Oh No - It's A Green Hole! - Reverse Thrusters! - Dammit - Too Late!

Thanks Vlad. I do think about this subject a lot. I have all the components of a drip feed system, and several pumps leftover from the days I was dreaming of growing Cap'n style. Someday I plan to hook it up to my rainwater system so I can maybe leave town for 2 or 3 weeks at a time. In order to set this up though, I need to be able to be around enough to observe and perfect the system. Kind of a catch 22. I feel pretty comfortable leaving the grow for a week but it's taken me some time to set it up like that.
The peat moss isn't like coco where it can be constantly watered. It takes at least 5 days for my 10 gallon pots to dry out in a wet-dry cycle. If I watered more often I would have issues as the roots wouldn't be getting enough oxygen. Since I can make it to the scene at least once a week- the human powered watering system is working for now.
For a drip-feed system I'd either set it up to water every 5 or 6 days, or more likely switch mediums. Coco would be good. I did buy some coco once with this in mind.
Counterintuitively, real soil would be even better for my purposes. Then I could use water only- and not have to worry about feeding them for weeks. It's easier for me to set up a watering system than it would be to set up a water/feeding drip system, because of ph swings ( I think) and other logistical feeding challenges that I imagine would crop up to cause me trouble.
I'm constantly thinking about stuff like this, at least in the back of my mind. It's hard to make big changes when I'm away so much. The system is working, and since it isn't broken, I'm reluctant to fix it until it is.

I just acquired the entire AN PH perfect coco series. I'll let you know how long it stays stable. Looking good Weasel!
Do tell...

Interesting Weas. I've spent my life in the world of data and numbers. When 'Magic' appears in my systems, it simply means I don't have a grasp of the situation at hand.
There are many 'magical' things I see in the world. When I see them, I sometimes can't even stop myself from digging into the situation to try to understand it.
This is bad. It's not a good way to survive in this world. It's much better to call it 'magic' and move on.
I'll give you a recent example. I roll thru the French Qtr. often on my bicycle. They shut down Royal street and 11am to allow street performers and whatnot to take the street. I was unaware of the shutdown and got pulled over by a cop. Now, mind you, there were no signs indicating the shutdown, and additionally, Royal St. is a bike path street with big bicycles printed on the pavement and many signs indicating the bike route. This caused me to have a discussion with the officer that had asked me to dismount. My objections and discussion led to a 90$ ticket. It was starting to lead to a worse place.... officers in our neck of the woods aren't paid to think or reason for themselves at all.... they just rely of violence of voice and action when even slightly challenged by questions.

I really wish I was a magic kinda person instead of a 1's and 0's kinda guy.
I wish I

Ouch! That's an expensive ride Tead. Now, if you'd been a magic kinda person you wouldn't have gotten a ticket for being in the street performer zone, as you could have suddenly started pulling bunnies out of your hat or monkeys out of your ass or whatever it takes to make cops happy, and then you could have charged him $90.

Ok probably not...

It's been a long day. Been up since 3 o'clock yesterday morning dealing with a bunch of salmon that had to be smoked and whatnot. Managed to get a few pics tonight before the phone/camera iThingy battery died. Maybe I'll just post a little something or other tonight then get my nightly 4.20 minutes of sleep.
Hmmmm... What to post? Well, I meant to get more photos. But at least I got a few, which saves y'all from being tortured by random ramblings about unicorns and Martians and such.
'Thank God' they say...
In spite of feeling stretched a bit thin for time I went through the flowering room tonight and did a bunch of cleanup and pulled all the plants into the left side. The PC with the mold seems to be fine, now that I've got better fan action on it. I figured it doesn't need to be quarantined anymore on one side hogging a 600W light. I squashed them together but I put both HID lights above the group of four plants. I dimmed one of them down to 400W. Looks nice and sunny on that side now.

