WHITE WIDOW

A quick update on this plant, which I harvested tonight. This plant was was always a bit small, and a bit neglected during flowering. I put her into flowering somewhat early, after being underwhelmed with her sister-plant's outcome. I didn't expect too much from her and, while mostly living up to those low expectations, she turned out miles ahead of her problematic sister.

She looks pretty trashed, that's for sure. She could have been harvested a week earlier, it seems. In general she's been fairly healthy though, and almost all of the crispy leaves you see occurred during and after flushing and is a result if the plant basically dying of old age.
At 77 days into flowering, she was where the PC was after 100 days, in terms of ripeness, if not riper. Ripe right down to the smallest pea sized bud.

Sugar leaves were almost all dead. This -along with a texture like gooey candy, made for difficult trimming. 'Luckily' there wasn't very much of it. Only 85 grams wet. This will end up being less than an ounce dried.
I could see this plant being a good strain, with a little more practice and tlc on my part. She looks strong and frosty, and I like the early finishing compared to my other strains. However, I'm itching to shuffle her out of the way to make more for strains closer to my heart- landrace sativas and anything else I think is different and interesting.

You like Thai if I remember well and I'd like to try one of them Thai Sticks to grow or just to smoke, I just don't know how they'd grow here outdoor. But after I pulled of growing Colombian I might give it a try in the future :thumb:

Wheeze,
Deep apologies for missing this. Don't know how this got by me.
Catching up on this journal but wow man! Much respect!
Mama Thai?? The last time I had some thai it was ALL that. One of my all time favs. Never thought to grow a 100% sativa but so glad you did. What's she like?

Congrats Weasel...

Interesting. I would smoke that of course. I see you like sativas the best. Which one is your all-time favorite sativa?

Hey Roach. I have to say that I'm not all that well rounded as a grower and I haven't grown any sativas besides the Mama Thai, and now the attempts at the Thai Stick and Malawi. Previous to last year I mostly grew just two strains, God Bud and a God Bud mystery cross, for 3 or 4 years and kind of plodded along making every mistake possible, till I finally got tired of it, ordered some new seeds and joined 420. In my early growing days I went through about 15-20 different strains, none of them full sativas, and I was severely lacking in information and just working blind, with hit and miss results.
Thai Stick looked like the first 'real sativa' I've grown, the type of sativa that strikes fear into people's hearts with it's crazy growth and stretch period. Mama Thai is much more forgiving.

All the talk about Thai Stick makes me want to sprout some more. First though I will take a hard look at what I have going in right now in terms of flowering space, and try to properly plan things out this time, or I'll probably be having to cull a bunch of plants again.

I'm not even a well rounded sativa smoker, for that matter.
When I first started smoking in the early 80s most herb on the street was Thai or Jamaican sativa. The Jamaican seemed a bit speedy for me sometimes. I like them both but I liked the Thai more. I spent a lot of time in Thailand and have a fondness for the country and it's smoke.

It took me most of my life to figure out that sativa was what works for me. When I first started smoking I think all the the cannabis available was sativa and I really enjoyed it. Then indica strains took over and all of a sudden I couldn't smoke and function well anymore, though I kept trying, Lol. I mostly turned my bud into hash, which I could handle better.

Beautiful little plant has some nice bud formation on there :bravo:

ahhh harvest time is sublime.

Vlad

Love the bottle shots. Funny that you had to fill the bottle to keep it from tipping over from the weight of the plant.

This would make a wonderful painting.

Looking good weasel

Congrats Weasel...

Well done Weasel!

She does look very sticky.

Congrats on the chop Weaselcracker :thumb:

Thanks guys! Sorry I've been a bit swamped lately with life, mostly with late season food harvests, and having to work around the shrinking daylight hours here, as I live fairly far north. Most of my life is lived outdoors, and this time of year we get used to functioning in near darkness.

