If your bearings fit the tie rods properly, and you have springs to keep the plates from binding you'll be just fine. The plates should not need to be very strong in any other direction other than straight down. You may want a steel plate underneath to make sure there are no voids that would allow the plates to move, but I think you're good.I already have the main plates cut and holes tapped. 1/2" x 5"x 9" aluminum. With 1/2" x 13 threads. Hopefully aluminum will be strong enough without much flexing
