P-91 - CFL 12Pack - SCROG - DWC 1st Grow

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

Thanks Hemp! I picked up a digital meter today so the guess work is no more.

Despite the pH, heat, RH, wind burn and an F'N 2 hour power outage today :bitingnails:
They have found the will to grow!

I hope to wake up to happier plants, they are already starting to look much better than yesterday.

They look way better than yesterday...despite the challenges!! Awesome..what's the white stuff on top there? Looks like cotton balls..

;)

Getting better! The white stuff is Sure To Grow "Hail". You can check out the data on their website and they even have youtube videos. Really easy to use, took all of thirty seconds to fill the pots and no prep needed. (sorry for the infomercial) >>:tokin:

Back on topic! After I noticed a little bit of slime on one of the air lines this morning, "H2O2" popped to the front of my mind. The pH troubles I ran into and the high res temps the first 3 days took it's toll. After reading all morning on algae I decided to head over to the local hydro shop and pick up some 29% H2O2. I added it according to the label @ 3ml per 4L or 1 gal. to the nutes and ph'd water. The last two days I have set the pH at 5.5 and it rises to 5.9 and has been staying there. Looked like before I got the digital pH meter, my pH was being set around 6.2 and rising up to ~ 6.5-6.6 :trance:

After adding the H2O2, I came back 15 minutes later and one of the girls was leaned over about 60-70 degrees. After I picked up my jaw from the floor, I jumped online and searched for an answer. I read several different explanations and it looks like the plant was reacting to the attack on the possible Pythium invasion by the peroxide. I sat around anxiously for about 20 minutes and the little lady started to perk back up.

Day 5 (Leaning Lady, 30 min after H2O2)

Day_5_3_.jpg

The Runt (This was the the sad one from the earlier post) has got some new growth
Day_5_2_.jpg

...and then there's "Lucy Lawless"

Day_5_1_.jpg

I swear I'm gonna get this! (crosses fingers, legs, eyes)

Despite the plethora of curve-balls so far, the plants are still growing. The newest growth is green and vibrant and the res is sparkling clean now. I'll let you know how it works out tomorrow.

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

Well, woke up this morning to some very green girls. The curl in the leaves is almost gone and the roots are beautiful "bone white". I swear they grew another 1/4 to 1/2" overnight.:)

pH was at 5.8 this morning and they were feasting last night. These little ladies are a hungry group; Probably due to not being able to eat right for the last few days.

I'll get some pics up tonight.

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

From one DWC enthuthiast to another I'll definetly follow your grow :) I didn't get a chance to read much but I did check out the pics and its a nice start, my only suggestion is that if those bulbs arn't producing much heat (im using florescent tubes in a small T5 fixture in my veg closet till my 400 watt comes, produce almost no heat at all) I would lower them within an inch of the plant to be honest with you. The if you check out "my current grow" link in my signature you'l see what im talking about and in fact my T5 is probably closer than an inch. as a result i've seen great results!

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

Glad to hear they're much improved. :thumb:

The H2O2 is pretty awesome stuff. If you asked me about using it a year ago I would have said that would be crazy, it really is cool how much good info there is on the subject. I'm not home right now but my wife has been giving me updates and she says they grew some more and are looking good. I'll try and get some pics up later today.

Hey PG, thanks for the advice. I have been lowering the light a little each day or so to try and find the sweet spot, but with the problems I ran into I had no way to really know the best height at the time. Last night I dropped it down to around 2" from the tops and the little branches looked like they were reaching up to give it a hug this morning. :) They were a little more than 1" away too.

Hopefully if things stay in check, I'll keep it at ~ 2" and just raise it up each day.

Thanks for stopping in, your little lady is bushing up quick and looks great. I'll stop in on your journal, I need some hydro buddies too :high-five:

OH KAY... I am still impressed with the iPhone to this day!

Day 6 PICS

The new growth looks much better than the previous post.

On this little girl, I am thinking I need to change the name from "Lucy Lawless" to "Lucille Ball" uh, a read-head already??? WTF?

Maybe it's the :tokin::tokin::tokin: but I'm a bit confused. Is a red hair this early normal/common/unusual ? Need a little help here please.

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

yo thats dope that is normal. Thogh Red is a rare one definetly! but dope! ya if you look real close at the newer pics of my little girl you can see little itty bitty white ones and they seem to be kinda where the branches "elbow" out at. But ya man that means your plant is definetly a female. It may just be the strain but looking at your leaves and they way they are super skinny and the tips fold down she may have a manganeze or magnesium deficiency...just to be safe read up on the two. I used to have a book called the "marijuana garden saver" i let someone borrow but never got it back, but it had a pic of either one of those dfinincies and it kinda looked like urs. but urs look way milder. though check into it just to be safe...?

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

ya. im worried because the leaves look thick almost bubblyh and the way there tips are drooping isn't a good sign. tho dont get me wrong it could just be the strain. an ounce of caution can keep away mounds of frustration.

