PCaddict's 1st Grow Journal

I am having a rough time getting the two Sweet Tooth seeds to pop. The other Amnesia Fast seeds popped two days ago and were pot in soil. The seeds were done the exact same way but the ST seeds look like Duds. I will grab two more and try them. If they don't pop in two days I will look and see what else I can run that will finish in time. I have a couple Autos and I have Bubbas Island Kush that says 7 weeks so I may try a couple of those
Next time you want to get stubborn seeds to crack place them in the freezer over night. I have gotten quite a few stubborn seeds to crack in the past this way. Also I like to soak my seeds for 24 hrs in water and a splash of h2o2 it helps to soften the seed casing. And last trick is to actually crack the seed just barely with tweezers or some type of pliers would work you must be very careful and that’s a last resort but it works. When you manually crack them you want to put pressure on the seems of the seed casing not on the round smooth part that will just smash them.

Thanks Shotta I will have to remember to put them in the freezer first for a day. I had NO problem with the Amnesia fast seeds they had tails just after 12 hours of being in the paper towels. I do soak them for a day before I put them in paper towels. After they soak for about 12 hours in a shot glass I tap them so that they sink and I leave them that way for another 8 to 12 hours then into the paper towels. That same thing happened to me last time. The Gold Leaf seeds all had tails after about 12 hours of being in the paper towels but the SCB CBD seeds would not crack. Seems to be my luck with getting seeds to crack. :(

After all these years seeds are still the hardest part of a grow for me. They are super delicate and easily stunted. When you can get the seeds to go with no hiccups they mature faster and grow so much better compared to a plant that gets stunted early in the seedlings life. I have gotten better over time but still seem to kill a few from time to time. When they don’t crack for me I usually end up squishing them with frustration lol. I know people that have cracked seeds leaving them in the paper towel for 7-10 days before. I have never waited past 4 maybe 5 days is when I give up

I just tried the tweezer thing and I think I may have crushed them. It was so hard trying to crack them on their edges. I couldn't see them very good and when I squeezed the slipped. I put them back in the paper towels to see what they will do but I also dropped two more seeds to see what they would do

Hello PC,shotta,Penny. I see I'm not the only one with germination/ seedling stress! Lol.:lot-o-toke: I got lucky with most of mine this time only one AK-47 did not sprout and the one that did I killed. But my dos I dos are girls! Have a great, stoned day! :volcano-smiley::yummy::ciao:

@PCaddict i don’t know if you did this already PC, but make sure you’re scarifying your seeds before you try to germinate them. I take a strip of sand paper and roll it into a tube. Then I place the seed in the tube and shake it back and forth for like 5-10 minutes. It really helps germination.

I have seen others doing that, I will have to cut some sand paper and put it in a pill bottle and try that

I have weighed the three plants that are ready. So I still have the biggest plant in the fridge doing the low and slow. Not including the one that is still in the fridge the total weight is 22.7 ounces. I have pictures or it didn't happen lol I did set the scale using an empty Turkey bag and hygromitar so the weights are right

Nice haul! Gotta love the end product! Its so rewarding growing your own.

I wonder if that filter will filter out the chloramine ? It will be my only way of having enough water for my plants until this Virus thing is over.

Morning pcaddict hope you are doing well and didn't over do it last night
I took it easy last night and didn't over do it I just took 4 canna oil caps

That's why I bought my ro filter system right then this all started was worried I couldn't get water for the ladies and I know my water sucks
RO doesn’t filter chloramine unfortunately.

I didn't know that, I will have to get some Ascorbic acid. Thanks for the heads up

Really it was designed for hydroponics systems so you would think it would be safe for my plants
It needs to be paired with carbon filters to remove the chlorine, then the RO filter will remove the ammonia. If your setup is an actual system paired with carbon filters, you’re good.

  • Carbon filters remove the chlorine portion of the molecule leaving the ammonia behind hence it requires another stage of filtration such as reverse osmosis to remove it.

Vitamin C filters – For showers this works better than other types at removing chloramines.

  • It takes about 1,000 mg of vitamin C (ascorbic acid form) to remove chloramines from 40 gallons of water.

Reverse osmosis units do remove chloramines as they generally have a couple carbon filters but they often produce large amounts of salt (sodium) in the water which can also cause problems if used to water plants.
