put my confidence interval around 95% I can live with 95% I can post pictures of pre flowers that show what to look for if you would like....but you need a scope or loupe to be able to do it.

This is what I use to check

These are two female....the tell tale sign is the single hair shooting out of there.

These were the two males......and both sets of pics (two females above and these two males) were 100% accurate.

Yeah, I tried using my 60 x magnifier over the past 2 days..... Even my girlfriend did. This thing is so sensitive that it's a piece of garbage......nobody could hold it steady enough.