For some reason I tend to leave my favorite subscribed journals, and my own journal, till last on the catching up list. This may be a bit backwards, but I hate to skim my favorites. Which sometimes means they stay on the back burner even longer than ones I spend less time with.
Yes harvest is so lovely! I look forward to the next one. I wish my flowering room wasn't so empty right now. The White Widow actually looked a bit better in real life than in the pics. I'll see how she smokes and maybe someday I'll be tempted again to use up the rest of my WW seeds.
That's a big wine bottle. The sort of one I would bring out for New Years, which reminds me, I should fill it up with some wine soon. I filled it with water up to the plant stem in the hopes that it would slow down some of the drying while I trimmed. As it was most of those buds were almost dried on the plant. Very sticky, very difficult to trim.
Thanks Roach, the photo does look like good painting material :). And I do like painting. I'll have to be satisfied with photos for the moment because of lack of time. It's funny when you think of all the factors caused by cannabis prohibition. There are still life paintings of every sort of plant, but not many of the beautiful cannabis, outside of headshops and such. Some day it will all be normalized again.

Hey Conradino. As I'm pretty sure you know already, Ace isn't officially selling the Thai Stick strain anymore, though they have some other Thai strains. I do love the Thai a lot. I think I'll sprout another couple TS seeds, once I figure out the available space. Tired of the too many/too few plants-boom/bust cycle I've been going through lately :).
Conradino what is your favorite sativa to smoke?

Wheeze,

Hey Stage. Thanks for visiting. No need for apologies, whether deep or shallow!

The Mama Thai is great. It's not particularly strong, though it supposedly has that potential. I'm pretty sure Seedsman lists it as being up to 25% thc if I remember right. Whether the 3 phenos I have grown so far are just on the weak side, or whether it's my growing method that is to blame, I'm not sure. To be honest though, the medium thc level suits me. I like to be able to smoke as much as I want without suffering ill effects. I am interested in growing some stronger Thai though, because sometimes I want to.... get higher!

The best MT plant I grew was the first one. I meant to reveg it but sadly, forgot and chopped it down, in a stoned harvesting moment. The buds on that one were quite big for a fairly small plant, and it seemed more potent. Oh well...
Originally I was worried about it growing too tall and fast. It's not like that at all though. That first time I grew the MT, I put it into the flowering room at 4" high in a scrog screen. It turned out to be quite thin on the screen. Now I veg much longer and I haven't had any trouble controlling them in a scrog whatsoever.

Here's a pic of that first Mama Thai

The buds grow surprisingly large and clumpy, not stringy at all, and I find them quite beautiful in appearance- very fluffy and white. They are quite airy and once dried they don't weigh much.
I don't think I can describe the smell and flavor. To me it's just like Thai :). So far I can't think any distinct odor I could compare it with. It's definitely more of a peppery herbal grassy smell than a fruity or skunky one.

The high is clear and happy. It's got a sort of trippy hallucinogenic feel to it. It makes me want to get stuff done, and thankfully I feel smart and focused enough to do it. I can smoke as much as I want, and while there's a limit to how high I get with it, I never get burnt out in any way, as I would if I over smoked another strain. If I smoke lots it does keep me awake a bit as I want to stay up doing stuff. But I'm kind of a night owl anyway. I find it's not great for laying around feeling meditative or any sort of lazy activity. It keeps me moving. :)

I definitely prefer sativa bud myself but do not have the room lol i tried growing a bagseed that started out looking a little indica but very soon started acting much like a sativa and so i had to tie that girl down cause otherwise she was always frying herself on the cfls lol.

This would make a wonderful painting.

I was thinking the same thing. Weaselcracker, you've been holding out on us. There's that artist we all suspected was hiding in there somewhere. Let that energy loose more often my friend. This picture is exquisite in its simplicity and layout. I can't give you any more reps. Please accept the hug instead.

How much headroom do you have Lexort? Growing with a scrog, the Mama Thai does almost whatever I tell it to. I usually make about 8 or 10" between the container and screen for operating room but that could be shrunk to near zero if necessary. Bud height above screen is about 8-10", so basically it's the same as any other plant. I think lst instead of a scrog would work fine too. I'm sure you could grow the MT if you wanted. Probably there are other sativas which are also workable, I just don't have the experience to know which ones. As I said- the last photo I posted is of one put into 12/12 at 4" high. It could have been trained and arranged to take up less space than it did.
