OMM's Social Network Part 3

Oh Baby... Big Brother and the Holding Company... Janis is my all time favorite female singer. That girl had so much soul.. puts these modern day made-up singers to shame in my book. That girl oozed soul and sex with her voice as well as moved heaven and earth.

-a FAN
You are 100 % Right, Smokz ..... How can you Not get chills listening to "Take another piece of my heart"

Janis moves me still to this day, I have a few of her old videos I like to fire up once and a while. Tear jerkers baby...

She left us far too soon.. oh what she could have become. Same could be said for Jimi.

Eric Clapton's career has always impressed me as well. A true journeymen he is. Still growing and playing to this day. Like Jimi we heard him long before we knew who they were, playing under others. Artisans and pioneers they were and are.

Not a good answer from me I'm afraid......I was a mainliner...The Doors - Led Zep - Pink Floyd - Rod Stewart - Fleet-wood Mac. Crosby, Nash Stills & Young.

I've SEEN a photograph of a YoungMedMan... With Dizzy Gillespie's arm over his neck like they had been buddies forever! OMM has always had that effect, I imagine... He has a story where he met Miles too! OMM loves his rock, but he has had a very diverse musical interest.

OK! The cats out of the bag. I love Jazz too....not so much anymore.....too many other things to listen to/watch. I was in the Air Force in Sacramento and a few of us really liked Jazz. I was 18 and didn't know any better and had an idea to put on a Jazz show at the Sacramento State Fairgrounds on a Saturday afternoon. 4 of us started writing people with the idea. Wow, that was 52 years ago. I was lucky and a promoter read my letter. He liked the idea and wrote me back. As they say, the rest is history.

The final name was "BBQ and Jazz on a Saturday Afternoon". Everyone sat on the grass and it went off flawlessly. We had a ton of help from volunteers from the Air Force Base. Dizzy and I got along and he helped with getting others to play. Sorry, it's been too long to remember all the names of the performers that day. Bobby Timmons was on piano, Wes Montgomery was on Guitar, Dizzy, of course, and many more, I can't remember.
The lawn was full of folks....it was great. Being 18, it was a hell of a thing to be part of .
:thumb: Did I make any money? Hell no! That was not the point.

Yep, I did meet Miles one night at the Blackhawk in SF. I was under age and kind of slipped in the door with some black people. Miles stopped playing and muttered something about a piece of rice in a coal mine and pointed to me. Out I went. :high-five:

OMM Wow thats funny a piece of rice in a coal mine...... I've always followed drummers so of course was interested in Gene Kruppa and Buddy Rich

They were 2 of the best...if not the....

i remember watching Bob Seagar,MC-5 and Alice cooper were all local bands and we would see them for 2 dollars at the teen clubs around oakland county mich. use to be a great blues band called the Buick City Blues Band use to jam every sunday night at the otisville hotel.Wonder if they still do? It was great and packed every sunday night.
Hey OMM ....back to music ....heres a little story ....A good friend of mine (Dave) returned from Nam and his friend Scott came to Mi. with him. Scott was originally from the Bay area but for some reason didn't want to go back there. But Scott was really into his music as we all are. He turned me on to great music that I may never have heard of if it wasn't for him. Like ...Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Spirit, Champion Jack Dupree and more that I'll think of later. What obscure, local bands do you remember from that area ?[/QUOTE

They were idols of mine, being the first instrument I fell in love with was the drums. I recall Buddy's signature stage show. His platform would rise off the ground and turn upside down. The whole time he never misses a beat. Kruppa another wonder that died to soon.

Stopped in read up... crashed out. Came back and found me still here :cheesygrinsmiley: it was cool to hear that cut of Joplin. Believe it or not Pink can actually cover Joplin... I was surprised when I saw that in concert

Pink? oh NO

Adele is the closest today to a soulful singer. Pink just don't have what it takes..

But that is just an opinion... nothing replaces the original, the others can only try to reach
Janis crossed musical boundaries as well as mindscapes..

Hey OMM,

Just popped in to catch up...Sounds like you and Jo are doing well. Really glad to hear it :thumb: Always makes life better when you're feeling well.

The girls are beauties ... as always. I see you're supplementing with cfl's. Did you adjust the LED's to veg ? What do you think about those lights now?

Love all the bands/singers mentioned. Agree with smokzalot...adele is really good. Don't listen to any of the new pop stuff out there...just can't get into it. I always go back to the classic rock stations and old Motown along with some reggae ...that's my speed.

Looking forward to the new journal...are you moving these ladies outside to flower? Did I get that right?

Always...much love my friend

If you have not heard her cover Joplin live....well then you are just typing.

edit -- I sound like a fan :cheesygrinsmiley: I went to a concert gratis at a casino for grins. She did a couple bubble gum songs then did a Joplin set... I was F'ing blown away, she did it very well. I gained a new respect for Pink after that.

Well my friend, I bet that we were in the same place at one time or another. I watched the same groups before they made it big. Grand Funk also. Was in a couple classes in school with one of Segers` bandmates. How about Sherwood Forest or the Russelville Ballroom, which is just down the road from Otisville. Sure was great times, made great memories.

Peace & Great Growin`

Hey OMM,

Hi My Lady Buddy!

Just popped in to catch up...Sounds like you and Jo are doing well. Really glad to hear it :thumb: Always makes life better when you're feeling well.

You are right....so much better, when we are feeling good.

The girls are beauties ... as always. I see you're supplementing with cfl's. Did you adjust the LED's to veg ? What do you think about those lights now?

The LEDs are set to what "we", Chronic and I believe to be a veg setting. They still haven't sent the instructions to me. Cronic has a set too. The lights are doing what I expected, growing the plants short and bushy again. They warn not to get them closer than 22 inches.

Love all the bands/singers mentioned. Agree with smokzalot...adele is really good. Don't listen to any of the new pop stuff out there...just can't get into it. I always go back to the classic rock stations and old Motown along with some reggae ...that's my speed.

I still listen to just about anything!

Looking forward to the new journal...are you moving these ladies outside to flower? Did I get that right?

Always...much love my friend

You are correct, all but 3 will be going outside, keeping the Berry Bombs inside and will mess with them to see what I can do to them.

Much love back at you, my Dear Friend.

Hi OMM!

Awesome stories about meeting Dizzy and seeing Miles - "piece of rice in a coal mine!"

Hi X.

That remark was typical of the time. Race wars were happening down south big time. Equality was being fought for all over the country, but down south was the worse. There was one Black Comedian that used to crack me up, here is one of his stories.

One day in Mississippi a black man walked into a white restaurant, set down at the counter and ordered a baked chicken. The owner turned bright red with anger and screamed at the black man, "What ever you do to that chicken, I am going to do it to you!".

Soon the place was packed. The owner brought the baked Chicken to the black man and set it on the counter

The black man picked it up, looked it over, then Kissed it's Butt!.