~MAMA THAI~

Last weekend's pollination worked. Holy crap, it worked a little better than I expected! The two impregnated buds are completely packed to the gills with seeds, as well as some neighboring areas.
I think I've pollinated a few plants in the past with limited success. I've definitely had quite a few accidental pollinations. But I somehow never realized just how fast the seeds grow. This pic shows just the tip of one bud. The whole bud, mostly unshown, is chock full of seeds, along with another bud and...some other buds.
This is six days after her date with Mr Thai Stick.

Here are a few other Mama Thai pics. This is 6 weeks into flowering, about halfway, and the buds should start to fatten soon.

I'm just doing a final honey glaze on this last batch of candied salmon and a little oven drying then calling it a night. Most was smoked un-candied and will be jarred up for the winter. Plenty gets given away.

Bottle of rum not shown, lol.
Lest anyone start getting jealous about the joys of country living- there's this damn squirrel nesting inside my roof! It's rummaging around up there right now as I type....That bugger better be sleeping in late, or things are going to get a mite tense between us.

Can mankind and squirrels exist peacefully? Hmmmm... Tune in next week...

Congrats with the pollination Weaselcracker, looks like you will soon have plenty of seeds to play with there. No more Unicorns? They should be spoken about at least once per day or they vanish, I've seen it on a documentary while I was smoking some 'salmon' myself one night so it must be true. BTW you have a lot of food at the side of your plate of salmon there, I'm glad I'm eating supper or I'd be really hungry looking at that. Watch the squirrel doesn't drop any of his food on your head, it could drive you nuts. I think I need my 420 days sleep here, hibernation times are kicking in for the winter and I'm seeing daylight, way too late. All the best :thumb:

 yeah thanks Kriaze! I'd so love to hibernate. It's not the squirrel that forces me up in the daytime, it's the young weasel!
And the whole damn system, dammit. Why can't people keep more civilized hours?

Wow, that salmon looks delicious. And that seeded bud has convinced me of starting with my own crosses.
And that squirrel... I know many will think this is insane, but when I was a teen we would go and hunt the squirrels, because they ate the macadamia nuts grandma grew; we would then roast them in a fire and eat them with salt and lemon. They are very tasty, the poor little devils. The pelts where used to make goodies, I had a machete cover made with over 12 pelts haha.
Please dont lynch me, I grew in a developing country :(

Aaaaarrrggggghhhhh!!!!!!!!!!
You fluffy little fuck!
You chittering little bitch!!!
Get off my roof now and stop scratching and scrabbling and chattering you pimped out rat or I know two nuts that you're really going to miss you little bastard!!!!!
Ahhhhhh good.
Goodnight.

Candied squirrel,, sounds delish,,,

These particular squirrels have the reputation of not tasting good. I've heard that people down south eat squirrel- the grey squirrels, which are actually black except in the winter. This one is a red squirrel. It is actually brown, though I may be tempted to fix that and make it red. I've never personally attempted to eat one. But I've heard it from enough people to know that it's true and the squirrels know it too and make it abundantly clear that they are not edible by losing any pretense at a properly submissive attitude.
It sensed my mood and moved on pretty fast after it's morning chittering fanfare. I hope it behaves and we can just get along. I don't want to have to change my name to Squirrelcracker

Lots of people in Missouri eat squirrel. One time well heading to visit family i was traveling by bus and a couple of guys a few seats ahead of me were talking about bbq squirrel and how they liked to prepare it lol weirdest thing ive ever heard on a bus lol wish I paid better attention now I could've had a recipe for ya lol

The drip irrigation system is a good idea. I set up one recently, it is gravity fed and saves me a lot of work when watering. I will take some pictures later. There are adjustable flow drippers that help control how much water they get. I used fixed flow drippers, and put a flow valve in the pipe instead. My reservoir is a 5 gal bucket stacked over another 2 buckets (higher elevation of the reservoir gives you more pressure I think). I saw a water flow timer that works on AA batteries, and holds a lot of set timer programs.
You could set up a larger reservoir and adjust the water flow for each individual plant, using the watering system for water only, so you only have to worry about hand feeding.
