Thank's peoples.. Weed is just a pretty plant period... Well, I think it's time to pull a cork on a stash of good whiskey. To help motivate me to put in this new controller unit.. The bad thing is I only have 3 wires to work with and 4 connections on the controller. Guess I'll not have use of the neutral wire which will make the timed 110 plug non-operational.. But the timer and the 220 power X4 will work. This is the one I ended up blowing my light monies on;

I'll just have to win big at the casino when we go this month... Man I can't get this damn thing to work.. F it I'll wait till I feel abit better to tangel with it... Happy 420 and Keepem Green
220v circuit you have 4 wires:
Black - hot (120v)
red - hot (120v)
Neutral - white usually
green - ground (not to be confused with neutral)
you need all 4 wires... same as a 220v dryer hook up.
The cable from your box should have all 4 in it @ 12ga or 10ga wires.
10ga is probably code so it works better with long runs ... if you have a short run from the box u can do 12ga, "I" would run 10ga just because.
You're likely missing the green ground cable. you can go get some green cable at homer they sell it by the foot. Can get 12ga for the ground it will be cheaper.
Hooks up green ground wire to the ground buss bar(NOT neutral - very important) in your box. Will be obvious where it hooks up once you take to box cover off. Power off the main first. Have a big flashlight and run wires before hand you can do this....
Can wrap or zip tie the green ground cable to the 220v cable already installed.
Let me know if you need help with this .... I've done this and all sorts of HV work in my illustrious career as part time solder slinger.
Trick is getting the new cable to the location you need it! That and proper place in the box to tie into.... Ground buss NOT neutral buss....and of course you may need to check where the ground cable out of the box to ground is tied to.
Older homes ground from box is tied to copper pipes but that's not code anymore. Do a plumbing update and tear of some copper and replace with plastic pipes and there goes the ground now nothing is grounded. (possibly).
The way a proper ground is done is that another green cable goes from the ground buss in the box outside and ties to 2 copper rods 8' long spaced 6' apart and buried into the ground/ yard outside and everything covered and under ground.. not as hard or expensive as it sounds. 3/4" hammer drill puts those rods down in like 2 minutes/rod. Tie cable to both ends of rods and bury under ground. done....
If your house is newer chances are you already have that ground setup and just may need to run a green cable or find it in the existing cable .. grounded 240v has been code for a pretty long time! Cables are 4 wires .... should be a 4th one there somewhere.
Here's a diagram to show you where the green wire needs to be.. your old controller may not have needed the green wire cause it had an internal ground strap going from the Neutral to the ground ... you can see that in the diagram on the left side. Look at your cable maybe there's a green wire cut short or wrapped up. Check the end in the box for proper hookup to ground buss if so...
The left side is the old way ... right side is code probably everywhere in North America.
