Nicky Goes To Mars: Test Of Mars Hydro FC4800 & Mars Tent

Day 9 for the girls. Mimosa x Orange Punch and Red Hot Cookies didn't like that I turned up the power of the light too high. I thought I set it to 60%, but I had set it a bit higher than that. Now it's set to 60% and I moved the two plants into the corners where the light is less intense. It's nothing to worry about, though. I've had it before and they always seem to grow normally after the light is dimmed a bit.

So, it's getting crowded in my tent. I finally got the seeds that initially were sent 2 months ago. They're for a contest and the strain is Dark Phoenix. The problem is, my tent is now full. I was planning on having only 4 plants in my tent. Now I have shitloads! Most will be moved, though.
I germinated 2 seeds for the contest and I'll keep the one that grows the best. They're in soil + Perlite because I have to use the nutrients they sent me. It's powdered stuff you mix with the soil or apply as top dressing. Otherwise I'd use coco for sure.

3 of the "give-away plants" were ready for topping today. The rest will need another day or 2.

Hey @Modest Grower , good to have you here.
Yes, I agree with you. I'm stoked with the new setup! :cheer:

Here are all the girls as of yesterday. And today I topped a few of them; 2 of my soil plants got quadlined, and I also started the manifold on Red Hot Cookies and Sweet Cheery Pie. The 4 give away plants will all be topped at node 4, and have node 1 removed, leaving 6 main branches.
The second pic shows Red Hot Cookies that is currently quadlined with nodes 1 and 2 removed. Node 3 will be removed when it's a bit bigger tomorrow.
As you might see the coco plants show some unhappy leaves. This is due to me using ordinary nutes, and not coco specific. I'm using up what I've got and will order coco nutes when I run out of these. I reckon they'll be alright in the end anyway...

So, due to some unforeseen circumstances I haven't been able to take very good care of my girls. All my coco plants have been quite unhappy. Heat and bad food caused it. Now I'm trying to rescue them. I gave them some more leg room today with 11 liter fabric pots.

The 4 soil plants are doing ok. I'll let the C-99 and the Diesel grow a bit more before transplanting them into larger pots. They'll probably get 11 liter white plastic pots since they'll go outside later.

The 4 give a way plants have been moved to their new owner. I'll probably need their space in the tent soon enough.

Sorry to hear about the bump in the road, you'll get them back on track! You mentioned heat, have you moved the driver outside of the tent?

I was considering moving the driver outside the tent when I first installed everything. But I think it would actually get worse. The tent sucks the air in from the room where it's located. If I put the driver outside the tent, it will heat the air in the room, so all the heat from the driver will go back into the tent.
If I keep the driver inside the tent, the hot air will get extracted - hopefully before heating the tent up too much. I extract the air through a window. I have added 2 fans that are directed upwards towards the light and driver. I'm thinking it'll push most of the heat upwards towards where the air is being extracted from the tent. I've also been thinking about moving the driver up next to the exhaust duct to suck the hot air straight out, but so far the driver hasn't been very hot at all. The light hasn't been on full power yet, I just increased the dimmer to about 70%, and I'm trying to stall the plants in veg until the worst heat is over. That's why I am manifolding this grow. Flowering in heat like this sucks, and I try to minimise the heat stress.
Today I have 31 degrees C at the canopy in the tent. It's not too bad considering the ambient temperature in the room is 28 degrees.
I have set the dark period to between 12:00 - 18:00 to keep the temps with light on lower. It gives me a shitty high night temp, though, but it's better.

Hi pal can I ask a quick question ... what is the purpose of removing node 1,2,3 .. noob grower here and wanting to learn

Hi @Fatlad,
Removing all nodes below the top node after a topping will leave you with only two remaining shoots. These two shoots will form the base of the manifold. The way I'm making them I'll get 8 branches that should be uniform in size and look. I'm hoping to get 8 massive colas from each plant.

This plant has been topped twice and it's waiting for a third topping. After that she'll be ready to start growing those 8 colas. This was the unhappiest of my plants and she is a bit behind. The others have been topped already.

And here is how the rest of the plants are looking. They are all happy thankfully. The leaves are looking good and plants are bushing out well. I've done a bit of training.
The larger plants in black pots are the coco girls. They have all been manifolded. The soil plants are all quadlined, and so far the tent is large enough for them all. We'll see when the first one will have to go outside...

Cheers @Squiggle ,
It's still pretty hot here. I have 30-31 degrees when the lights are on. I give the girls 6 hours of night in the afternoon between 12:00 and 18:00 to stop the tent from getting even hotter. It doesn't give the girls very cool night temps, but it's still much better this way. I'll hold off flowering for as long as I can for temp reasons. I want some cooler temps before the buds start getting sticky. I've had buds that lost almost all smell due to flowering in too high temps before. We don't want that...

Sorry for the late reply mate. I must have overlooked the notification..
I've never faced high temperatures at flower and I genuinely didn't know they lose the smell when ifs hot. What temperatures do you prefer at flower

Unfortunately it's something I rarely can achieve, but if I could choose I'd have 25 degrees at daytime and 20 degrees at night time. Possibly a little bit lower night temps like 18 if I had some purple strains I'd like to get maximum colours off.

The other day I was moving my outdoor plant Sugar Black Rose to follow the sun. If I move her I get like 3 hrs of direct sunlight per day instead of 1. While carrying her I get my nose pushed into the buds, and as I always do I was taking a good whiff of her beautiful smelling buds and... nothing!!! She didn't smell one bit! I was in shock! Yesterday she smelled fantastic! I tried to smell some other herbal plants in my garden, and not one plant had any smell at all. i ran around the house and smelled everything strong I could think of - detergent, the coffee jar, and finally the smelliest stuff I have - I stuck my nose all the way into my container of the smelliest Jack Herer imaginable - IT SMELLED NOTHING!!!! I've got the freakin' virus - Feck!!!!

Here's the no-smelling plant at the end of week 6

No way!!! Have you lost your taste as well mate? I really hope that you haven't got it.. have you had your jabs?
Beautiful plant though mate. I can smell her from here
Fortunately those temperatures are normal for me.. we might get the odd heatwave, but nothing drastic.
Really hope you don't have the virus.. take care though and keep us updated mate

Yes, unfortunately I've got Covid.
After queueing for 3 weeks to get my first vaccination shot I was told I had to be registered as a resident here in Spain to get the shot. I am still registered in Sweden so they wouldn't give me the shot. And now I'm sitting here pretty sick and pissed off at the Spanish health system.

Here are the tent girls 2 days ago before I gave them 36 hours of light before the switch to 12/12.

And yes, most of my taste is gone as well, but I think that comes from the lack of smell. I can taste sweet, salty, bitter, and sour, but no more.
I decided to make some infused oil and give my lungs a bit of a rest. I roasted 100 grams of buds in the oven, and have then had the buds soaking in warm coconut oil on my stove top for 48 hrs. I, of course, smelling nothing, but I'm sure my neighbours are impressed by my cooking skills by now...
I made one jar of CBD oil and one jar of Jack 47 which is mainly Sativa. I'll make one more with some Indica buds later.
