OTM's DIY Bubble Cloning & Sprouting 40 Year Old Seeds & Current RDWC Harvest

Great update OTM. Looks slightly promising for the new round of MW beans. Everything else is looking healthy as a horse. Well done sir.

Its probably a futile attempt but we will give it a try, I am thinking maybe I should have increased the GA3 instead of reducing it...not the same amount of action like the last try. Instructions say to work up but don't get over 900 PPM's...guess I have 400 to go!:laughtwo:

So i know this seems crazy but back in the dinosaur age, or sometime before that even, the cannibis plant split off from the hops plant.. im wondering if the more sativa strains have more genes from hops plants then the indica strains do. Just a really random thought i had just now lol. Probably doesnt work that way but hops plants grow really tall up a trellis and i could see a sativa plant being grown in the same fashion.

That's an interesting question! I have seen studies of the degree of relatedness of different cannabis strains, but it would be really interesting to see where the various plants in that family sit on the tree of life, their degree of relatedness, etc.

Back about 1970 I bought a book about how to grow marijuana that had a section about performing an herbaceous graft of a hop plant onto a cannabis root system. I have no idea why they were doing that, but if it would actually work, it must show some degree of relatedness....

<edit> Look what I found at Wikipedia under Cannabaceae. The hop genus, Humulus, is right next to the Cannabis genus (and as I'm typing this, I'm drinking a pint of dry-hopped India ale). ;) I think I'm going to poke around and see what some of the other genera look like...

Nice update OTM! Lots of progress as you approach the finish line with the ladies. Can't wait to hear how the early popcorn tastes. I'm amazed I've been able to hold out until harvest. Are you going to scrog again next round? What are your plans for the reveg ladies? I'm thinking of squeezing a couple of mine in next to the Chocolope and flowering them when round 1 of 24K comes out in a week or two.

Thanks Dobe, I will smoke report ASAP...if and when I am able to function again!!!:laughtwo:

I am not sure if I will scrog...depending on how much I can narrow up my RDWC, it is a real bitch getting towards the back two plants...especially now...glad they are the tallest!

I plan on working on them the next 3-4 weeks, I should have the new light Monday and then I will work on some training...I was waiting to see real leaves and I think that is starting. That would also give me a couple weeks to work on improving the flower room... the veg tent can handle everything growing for awhile.

Haha like watching paint dry but slower.. youve waited so long and now you have to wait some more lol! Things are looking great man.. id love an old school strain that grows slow like that. Shes so perfect! Good luck with the new seeds.. looks like they are being difficult. Very good examples of sativa and indica in the last two pics.. the differences between the two are really fascinating to me.

I remember reading about how they tried grafting to each, they both supported each other but did not share the same fruiting/reproducing abilities, so they must share some basics genetics besides being a plant, its shouldn't take long before someone connects the dots!...Scientific???? we are waiting!:thumb:

Hmm so its the other way around then!! Very interesting stuff mr scientific man thank you.. those definitely look like some fat indica fingers but they come from an asian hop plant!! Some crazy lineage going on here... makes me wonder if thats why cannabis plants bud up.. like a hop plant does. Im drinking some wheat ale myself!

Man, some day I'm gonna retire to a place out in the country and do some serious plant breeding! Cannahops, the best of both worlds! :thumb:

8-17 update;

Not a lot to report today, the current grow is getting cloudier with a few more amber trich's showing up, one of the Widow and one of the Kush gals are getting a lot of colorful hairs, not seeing much Purple on the Purple Kush yet but a lot of White on the White Widows.

Baby Hayley is looking about the same, as are the clones, the new tops are starting to produce leaves that look like MJ leaves so soon the training will begin.

No sign of life yet on the seeds in coco, been keeping them wet and warm with my fingers crossed but since I live in the path of the great eclipse that has everyone so excited, I plan on starting round 4 the day before to see if any solar/lunar activity will help me out!:cheesygrinsmiley:

My plan is to go back up to 500-600 PPM's of GA3 since that was the formula that has been most successful and have them soaking 18-24 hours before the grand event!:cheertwo: I will probably put them outside exposed in zip-lock so the retain moisture but get to soak up the action!

As promised I did a taste test of the purple Kush budlet last night;

A small bowl in my used and abused stone pipe that is as old as the seeds I am trying to pop pretty much took care of any aches or pains I had, slowed down the evening to a crawl, and had me forgetting what I intended to do a few times!:smokin:

The stuff was great for an evening of stoned R&R, I turned on the big screen, put on Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon on Kodi, plugged the headphones into the AVR and ENJOYED!

The taste was a little harsh through the old pipe, enough to give me instant cottonmouth and after a couple hits it started building, I took a couple more for good measure and that was all I needed...other than a beer to wet the whistle which was warm and half finished by the time I went to bed. No munchies craving, just dry mouth, slept like a baby and was still a little off this morning.

Can't wait to try the Widow, probably a good choice for the afternoon of the upcoming eclipse!

Thanks for following the ride!;)

Awesome pipe OTM.

My dad is a massive Pink Floyd fan, he travelled to see them a couple of times when I was a kid.

Sounds like your Purple is off to a good start. Just wait til it finishes up...

I think your dad and I would have a great time "catching up" what it was like back then with a bowl & beer! :passitleft:

I am excited also, this was a popcorn bud from under the scrog with probably 30-25% cloudy and just put in the cupboard to dry...hoping the Widow is more a up and go high...but probably not because they are pretty close THC/CBD with the Widow having 1% more CBD.

Am a huge pink floyd fan myself. Dark side of the moon, umma gumma, atom heart mother, a saucer ful of secrets, echoes and so on. What a band

Agreed, to bad they let their egos get in the way, if they would have stayed together another 10 years, who knows what they could have produced. Waters Gilmore Wright & Mason took it to another level after Barrett, while the pre Gilmore days were good, the mid to late 70's probably were the best.

8-18 Update;

We have Nanners...one plant in RDWC found on two separate cola's...This Purple Kush gal is now called Chiquita!:laughtwo:

I wish they were on the PK Coco gal, I would pull it out and put it in its own space and let it make me some seeds, but since its in the RDWC system all I can do is pick them off and freeze them...for what I don't know?

The rest of the plants are looking good, swelling up and getting some nice frost.

Little Hayley is starting to grow a little, it is slowly spreading out, not a lot of upwards growth which is what I want to see because it has 3 months to go in flower.

The old bean sprout attempt #3 is still not showing any signs of pushing anything through the coco, I used a toothpick and pulled back the 1/4" covering one seed that split in the soak, not much has changed, it is still White but no tap.

:thanks:

OTM, any plans to train Hayley in any way? Have you thought of topping when she's at 6 nodes? You could try rooting the top and give Hayley a sibling? Or is it getting too cute to try modern techniques when the goal is to get this thing through the process and sexed without hiccups?

I will try to keep it low and spread out, I would have a limit of 4 feet of height + 12" for the pot/tray and the rest for short lighting. In the past outdoors, I grew them like a tree, kept that main leader shooting up and topped the side buds to fill it out, they looked a lot like CG's outdoor monster. If I can get another to sprout, 2 plants in a 4X4X7' is the plan.

Looks like you got sticky and stinky fingers tonight!:goodjob:
