PeeJay's Perpetual Organic Homebrewed Soil - Stealth Cabinet And Greenhouse Grow

Re: Stealthy 1st time indoor/outdoor hybrid grow. Mama Mia and White Panther in soil.

Without a doubt, Rain; you are one of the most gracious folks on this sight. I love visiting your journal. The populous flocks to it - a pleasant place to visit. I learn much there. I was dead-ass serious when I made the cola monster comment. You have a knack for plants and a gentle nurturing soul.

You always make me feel so good about myself :hugs: I truly love gardening and watching things grow. I think I may have found my true passion in life. Hopefully some day I will be able to focus on it. There is something miraculous and exciting about watching a living thing grow and develop. Even if one does not believe in a creator of any kind, it is still just as magical. I think it is sad how disconnected we are in our society from our food and medicine :) I feel blessed to have the privilege to grow some of my own. :thumb: It is pretty cool that we can share that passion here!

Keep up the solid work!

I was just out in the greenhouse and the two big girls made me laugh. Helen is very laidback:

Colette is way more hyper. She always looks like she's jumping up-and-down:

I wonder if I'm going to end up with daytime smoke and nighttime meds from the same strain, lol.

Whatever you end up with is going to be exceptional I'm sure. The ones in the greenhouse...such perfect leaves and form! They look all dressed up with someplace they're going. Chatting away and looking lovely.
Great pics!:thumb:

Very Nice Indeed

I'm subbed up PeeJay! Mama Mias be purdy! :thumb:

I like your closet. I've been eyeing a 20" x 48" x 71" one for a veg closet, but I haven't figured out yet how I'm gonna vent 600 watts of heat out of it.

It'll be nice to grow the White Panthers together - I think it might be a winner.

:Namaste:

Welcome, Greytail ;) The fun is just getting started here:

Seeing your WP makes me wish I'd showered a little more attention on mine - but I was busy with the Mamas.

If you are looking at the same type of cabinet, watch out for the dimensions. They are built with two layers of resin with an airspace in between. Mine is supposed to be 20"x24" but the actual internal is more like 18.5"x21". It was easy to vent out the top. I used gorilla glue and lag bolts to sandwich the top and bottom of the celling with sheets of 1/2" particle board to make the top solid so I could hang lights, filter, etc. without fear.

It was easy to cut 6" holes in the particle board to vent out the top. Making holes through the resin was slightly more difficult since there are fins between the two resin layers that tend to grab the hole-saw bit.

I suppose you could mount a 6" inline on the roof like I did and have it pull through a cooltube without much effort, but I really couldn't predict if that would handle the heat. The other issue is the resin storage cabinets are far from lightproof, and there are not many options for using weather stripping to seal the holes. The hinged doors are nice though, and the cabinet feels solid enough to last for years.

There isn't much out there in the way of White Panther grows, but the strain has been around a while. It's going to be fun to see how they do.

The cabinet I'm looking at is from the big box stores - white laminated particle board. I want to divide it top/bottom and run 20-30 cfls in there. :cheesygrinsmiley:

It seems like it should work, but what would be really nice is to mount the bulbs vertically and run a baffle/reflector below the ballast level, between the bulb tube and the ballast, and then vent across that thin horizontal space - kinda like a cool tube for the ballasts. It'd be a 4 inch high shelf enclosing the sockets and ballast part of the bulb. I'm still mulling it over.

No doubt, Greytail, you'll figure it out if you mull it over. Finding innovative solutions to the challenges is one of the many fun aspects of this hobby - it's always fun to have a project to mull over.:thumb:

Good morning.

Soaked a couple of Darkstar (Purple Haze x Mazar-i Sharif) beans overnight and popped 'em into some dirt this morning. Should be able to veg them 8-9 weeks.

Thanks, Aje. Someone on here was doing the porta-scrog thing when I was doing my pre-grow research - before I was a member. Now I can't remember who it was - it's probably in completed journals somewhere... It's worked out well, and eliminates some troublesome aspects of screens that become fixed in place once the plants start growing through them. You can pull the plant out of it's space and look at it from all sides, and it's easier to water and feed.

Anyway, whoever you were, Porta Scrog person, I salute you.:adore:

Hello PeeJay and good luck on your DIY grow box and veg box, for sure a unique combo, lovin it. :bravo: You seem to be attracting some good attention so I will ride along as well. First time grower here but looking to make it a career since it has become recreational and medical legal to use, sell and grow as long as your licensed.

Curious as to one thing, it looks like your in a warm weather area from the feet photo's why are you growing indoors ?

Welcome, Dyold. I follow your journal. That's an ambitious project you have going - and going quite well!

I live in a high-desert environment at an altitude of 5200 feet. Right now the highs are typically in the low 60's and lows in the high 30's. The light outside is really strong, but the greenhouse only gets about nine hours a day of good light and a couple of hours of weak light. That will drop to around 8 hours of strong light by harvest time in mid-December. The one plant that I bring in and put in the cabinet overnight gets around 3 more hours of strong light than the plants outdoors, and it stays a little warmer at night than the ones that sleep outdoors. I'm confident that I can keep the outside ones warm enough at night that they won't ever get too stressed, but still... Having one that comes in at night is insurance that the whole grow doesn't die if a cold air mass drops the overnight temps below zero - something that is possible.

Right now this is mostly a greenhouse grow for all the plants. As the weather changes and the plants bulk up it's very possible the one Mama Mia, Helen, will move indoors full time.
