Noob's First Grow: Indoor, Coco, 4 Plants

Hey everyone,

The harvest from the three photogirls is safely tucked away in the fridge. Each day I got in and rearrange all the buds so that they get some fresh air and don't develop any damp or moldy spots. So far so good. They are definitely drying/shrinking, but it has only been six days or so. I added some humidity meters to each tray, and will start watching for something around 60-65%, with 62% being the bullseye.

A bit of a side project update. A buddy swapped me a huge branch of Barney's Cookie Kush from his outdoor grow for a few nugs of my Purple Kush that I harvested back in June. I mentioned that I wanted to take another run at cloning, and he wanted to try my first harvest (he liked it!).

I got six nice cuttings from the huge branch he gave me, and they have been percolating away in the bubble-cloner I built using @Dutchman1990's design. They went into the cloner on July 22, so they have been there for almost two weeks now. Not much happened for a long time - they didn't wilt or anything, stayed standing straight up, but no roots. Then about five days ago, the leaves started to yellow. I understand that this is from the plant drawing nutrients from the leaves in order to make new roots. Two days ago I saw some little bud-like bumps on the stem in the tank.

Here they are today. Holy root-central! (sorry about the purple light)…

I am going to swap out the nute solution that is currently in the tank, and back off the rooting hormone a bit, and make it more of an early veg solution (very diluted). Will give the tank a scrub while I am at it. I am going to keep only the healthiest one or two of these clones, and tuck them away as bonsai moms for a while. I'll see if I can re-gift any others to happy homes.

Woohoo :bravo:
Glad to see it worked out well for you!! Them roots are looking well on their way to giving you some extra healthy clones! Well done!

Nice roots...congrats! I remember reading somewhere that first roots in hydro should get bloom nutes as grow nutes are too high in N for new roots.

Thanks Shed... that is good to know. I'll do a bit more research on it. I just did a clean up job on the reservoir, and used a diluted blend of Micro, Bloom, B52, and Rapid Start, so treating them more like seedings than anything. Appreciate the suggestion.

Thanks Dutch - yes, your video was really helpful in getting me set up!

Thanks T! How are you doing these days?
I'm good thanks mate other than just working, not really had many chances to come visit anyones grows in the last few days but will get around to it how's yourself mate?

I hear that! It was a long weekend here (Monday off) so enjoyed a little down time with Mrs. Bard. Back at the grind again tomorrow. Hope you are able to get a little time for yourself soon.

It goes back to what the nutrients are used for...
Nitrogen: foliage
Phosphorus: roots, buds, and flowers
Potassium: overall vigor, buds, flower, seeds
So clones or cuttings need the extra phosphorus found in bloom formulations to help develop the roots.

Thanks Salt. That makes a lot of sense.

The three photo girls (GSC, Trainwreck, and Green Crack) have been in the fridge since 7/30/19, so 11 days. I rearranged the buds a couple of times each day for the first several days, and daily for the past few. On day 7 of drying, I pulled out all the trays from the fridge, took them out of the paper bags, and let the buds come up to room temperature, just for an hour or two. They are warming up again now. From what I have read on the "low and slow" thread, this warm-up helps to get the breakdown of chlorophyll going again, as it slows way down in the cooler fridge temperatures. Once they are up to temp, I am going to put a handful of each cultivar in glass jars to measure RH. The rest of the material will go back in the fridge overnight. I don't think they are quite done yet, but we'll see what RH says tomorrow morning. Once I hit 65%, it will all go into glass jars to start the curing phase.

On a different topic, my Cookie Kush clones are cranking out the roots. They were very slow in getting started, but seem to be taking off now. I got six cuts from the branch a guy swapped me (for some of my Purple Kush). All of them now have roots, but some are definitely more vibrant looking than others. I think I will cull the weakest two, keep two for myself, and see if I can give two away to a good home. The two I keep will be tucked away for a while - low light, low nutes. My plan is to use a one-gallon fabric pot with coco.

Maybe I'll re-clone one again, or maybe I'll flower out one of them at some point. Not sure exactly, but it is a cultivar that I would like to try.

Crazy roots - I think I added too much rooting hormones to the solution in the bubbler:

Doing great, thanks. Hope you are too. Was catching up on your journal last night. Looking really good.

Thanks Slider!

Hope you are gearing up for a great weekend.

Yes sir! You know, funny thing! The feeling of not having to wake up for work tomorrow is much, much better then the day off it’s self! :goof:

Yep, Saturday's are daddy daughter days, I’m sure I’ll need to take recycling in as well, because I guess I do that on Saturday’s now too! Then off to the park, maybe.. weather permitting.

Hope you have a great weekend bard!
