P-91 - CFL 12Pack - SCROG - DWC 1st Grow

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st grow

Sweet, my first visitor!

I guess I listed the PH in the wrong spot. The PH was ~5.5-6.0 when I stuck the girls in. The 7-7.5 PH is out of the tap.

The girls are doing great this morning. The RH inside the cab doesn't seem to want to go past 30% though. I thought I had read if the RH is on the lower end (but not too low) the plant will take up more moisture through the roots to compensate for lower RH, can anyone confirm or deny that info please?

I'll get some cab pics up shortly.

Thanks!

Nope the plants are not really able to make up for the low Rh by increased mater uptake thru the roots low humidity will actually increase the rate of transpiration thru your leaves causing your plants to use up more water just to keep the leaves moisturized but this will also cause your nutrient strength to rise quickly in your resevoir which overtime will lead to nutrient burn unless you monitor nutrient strength and water levels constantly , but still extreme low humidity will also compromise your yield as the plants photsynthesis will slow down to help the plant retain moisture and keep from drying out. So your best bet 50% rh in veg 40-45 in flower will usually work out best if temps are between 74-80 degrees.

Hey Cateros, thank you for stopping in, it's an honor to have you here.:Namaste:

When I first started out, I was really not as ready as I hoped I was. After a myriad of problems and losing my first three clones, I changed my setup, grabbed some soil and rolled the dice :). Things have been improving and the girls are much happier.

When I was vegging I used two humidifiers to combat the dry climate I live in and finally achieved a RH range in the high 40's to low 60's with temps in the mid 70's with a high of 82 (2 times). I pulled the humidifiers 5 days ago and the RH has dropped to 25-35%. I'm guessing I should get them back out now?
I think using one humidifier will bring me into the RH range you suggested.

Thanks for taking the time to help out a new grower, I appreciate it.

"They" say that around 30% to 50% or so is optimum but I don't know that 25% is too low...

As long as one humidifier doesn't put you over 60%, I think you'll be goo to go bro!!

Hey Dirt! Havnt been by very recently! so sorry about that!!!! But they are looking awesome!! Are you going to kee trying to tie them down as they grow bigger? Can you take an udner canopy shot??!

Thanks farnorth, and I know what it's like to stay busy so I totally understand. I actually tied a bit more last night, but it looks like the stretch has slowed a bit. Pics are coming!

Can't wait for a pic update!! :popcorn::grinjoint:

Soon! I promise :) I took a bunch before lights out.

Thanks for your input Giants as always :Namaste:. I'm on the fence with the RH right because of the powder mold that keeps sneaking around. It's been jumping around in very small doses but I added a large circulating fan today and hope that will do the trick. I need to pick up a filter for the humidi today so I'll probably stick it back in tonight.

The pots were pretty dry this morning so I decided to give them a small shot of nutes for the first time. A sort of quasi "Lucas" if you will.

Each plant got the following mixed with a 1/2 Gal of RO water:

1ml GH micro
1ml GH bloom
2.5ml Cal-Mag
5ml Hygrozyme
8ml Budswel

I want to start off slow with the GH to avoid any burns, plus the soil has a bit of goodies in it still.

Now off to the light! It will be a bit different than my sketch but should be great. I'll try and get the DIY up soon.

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st Grow

Well guys and gals here's the Day 6 of 12/12 update...

Right before I went to take my light apart today I posted a reply in my DIY thread and reminded myself why I made it this way in the beginning... to be able to VEG multiple plants. The plants are too wide to switch it up now, and I want to see what this thing can do ALL the way through. I was a bit disappointed at first, but my lovely wife reminded me that next grow it will ONLY be for Veg :high-five:.

I did replace two more 23W bulbs with 42W's for a total of 6 23W and 6 42W.
I will now have 390 watts for flower, up 114W's from veg.

Enough with that and on to the PICS! :cheertwo:

..I uh, have a few :) starting with some underneath shots to show how dense the growth on the main stem is getting.

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st Grow

Nice thick stems ready to support the (what's going to be) massive weight of those forming nugs!!! :)

I sure hope so my friend!:)

I took a few pics this morning I'll put up soon, they love water days :MoreNutes:

I also aerated the top few inches of soil a bit by poking holes in it with the bamboo skewer I used before as it helps the water to absorb much more evenly and adds some air too :cheertwo:

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st Grow

waddup dime, she looks exactly like my plant right now in flowering stage, in size she looks like mine about 3 months ago haha. gonna catch up now

Hello xbox, our girls do look similar close up ;), it looks like your lady is loving the sunshine, I wish I could put my girls out but then someone else would be enjoying the fruits of my labor and I'd be out two plants.

My girls are still expanding a little over an inch a day right now so I'm anxious to see what they'll look like in a few weeks. My runt is now around 16"X16"X 12" tall and her big sister is 18"X22"X12" tall. I've been tightening the LST every other day so the light can stay within the effective range of the tops.

Hope you stick around till the end and feel free to share some of those POM trade secrets! :high-five:

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st Grow

count me in till the end man, i love what you've got going there. my big "arnold" is about 22"x23"x38" right now :) I think we may even harvest around the same time too! this should be awesome!

Also a lil tip, looks like you've got a tiny bit of nute burn (as you can see by the yellow tips on the leaves), but im sure somebody has mentioned that.

As for sunlight, let em sit by a window for a couple hours a day (their small enough to move around). That should help out tremendously.

Thanks again, I still get a big grin from the thought of a harvest from plants that I grew :cheertwo:

Also, thanks for the tip. HempRocket pointed out the same thing a short time ago. My little Ashley has kind of been my problem child from the beginning. What's strange, is that I just fed them for the first time yesterday and the yellowing has been popping up the whole grow. My bigger girl really hasn't had any problems since I pulled her from the DWC. The yellowing has been going away as the leaves get bigger so I'm not really sure how to correct it.

If anyone has any ideas, fire away.

Thanks!

Re: dirtinmyears P-91, CFL 12-Pack, SCROG, DWC 1st Grow

The way i figure out when to add nutes and increase the amount is through what the plant tells me. I start adding nutes when i notice some leaves going all yellow on me. then i start adding nutes until i notice that again, then i increase the nute amount, and so on. That way you never make your girls "OD" or burn from nutes, but stays nice and green.

Yeah man, harvest time will be awesome, all your hard work paying off in the end. First grows are always the awesome ones!

This is also true but only if you are growing plants from extremely arid climates but the problem being that the genetics available today have been bred in controlled climates that are in general 50% or so rh in veg and around 40% in flower after enough generations of breeding these plants will thrive in these conditions but show signs of stress the further you move away from the optimal climate for the strain. Actually there is actually a plant health problem caused by exteme low humidity I found out it consists of the leaves becoming extremely narrow at the point where they join at the petiole so thin that they are only little wider then the vein that feeds the vascular system of the plant leaving the leaves weak and easily damaged.

Thanks for the tip, I tried to give you some reps but the system said I couldn't yet.

That's some really good info, thanks again. I put one of the humidifiers back in the room this morning, but won't know the RH until lights on later tonight.

I appreciate the help and feedback from all of you guys.
