Well, as today is day 21 of 12/12 I'm thinking about doing a little defoliation on the girls. The fan leaves are really blocking some good bud sites and if I remember correctly isn't day 21 where the roots are big enough to support the flowers?

I wasn't going to strip them completely but around 30% of the fan leaves. Am I gonna be OK or am I just high?

The trimming so far has had absolutely zero negative effect on them but that was a lot less cutting.

Any input from those of you that do this would be awesome. Hell... Anyone that thinks I'm nuts please chime in as well

Yes it has worked for you! After seeing so many great grows where heavy trimming has worked so well, and the fact that I need to help these CFLs do the best they can... the shears have been snipping away in my brain.

Thanks a lot sir I got up and sat outside for a while today with wifey and our new pup. Man the sun was good today and felt great. My better half is going to get some trimming practice in the AM

Thanks xbox, it's looking like a 6-8 week recovery with physical therapy. The good part about this pain is that it's pain from healing

Yeah, id say you have established roots by now cool part about the pots im using is that can see the roots and they should be fine... There all the way down to the bottom and big, bright and white The trim will take place in the morning... Bubba Kush and Sour OG decided to hang out with us tonight

Believe it or not that canopy came from a little LST. The title of my thread is down two parts... The DWC and the SCROG. The only acronym that's working is the LST

What's this 21 day and 45 day trimming thing?? You're removing leaves to give the buds access to additional light...got that.

Are you just trimming the large fan leaves? Talk to me about this cause I'm coming up on the 45 day mark and I think if I'm going to do something like that, now's the time.

GF, I first heard about trimming from Chopper, and it may have been on BlueDog's thread.

In short, the idea is to trim anything dead, dying, not gonna produce anything substantial, and anything blocking other bud sites from getting light. This should help the plant focus on developing the productive buds and improve air circulation to help prevent mold.

Although, towards end of flower, they do feed off of themselves, because we are loading them up with nutes, there are more than enough reserves and the benefits of getting more light to the bud sites throughout flowering outweighs any potential nute issue right before harvest.

I do not trim the cola leaves - just the fan leaves.

I do believe this has worked well and will continute this technique for all plants in all future grows. I have started trimming the plants in veg, too, to help expose some bud sites.

That does help Krip..thanks!

It makes sense that the only real detrimental result would be a slowing of the harvest. As you say, they have more than enough nutes that the fan leaves may not serve as much of a purpose as if the plant were in the wild.

If trimming increases yield but slows the harvest time down a bit, that seems like a small price to pay no??

Day 22 of 12/12...

I didn't have time for the video today but will get some footage tonight It will be a double update though...pics this morning and video tonight

My wife got to "Make It Rain" on the ladies and also learned how to mix up the water with goodies. Cal-Mag, Hygrozyme and of course the Budswel! Mary-Kate was a little droopy from being thirsty. She perked up almost instantly with a nice drink.

Camera was dead so cell phone pics it is! It's hard to tell I trimmed anything..the growth was so dense, a trim of ~30% looks like nothing (at least to me). There is still a bit of residue from the PM treatment but that should wash off with a little RO misting later (Thanks Cateros).

You can now get an idea of how many nugs Mary-Kate is packing.

My smaller girl Ashley is turning into a cola factory

MK's tops are starting to fill in a bit but check out little Ashley now!

It's like trich party in there

Thanks man! Buds are starting to thicken up so it should be cool to see them over the next few weeks.... ~38 days to go... A part of me's hoping it goes to 45-52 days ! Should have some BIG NUGS by then!