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

yo i just went through it all and checked out most of the posts. Damn dude im sorry to hear you've been having trouble. I didn't see anyone else get this advice, but yeah dude. Its a magnesium or manganese deficiency. look up pictures of the two and identify it as best you can. i honestly recomend the marijuana garden saver the book i got it at borders when i had it cuz it had a picture of ur plants that first day when you didn't know what the fuck happend so u added more nutes and adjusted ph. its obvious adding more nutes isn't helping and probably in the long run hurting your plant. well maybe not to bad but dude in growing its always best to give your plant less than rather than more than u know what i mean. just be slow and careful and get a PPM so u can raise her food more and more without damaging her with a giant jump in nutrients. But ya dude if its a magnesium problem which seems more likely go to your hydro shop and grab "calmag" i believe Botanicare makes that. I had the same prob in soil and that form of calmag did the trick, though there are many different companys who make a calcium magnesium nutrient solution and just call it something different u know. But yeah man, looks like you picked up some magnesium hungry clones! what nutrients are u using anyways?

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

Wow man, thanks for all the info, for real! Reps will be coming your way.

The strain is a bit of a mystery. I know it's a hybrid but the rumors of it's origin are conflicting. I have read about the San Diego (Poway Class of 91) that had been caught growing the strongest strain ever seen by the DEA and it was a four way cross with Northern Lights and some others. Then I read that it was bred in LA in 1991 and is a cross of Kush and pure Thai. Not exactly sure but it does look like there is some sativa in them. I'll try and get some more info from the grower I got them from and I will also visit the hydro shop and pick up some stuff. I'm using GH 3 part and had been adding nutes slowly. 1/4 dose at a time. I'm still about 1/4 less than a full dose right now. I'm gonna drain and replinish tomorrow; you think I should start at 1/4 again or maybe 1/2 strength until they get better?

Thanks again my man, it's very cool that you have done as much as you have!

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

After looking over the pH and nute uptake charts it looks like the Manganese starts to taper off around 5.2 and continues to drop as pH goes up.
It also looks like the Magnesium Is up when around 5-5.5, tapers off around 5.7, then starts to jump up at 6 and raises from there. If anything, they have had almost no Manganese and a shit ton of Magnesium. The pH was fawked up since the beginning but is good now. Should I still use calmag or give it a day with the new batch of water and some half strength nutes?

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

Yo! Thanks for the fucking Reps dude! i've passed those out before but thats my first time recieving some points so much apreciated! Honestly bro at there size it all depends on the nutes, do yourself a favor and grab yourself a Parts Per Million Meter, I got a nice blue Hanna one at my local Hydro shop for 25 bucks or you can get the color strips like pool guys use but they arn't as precise. Anyways get that and experiment with the water and follow this parts per million chart:
Seedlings 50-150ppm
Unrooted clones 100-350ppm
small plants 400-800ppm
large plants/flowering 900-1800

With normal Indica and Sativa plants I like to stay conservative with those numbers though it might not need to be if you got a Ruderalis in there or however you spell it. But I would label your plants from the pics at small plant size and based on what level of small plant they are i'd give them aprox 450-500ppm honest. Try that with some cal mag bud. Take it e z.
:Namaste:

PEEEEEE GGGEEEEEEEE:high-five:

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

It didn't look like Magnesium to me. I was also thinking Manganese.

Manganese deficiency occurs when large amounts of Magnesium are present. I would stop with the cal/mag for sure. Foliar feed with something with Manganese. Hope this helps. :smokin:

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

well with that info supplied I would have to agree with Hemp Rocker on my first assumption that its a Manganese deficiency. As far as cutting off Cal Mag, i'd take a break from it for a week or two and then reintroduce very small amounts like 5ml/gal Im not familiar with what would work best with treating a Manganese deficiency but i'd read into it. Or just do what Hemp Rocket said and foliage feed.

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

Hemp and PG, thanks guys! I haven't added the calmag yet. I'm guessing the high pH is what caused the Magnesium toxicity. I will try the foliar feeding but right now things just got a little rough around here. My wife's grandfather passed away today and she's gonna need my attention right now. I'll get the levels down and have to do what I can.

This really is a great place and guys like you sure make me wanna come back.

Thank you.

:bigtoke: i feel the same way :)

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st Grow

Man, in a way I wish I could start over and do this right the first time, but it's better I learned what I did wrong so I won't do it again.

Believe it or not the girls are still alive after the cluster-f@$K of starting my first grow. On top of everything that happened I noticed that the bin I am using was GLOWING with light inside. I guess my light fixture is working! Now I know it's not the only reason I've had the problems but it was a huge factor in the chain of events (algae, res temps, pH, and roots trying to climb back in the net pots). It's both funny and sad that the obvious was overlooked, but the signs the plants were showing made me think about everything but the opacity of my res. So, I wrapped the res in a terry cloth/ microfiber blanket folded in thirds (3 layers of love now) and aluminum taped the lid. It's now darker than a politician's heart in there and the res temps have been at 64-66 deg for the last two days without the use of frozen water bottles or the thought of a chiller.

I drained and refilled the res last night with pH'd water (5.8) and some H2O2, and that's it. Then I cut off the leaves that were more than 75% dead (only 1 or 2 per plant). The ppm's were at 190 without any nutes and this morning it had gone up to 212 ppm and two of the plants have started untwisting and the leaves have begun to flatten out a bit. The roots have started growing again and it almost looks like they just want to eat. The runt looks like she's hanging on but I'm not sure for how long.

I'm just guessing at this point but is the plain water leaching out the ferts that the plant has too much of? Much like flushing before harvest? How long should I wait before feeding them again? I was going to wait another day or two but would love to hear your thoughts.

I'm still getting back to normal after the funeral and will have enough time to care for these little ladies now. I'll put up pics later when I get back home.

Thanks again you guys.
