Peyton's Holy Grail Kush - Flux - Hempy - Mars II 400

I was gonna post some pics tonight, but there hasn't been any significant change. I do have a question. When cloning, is it normal for the clones to look like they're on their deathbed? Its looking withered, but it's still standing up on its own, and just looks like it's in bad shape

When they droop its because of low humidity. Mine droop day 2 then perken back up 12 hours later, anything later then that they don't survive for me. Put a clear bag over it for a few hours. Let it soak up some water the only way it can. Might save it.

I had same problem with jiffys. Ya gotta keep them damn things dry but not too dry, and keep lots of humidity in the room or a dome or bag. Was a science I wasn't willing to master. Hydro shop one day, seen they had rockwool cubes for 20cents each. Bought 20, never a problem again with cloning. Give em a splash of water every 3-4 days. Shit holds water like crazy. By 3rd watering they got roots and into solocups of soil.
I'm cheap/broke and hate buying shit. These are a must for cloning for me now. I can't be bothered checking on clones daily, got better things that need more focus.

Then does that timer only work with magnetic ballasts, not digital ballasts or any other type of lighting?

The setup I'm talking about with the magnetic switch can be used for anything high load. I'll find out what they are called exactly tonight. I'll post a picture tomorrow here.

Yeah that clone is dead too. I picked it up and the damn thing slouched over and broke in half. 0 for 2 on clones so far. I'll figure it out someday.

Thanks. I still have a few seeds left so I'll get a few more chances. Might start a pineapple chunk or C99 when these go to flower so I can keep practicing. Or maybe try on some random bagseed. Might throw a few bagseed in the ground outside, even though it's late in the season for that.

Don't worry too much about it, I'm on 0 for 3 so far!!! I've just taken four clones from my Jack Flash in flowering hopefully these will do better....

I had some pineapple chunk on my last Amsterdam trip from Barney's I think, really nice place where they go a great breakfast! The strain is incredible, one of my favourite smokes of the trip alongside Kosher Kush (ahh the memories!! :))

I've used Root Riot plugs for the 1st time to germinate seeds & they were fantastic. There's lots of companies doing similar sponge type plugs & I think they'd be ideal for clones as keeping the perfect moisture level is so easy.
When you cut them did you put them straight into water? If you were delayed a bit they can draw up an air bubble that kills them or was it another issue hat caused them to fail?

They went directly into water. But I let the pellet get too wet and it wouldn't dry out quick enough. Plus no dome and I didn't mist them either. Plus, i was too lazy to make more Ph'd water, so the little water they got was full strength nutes. Just not enough time and energy in me right now. When I get my Saturdays back this week, I'll be ready for another shot someday

I had some success so far with cloning my Silver Surfer Haze by putting in root gel for a couple days and then going straight to soil with Mycorrhizal - dusted on root and into hole in soil. I did use a dome for about a day but she didn't seem to like it so I removed dome and she took off. Note, I did same process for a Kosher Kush clone and although she's not dead yet she shows no signs of wanting to grow yet.

Only 2 things I've had good success rate without domes. Rockwool and kitchen sponges lol seriously they work. The ones with the big air pockets, not the fine ones. Water works too. Warm water just let the clone sit in it. I've done it with no bubbler, not a high survival rate, but it works. And costs nothing.

Trick is with water cloning. Cut the cutting, and put it in water within a few seconds, once the stem sucks up air survival rate drops. Cut, trim leaves in half, dip in rooting compound and into water as fast as possible. 75f to 80f water works best, then once u see 1 cm roots, put into media of choice. Should only take 5 days to see root nubs.

I've seen other people with great results. I've done it and have had about 50/50 survival. Trick when learning to clone is to take a bunch at a time, even if u don't have room. Chances are till you figure out your veg area is no matter what method is gonna be hit and miss.
I found domes a pain, so I just keep high humidity in my veg/clone box. 70% and higher work anything lower made it almost impossible to have decent survival rate.
Its all trial and error, having dwc mother plants help humidity for me. I keep the bucket topped off. Even hanging a wet towel works for raising humidity. U want high humidity in veg anyways.

I've used the sponge trick for germinating - put the sponge in bottom of tupperware soaked with warm water and damp paper towel on top of sponge and dome slightly twisted so it keeps humidity but does not drown the seed and it worked very well for my first 2 seeds, we'll see how it goes when I try it again with the next round of seeds :peace:
