My point is we are in a time where it seems people are looking for reasons to be "offended". I have two examples since I was at Physical Therapy and since I got home.
First one was at therapy. Now understand I have been going to the same PT place for about a year. Some of the other patients have been going for a while as well. We develop a relationship with our therapists. Well there was an old dude there, in his 80s and his therapist is a cute girl in her late 20s. They have a banter back and forth type of relationship. Well today she was talking to someone and he jokingly said "Jessica, you talk to much....just shut up". Now for those of us that have been going to therapy and know those two, know that he is playing. Well apparently there was a bitter middle aged woman that feels she needs to get involved in everything going on approached the old guy and laid into him. Again, none of her freaking business, both the old guy and Jessica were laughing, but the bitter bitch (yes I have seen her for a few months and she is always in a foul mood and complaining about someone) is going off on the 80+ year old man. She berated him, called him rude, a sexist, he should be ashamed of himself and how she was so offended by his comments. Now for the life of me, I can't figure out how the 'sexist' comment made its way in there. I can see how someone who might not know their relationship might think it was mean and maybe ask her if she is ok, but I don't get her exploding, yelling, berating him and calling him sexist over a joking relationship they have. I had all I could do to keep my mouth shut towards her.
Now fast forward to 15 minutes ago, I walk in from therapy, sit down, turn on the news and low and behold another case of ridiculous "offensiveness". Apparently there is a backlash against a Doctor Suess mural in public because.....get this......Doctor Suess had a chinese looking character in a book published back in the 1970s and they are twisting that Dr. Suess is.....get this....racist. He has to be because he had a character that had 'chinese' eyes. I mean really??? Come on people. Those books were written almost 50 years ago. This culture of just looking for reasons to be offended and label people as 'ists' is just so out of control. How do you take any of this serious anymore??
