OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

Awesome otm cant wait to see the bud porn.. haley is looking great again, so much new growth on her!! Love the age comparison photos.. they look like twins! .

Bud porn in a couple days...Toast, following your journal with the Dwarf was instant diagnosis for me...plants not ready for intense light...to anyone following along...If you move your plants from low veg lights into intense grow lights, start your lighting at the top and drop them down slowly...Toast, you and I have proved that!:rofl:

Thanks for stopping by Avid, :welcome: Those ex's will haunt you forever!:laughtwo:

Sounds like you have a fun thing of your own going on!:thumb:
I do. I am an old BOG and Soma enthusiast. I love your desire.

Ihhad 40 yrs in with 6 grands four kids etc etc. All gone now. Took a few years of just focusing on growing to grow my heart again but I did. I love your story one of never give up. That is my story too.

Thank you very much m80, :welcome:

Its been trial and error through out, but my best results have been 1. scuffing the seeds with fine sandpaper. 2. giving them a bath in distilled water with H2O2, and using distilled water with 500 PPM's of GA3 for a 24 to 36 hour soak.
I have had to give the shells some extra help to open up on a few after they cracked, seems the endosperm covering on old seeds gets like leather over time and is too tough to allow the radicle to rupture it.

Good luck to you and if you have any questions that I can help with, feel free to ask!:cheertwo:
I read somewhere last week about using hot water for old seeds. Don't know the value of it but I share. I have used the acid approach before with success.

Same here. I have ~70W of CFL and LED bulbs in my veg tent, and the grow light in my flower tent is only 125W of Cree COBs, but that thing is quite powerful and I've noticed it's more than enough to stress some of the plants during the transition.

Hey OTM
I've not been on 420 for quite a few weeks cos I lost my Grow Set-Up (long family-drama-story) and have just replaced it now. Your journal is one of the 1st I've checked back on. I remember reading that you'd just found the vintage seed stash that had survived 40 years, thanks to your dear Mum's hoarding skills (I too am 'a collector' of nearly everything...i.e. A hoarder). And I was so excited about the prospect of you journaling the Grow of your vintage strains! You've exceeded my expectations, OTM. Respect.

I love having a garden, cucumbers, peppers, tomato's, potato's, beans, peas...its work but its also very relaxing work when winding down from a stress filled day.

It takes some investment, time management, and commitment but the results out weigh the time spent...glad you are focusing on what makes you happy!:thumb:

Its kind of common sense after the fact...what was I thinking?:laughtwo: looking back, it was lack of common sense figuring that the younglings would like what the old gals liked...don't worry, I slapped my noggin a few times for you all!:rofl:

25% is pretty good for not having much experience with old seed popping! Its been trial and error right? Good you got lotsa seeds though...!

Trial and error is my first name!;)

I am glad I have something to work with on the Maui seeds, there were around 70 in that bottle, the red and gold will be a bit more challenging, 30 seeds max and it took me about that many on the Maui so far, I have a good feeling that my chances for a male and female are good, thinking Hayley is showing some female signs so far and will post soon!

Glad to have you back Anna, sorry to hear about the family stuff, family can be a godsend and a curse at the same time!:slide:
If and when I get these seeds to reproduce again and I find away to certify and partner with a reliable seed bank, they may be available to everyone...that is probably a lot of dreaming at this point, but my goal is a true 70's strain that everyone has the chance to grow like it was grown back then.:peace:

What an awesome idea, OTM! I'd put my order in right now, if they were available. It'd be a kind of legacy left by your Mum's hoarding skills and recreated by your growing skills. I love it. Respect.

I'am in line for the Panama Red. Don't worry I am patient after all I have been waiting 40+ years already.

And don't worry about Colombian Gold, cause original '72 line is back on the market... 15-18 weeks of bloom will edge out most of the curious ones though :laugh: Very good stuff, definitely worth your time :smokin2:

OTM I heard some people talking about Maui Wowie when I stopped for gas today. I was this close to telling them, "You should see what a guy I know is growing!"

9-28 Update;

The week goes fast around here with fall starting to give signs on what is to come...time to get everything that has been "put off" taken care of and brace for winter!

The clones and Hayley have almost recovered from their caretakers mistake, good growth and selective pruning with no ill effects will translate to the flower flip soon.

The last two pictures are of Hayley, it still shows some leaf tip droop but so do the others, I am seeing some air pruning of the roots both along the sides pots and top of the coco so the roots are doing their thing!:cheertwo:

The new baby Maui's are a different story, this one looks like it wants to jump out of the pot;

This one is idling along;

And this one is not sure if it wants to do much of anything....

9-28_002.JPG

They all get the same amount of water in coco, the PPM's of the water is around 150 and PH is 5.7...Hayley acted this way for it 1st couple weeks so my concern level is not in panic mode yet...:straightface:

I started to do a bit of refining on my harvest, a bit of sorting, some stem snipping and separating good smoke from edible materials, no final weight yet, but here is a little nug porn from my last White Widow harvest;

9-28_014.JPG

9-28_017.JPG

Smoke samples are mellowing as the cure progresses, the smell in the jars are getting much stronger and the harshness less, the White Widow...2-3 hits off the pipe and I am pretty much done for the evening...I get on here to catch up on everyone's journals and comment...but its beyond hope, getting the fingers to hit the right key is tough and typing out a coherent sentence is worse!

The Purple Kush is not as bad, 2-3 hits and I can still function good, it doesn't affect my functions, my mind still wanders some but it seems to not effect my drive to do get things done.

The best part of this 1st indoor grow is no more mystery weed from here or there, the folks I share my passion with will get a taste of it around the upcoming holidays after it has been well cured...it will be interesting to see how the respond to it! :grinjoint:

:thanks:

LOL, I appreciate your enthusiasm Anna, not sure how my mom would feel about it, while she was a fairly religious person. she never judged others...she would make her opinion known but that is as far as it went...I am sure she knew what her little boy was up to!:high-five:
