Obi's Aurora Indica - Indoor - T5 - Perlite Hempy

I'm still estimating a late December harvest for this AI grow. They have had about four weeks of veg time so far. I'd like to veg for another three or four weeks. I'm not sure why. I don't have a reason for an eight week veg other than that's what my gut tells me to do right now. If memory serves me well this AI plant isn't known for a large yield. Potent, yes. Yield, meh.

I usually agree with "go with your gut" - especially for over thinkers like me LOL. Of course - longer veg, higher yield. But, I've read in a few places that one of the advantages of an indoor grow was the ability to control the advent of flowering stage with the choice as to when to start 12/12. Some, like me, have height constraints to consider. If you know you're going to run low on meds, you have a choice to gain meds sooner, but give up some potential yield. But, you probably already knew that LOL

:Namaste:

I have the grow box open this evening. Here are a few gratuitous pics. The first is a nicely seasoned Arizer Solo stem loaded with some NL from the last grow. This is the start of my late evening, get ready for bed routine. The remainder are a few shots of the plants as they currently look.

Looking great Obi Wan, question: On your chart you show GH--grow, micro & bloom, is that all your using just those three nutrients?

Looking great Obi Wan, question: On your chart you show GH--grow, micro & bloom, is that all your using just those three nutrients?

Hi 60cal,

Aside from a little supplemental CalMag, yes, all I have been feeding them is the GH Flora Trio. Nothing more. I've been following their recommended Simple Drain to Waste schedule but I'm only using the three base nutrients. Currently I'm repeating week 3 full strength until I flip to 12/12. I've been running a [feed][feed][water] routine so far as well.

This AI seems to be handling the full strength nute level well. I think they could handle additional supplements like RapidStart and KoolBloom but I feel pretty happy with the vigor, color and general appearance of all three plants so far. I'm going to try to keep this grow as simple and repeatable as possible.

Cheers!

I've been a little under the weather :/ The pictures above are an example of what happens when you do not feed or water your perlite/hempy potted plants for eight days.

Sad, wilted, paper-like leaves. Abnormally early and aggressive leaf fade working from the bottom up. Signs signalling the plant is rapidly drawing the last remaining stored nutrients out of it's reserves.

I hit them with a feeding at about 1am this morning. I will try to update with a pic when I get home. I'm not overly concerned about the lower leaf fade. I'm pretty confident in my diagnosis and am anticipating 90% of the plant will recover. The remaining 10% is likely to be trimmed before scrog anyway.

The eight inch carbon filter arrived. It is huge >.<

I still need to get it installed. I'm a little intimidated by the job due to the filter size and weight. It's gonna be a pain.

/Obi Wan

Damn Obi, sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Here's hoping you shake it off and start feeling better.

8" filter eh? that's diameter I take it. What brand? CFM?

Hey Gov, thanks for the kins words.

I'm not 100% sure about the CFM rating of this filter. I looked at a bunch in a hurry and if I recall the one I have here is the Virtual Sun house brand. It measures 12" x 32" with the reducer on it and I still need to account for the fan length and ducting. I'm hooking it up to a 450CFM 6" fan with a 6" filter already at the exhaust end.

Here are the girls tonight. They are looking a little more chipper.

Since you've motivated me to start a hempy grow, I'll burden you with the random questions.
I've got 3 Crit+ hempy clones going in small plastic pots. They're about 3 days since cutting from mothers. So far, they look fine.
I see in your logs that your seedlings really took stride around day 20. One assumes that's when the roots hit water.
I'm trying to determine the timing of my replanting from the cloning pots into their 5 gallon grow pots.
Do you think I should replant as soon as the roots hit the water in the bottom of my clone pots, or should I wait a bit longer so that the roots of the clone can reach the grow pot water after replant?

I hope you are feeling better :peace: girls looking good :MoreNutes: So have you decided when to flower?

Thanks Grow jr! I'm going to switch to flowering schedules in about two weeks on the 25th. That will put the plants at about the eight week mark for veg. I'm going to give them a one week 12/12 "transition" period where I will continue to count days as veg and then start counting flower on Oct. 1.

I'm pretty naive when it comes to clones. My initial response would be not to wait too long to re-pot. They do not need to be mature enough to hit the bottom of your 5gal after transplant. The roots will seek out the reservoir they just know is there. A couple wet/dry cycles will send them on their way? I have no experience to back that up, lol.

Cheers!
