After seeing thebeasts happy girls under a hps i thought id add one to the mix , luck has it that i found an old barn light i cut it down to a smaller size an wired my ballast to it , its 400 watts so just nice , i can put my oil heater on the timer half hour before lights off and lights on and use the light (hps) as my heat source day time ... :thumb:

I believe it needs to be a bit closer, I run my 1k at 1050 watts about 18" above plants. 400 watt light could be within 8 or so inches.

Cheers

hi, i have seedlings in there a week old so im keeping it there until the get up a tad :) thanks for the tip tough

Extra light does mean bigger bills but also means bigger and tighter buds. Extra weight will offset the cost of the lights.

Next week I start my beans. Am tempted to go sonner but am patiently holding off. Need to wait for last ground frosts to stop so that they can be safely transplanted outdoors. Also need to make sure temps are ok outside when i start to harden off. After that there will only be updates every 10-14 days but there will be posta from time to time i will imagine. Wish me luck guys and gals and hope that we get a good warm cloudless summer.

Well i will be happy with an oz per plant. 2 oz would be well sweet, 3 would be uber cool. Only problem with 3oz per plant is trimming 48oz and then having to dry it. Luckily my mate has a pal's house we can use to trim and then dry, he will just want a wee bit of smoke for using his place. It will take a whole day to trim that amount. Also need to be careful on the roads to get it there. Will take routes where there no polis. A boot full of fresh weed will need careful planning to get it up the road. Once it done and dried then it easier once in the jars ready for curing.

Eh, if your growing outside I think you mean a few pounds per plant not oz. Outdoor auto grows get 3 harvest per season and 1 to 2 lbs each. You should be fine. Here is my Auto AK which went 81 days, indoor grow.

Not sure how you can only get few oz per plant outside.

Cheers

1lb = 16oz. Autos will not produce that amount of bud. Photos will if vegged long enough. Even with a fantastic summer, perfect soil, using correct nutes, and getting everything else right i dont think an outdoor auto could produce anymore than 5 or 6 ozs. A 16 oz outdoor auto would blow my mind and i think others would agree.

I can only get out to my sites once every 2 weeks. Going once a week or even more often is meaning more chance that you will be seen and me and my mate dont have the time to get out more often either. If we wanted to get another 2 harvests then plants would need to be outside just now. Am thinking of getting them done during the height of summer with the longest days too. Shorter days mean less light and less bud.

How much dry weight did you pull off that auto ak? Looks like it has been topped and lst'd too. Much easier to do those things indoors and if you know how. I am gonna top my plants just the once on advice from the beast but will leave some untopped to see the difference with my own eyes and also to see how much weight difference there is as well.

Besides i am looking at being realistic. 1 oz per plant - yes, 1lb per plant - nae chance. 2 oz is doable as well. No point in having high expectations just in case, would put a dampener on things. This is my 2nd outdoor grow so not setting my sights too high. Perhaps I may do that in the future when i know what to expect. Last year was a huge learning curve for me.

One top, no LST. My grow guys get 1 to 2 lbs outside, they get 10 to 12 lbs off photos (all summer grow) I'll get some pix. But with the sun you get large plants. Here in PNW at least. It might have to due with weather. I'm hoping for 4 to 5 zips of my AK. Very dense buds. I'd aim high but I've learned quite a bit in my first 3 grows and have a dialed environment.

Cheers

10-12lbs per plant!?! Are they getting fed steroids or something? Have heard that some plants will yield a couple of kg but not more. I have seen some outdoor monsters on the internet that stand around 3m tall and are around 3m wide. They would prob yield the no's you mention of 10-12lbs.

Here the sun is not that strong - am up in bonnie scotland, uk. Also seeing the sun is something of a rareity. We occasionally get a really good summer with temps hitting 30°-36°C but mostly we sitting mid-high 20's for the best part of summer. Over in washington you will have substantially good weather so good big grows are possible. I assume if you tried to grow in Seattle you'd likely end up with piles of mush? It rains more there than it does here, lol.

Once i get a few grows under my belt, know how to keep nature at bay and a whole load of other factors then i can start to aim higher. At the end i am looking for enough smoke to last me a whole year and with the trim and popcorn to give me a whole whack of bubble hash. The longer the bubble is untouched the better it becomes. Look forward to your pics although best check with nutty if he doesnt mind them on his thread. I'm ok with them on mine.

Grizzwald has a journal here with >10 lbs plant at end of season. Being in UK it now makes sense. I pay $0.065 per KWH and run 1050 watts bare bulb. That is where size comes from. LED lighting is great for development but not much for size unless you have one per plant. If you are 500 watts or less on HID or under 300 LED watts it's hard to yield large plants. Look up Grizzwald journal, it's an eye opener. My guys run 4 to 5 plants that size plus autos.

Cheers
