Outdoor Growing With BeezLuiz

Highya Beez,

Hope you're okay! Haven't heard from you in awhile! I'd love to see your ladies if you're willin'. Happy Smokin'

Congrats on all the harvest, excellent work.
Thanks Danishoes!

Hope all is well with you up north! :ciao:
Hi Everyone, sorry about being M.I.A. lately. All is well in Beez Land. :green_heart: It's just been a crazy busy summer for me, and my summer grow has been rather disappointing. Speaking of which, here's a long-overdue update.
I think I had mentioned that my two plants were purchased clones from a dispensary. I should have asked the dispensary what kind of light schedule they had the clones on, but I didn't, and I just assumed they were something like 18/6. When I got them home I put them on an 18/6 schedule for a week or two and then gradually adjusted the lights to match Mother Nature's schedule. I reduced the lights by 30 mins each day until I got the schedule down to 14.5 hrs on and 9.5 hrs off so that I could relocate them outdoors. I'm pretty sure the dispensary had the clones on a 24 hrs light schedule because even before I had reduced the lights all the way down, the plants started going into "flower" mode.

I managed to get them back into "veg" mode, but they've been pretty stunted in growth during the height of summer hours.
Chem Dog is in a 20 gal pot and is currently about 24 inches tall, while Sour Diesel is in a 7 gal pot and only 18 inches tall.
All of the new growth has been pretty typical "reveg" stuff with only a single finger, then gradually got leaves with 3 fingers.
Finally I am starting to see new growth producing 5-pointed leaves.
I usually get flowering started by now (early July), but probably because of the "reveg", it's been delayed. Still no indication of flowering beginning, which is fine with me. I'd like to get a little more "veg" growth in. In spite of all this, the plants seem pretty heathy.

Oh, a quick note about my last harvest of the two White Zelica plants. I ended up with 2.1 oz and 2.6 oz of cured buds from them. Yield was low, but quality was high. :woohoo: The buds are super dense and very sticky. The smoke is very satisfying as well. Currently my favorite - my son's favorite as well.

Sorry to hear about the reveg :( though I do think that reducing the light 30 minutes a day would probably have put them in flower even if they had been at 18/6.
Possibly so, although I've done this every previous season prior to placing my plants outside. Never had any issues until now. All 4 of these clones went into premature flower. :hmmmm:

I don't recall if I've already mentioned this, but the reason I have the Sour Diesel in a 7 gal pot is so that I can easily move it inside under lights beginning in October. This way it can take as long as it needs to ripen up without worrying about the weather and decreasing daylight hours.

Sorry to hear about the stunted plants but congrats on the 2 White Zelica harvests. What is it about them that you and your son particularly like?

Summer Grow Update:

Plants seem to be doing well in general. Certainly not growing as vigorous as seasons past, but still good learning exercise for me. They are currently 98 days since planting into soil. Sour Diesel is 22.5 inches tall and Chem Dog is 29 inches tall. They are still stretching.

They are finally looking to have begun their true flowering cycle.

I've been feeding them with Prescription Blend Nutrients 5 part kit. I'm trying it out for the first time, as it was one of my contest prizes. The nutrients seem to be working pretty well so far, although I am starting to see some fading of the fan leaves. I've increased the core nutes a bit, so we'll see if that improves things.

I forgot to hit "post" when I wrote this last week.. sorry about that HashGirl.

The White Zelica is maybe the stickiest buds I've grown so far. The smell is great, and the flavor is pretty nice with a hint of fruit. This is rare for me to be able to taste anything I smoke - usually just tastes like weed. It's decently potent and the high is well balanced between head and body.

Hullo Beez, lots of nice plants around here!
All the best to you and yours.
Stay stoneder.

Update time...
Sour Diesel
First up is the Sour Diesel clone. It's in a 7 gallon pot and was planted 124 days ago.
It's in full flower mode now and finished stretching. Its final height is 24 inches tall. Since it had gone into premature flowering early on, it didn't get very tall, but that's ok - I actually wanted a shorter plant for this one. I've done some heavy pruning on this to thin out the dense shoots it got from the reveg issue. I'm pretty happy with the shape at this point, with lots of top colas forming.

The buds are looking pretty good so far as well, and starting to develop the trichomes.

At this stage of flower, the aroma is starting to show up, which means it will start attracting moths. I will be soon moving it into my garage under my NextLight Core for the remainder of its time.

Chem Dog
Chem Dog clone is in a 20 gallon pot and was also planted 124 days ago.
It's also in full flower mode and has finished stretching. Its final height is 31 inches tall. Same thing with this one - it went into premature flowering, revegged, and now back into flowering. Since this has started flowering so late, I'm afraid this might go into November before being ready for harvest. With these revegged plants, they develop very bushy/airy shoots that would lead to lots of larf if left untouched. I've heavily pruned these plants to remove a lot of the lower shoots and to thin out the colas toward the top. I still have lots of top cola sights in the making, so I'm not too worried about my yield.
I want to focus the plant's energy to making those top colas. Every few days I find myself trimming off more and more shoots. Here's what the bottom looks like so far... I'm sure I'm still not finished.

The buds are starting to frost up nicely, too.

I haven't decided whether to pull out my caterpillar cage or just spray BT once a week, but the buds are starting to get some aroma so I need to decide soon.

Beautiful looking clones BL! I know that @GratefulBud has two revegged plants flowering and are airy and leafy, which is probably why many folks will reveg and take clones rather than reveg and flower. I'm curious to see if your heavy trimming is the answer to making those tops produce! :nomo:

Hit it with the BT just before you move it indoors, for insurance. :)

Highya Beez,

Two nice looking ladies on Trolleys. Very professional! Took a lot of trimming to get to that point! I've been trimming on mine this year, and have stopped. Was hoping to remove larf before flowering. Are yours alright with trimming after flowering? I don't know if the bud building process overall would be interrupted by removing bud sites. Love the look of Chemdog! Big burly looking colas and lots of solar panels to capture the sun's energy. Just lots to trim. Happy Smokin'

My only other experience with a "revegged" plant is a Trainwreck that I grew in 2019. I didn't do as much pruning on that one as I am doing on these now. The buds actually turned out pretty ok on that Trainwreck, and the smoke was really good. I'll be interested to compare.

A wise recommendation for sure! :thanks:

My plants don't seem to mind at all, when I prune them during flowering. I do it throughout veg and flower every season. I find it easier to identify the larfy material during flower.

Hiya Beez!

That large cola looks like my LA Pop Rocks from last year. The two Jack Herers I'm now growing did the same thing and look similar as well. I lolli-popped them trying to stimulate more top bud growth. Still a LOT of leaves. Will see how it turns out.

In my experience, there's never just one caterpillar. :nervous-guy:
