Nick Hardy's Skunk Works #4 Mars Hydro FC Evo 12x OG Kush Solos 4x4 - Viva Voce Grow

Congrats on finally getting (and hanging and standing in the middle of) that light! Great review, and I 100% guarantee it would have gotten to you sooner if some clown hadn't stuck a big red HOLD sticker on it. :thumb:

Teak woulda been better, but probably not worth disassembling the furniture for.
I bought myself a new teak table top for Christmas - that glass top cracked in the sun a few weeks back needed replacing. Thinking about asking them to make me a 48 solo cup sized pot holders, like Cola Monster has.

How is it going @NickHardy

Glad to see your light finally showed up.
With everything you went threw, it might be easier to go get it your self next time.

How get those girls into flower.

Be safe and grow well my friend,
Tok..
Hey Tok! Thanks for stopping by! I saw you reading through last night and made my heart glad!

Oh but I made a drama out of the delivery stuff, eh?

😅

Ultimately I got an awesome discount on something I was probably gonna buy anyway! It arrived in time for Christmas (unlike my bonus, I'm gonna be going full Clark Griswald tomorrow! Though really, a swimming pool in the suburbs of Chicago?! Who does that?) @Azimuth and I catching up in the new year at Wally World so that's something.

Yeah the plants looking pretty cool. Go the humidity up a bit again this morning. First time its been too dry in a grow for me ever!

Just bought a new 4x4 as @Mars Hydro have a 50% discount on, gonna clone some of these when we top, there some taller phenos I like the look of.

Topping the 35 in the 8x4 today, some of those worth a clone as well.

the endless river...

Have a lovely Sunday Christmas Eve (or day if today is the main event in your neck of the woods!)

Be nice x

Yeah pretty much killed them earlier 🤣

They’re dying of thirst. The coco had shrunk inside the pot and detached so dried out were they.

Easy fix. Watered them.

The lone Persian Pie that’s much you get is praying, she gets about 75ml a day off the syringe.

These were getting 200ml a day (into a 400ml pot, that’s a big ratio)

Think they’re saying - we want feeding twice a day.

Backed the light off a touch anyway. Don’t want them needing to try too hard

Oops.

The dry ice seems to have expired. 550 PPM now. Gonna take the lid off the box and let them have at the dregs tomorrow.

Probably leave them here another few day with the boss private light.

Really lovely little plants. They’re just autos. Don’t hate 😂

Topping the 8x4 tonight. Flipping Wednesday.

Back to the 4x4

This is the horror show from an hour ora so a go. Falling over wilting. Like fancy spinach. Popeye.

I didn’t so much as touch a plant. Not so much as a leaf. Nothing.

Hit the blue button and watered them.

Look at that improvement!

I think I can confirm watering plants improves their looks.

😂

Merry Crimbo,

Me and the Lad having a bowl of kief when he’s topped the other 35 plants.

Much love from a family affair.

Like it never even happened!
Yeah and your head tells you when you see the medium so dry, detached from the pot sides,

A) Oh I’m an idiot - been thinking about when they’d need breakfast as well as lunch / the day after bumping the PPFD under a new light probably should have been more eyes on

B) They’ll perk right up with some water.

But your heart is in your mouth and sad and panicky.

Meh.

Better underwatered than over watered.

I think its actually amazing how little water they really need, at least to survive. I've got house plants I haven't watered in weeks that still look fine. Not growing all that much, but hey,
My “haha” response was made me think of Shed and my blasé not feeding the outdoor do si dos I killed

Just made me laugh 🤣

I think when we’re growing 1 metre high plus plants in coco (actually its just me, & Co not quite on the same page yet!)

They're 16oz totally standard size. I think Bill at one point thought they were bigger - we do have some giant ones but a different grow these are 400ml - same as the hermied ones under the 1000w HPS DE in this very tent.

There was a chat somewhere else here. Me and another member were riffing on “where does the coco go?”

I posted a pic of the rootball from my first solo cup grow (in a SIP!) the coco just gets flushed out I think.

The fibres just breakdown and go out with run off leaving space for more and more roots.

So why probably we can make small pot sizes work is its a style actually closer to flood/drain ebb/flow DWC type growing.

400ml pot but 300ml of roots? How much more volume of roots do you really get in 5 gallon airpot?

So yes they need feeding twice a day. Sort of. Pot sized bets - if you ever played PLO that’s quite funny. Omaha FTW 😂

But its 400ml a day not the 3000ml a day my 5g’s need.

I dunno.

I’m pursuing the small pot theory as is evident!

Higher pot / feed ratio but higher root to pot size ratio too.

Sorta like Rh and Temp with VPD. Similar ratios I reckon.

🤣

& Co does like the money saving though!

Oops. Forgot to water this morning 😅

Day #59/80 for these two.

Autumnal.

They got fed this morning and this evening.

We never get yellow like that. Think because we’re so low on EC compared to notmal.

The rest still not topped.

Not happy. No more weed The Lad until its done.

IMG_9502.jpeg

I might have had a few cross words earlier.

Been saying for a few days, top and water more. He’s not doing it to run off because the vacuum not been near that tent.

Also the Mars Hydro inline that serves(d) this tent with a variable speed thing expired in a cloud of smoke. It happens. It can fixed. The replacement Chinese thing has no variable. Max or nothing. Its a touch too strong. Its really negative pressure and dry in there.

Water lying around from run off would be really handy for that dryness

Also topping. Need topping. In the morning so we can up pot and flip all of them this weekend. They are looking really raggedy the last two days. Canoeing, edged.

They’re being watered and neemed now.

The neeming isn’t really required but a bit of skin on moisture probably not a bad thing and umm - The Lad’s biz is that tent. He has been asked to water more for a few days. Mixing 5 Gallons of Neem on Christmas night?

As my mother says “Well Son, worse things happen at sea!”

🤣

Gosh I’m an awful parent 😅

Meh he just put water in the trays.

I neemed and watered them.

The other two tents always have water in the tray. I don’t vacuum the run off unless its going to overflow. It won’t always because we like 70-80% Rh early in the grow and we have the Big Boy DeHuey in the circuit.

So I neemed them (gosh the smell reminds be of my Granddad’s allotment and my Mums greenhouse. I keep meaning to ask if she knows what Neem is.

I watered one half to what I estimate is about half required - the autos are the same pot size and been getting watered by hand last few days a d & Co did the other half. I can see which ones I want to cull but they have a few days to perk up

Be fun to get the flower room fired up again.

All 2130w of it ❤️

So 18” ish. 40-50cm. This is a taller one. I’m thinking of cloning some. Not sure we have space.

IMG_9534.jpeg

They got watered this morning. They’ll get watered again this evening. The one went on tour is the one front right. Easiest to get to. I think I’m gonna spread them out properly, top them and tidy up the irrigation. Well The Lad can do the irrigation pipes 😅.

Its OG Kush so most say 90-120cm. Some 1.6m. Seedstockers don’t give heights which is weird. Ours were about 140cm in 5 Gallon pots. 110-120cm would be perfect here. I think we can flip at the weekend and get that. & Co wanted to top them this morning. She had her Demon Barberess eyes on them!

Went and got herself a big iced coffee and 30 minutes later done! Topped and defoliated ready for up pot and flip at the weekend. There are some not looking great. As well as watering issues they are too big now for 35 plants in an 8x4! Maybe they need up potting sooner. There’s a Bruce Banner with the same failing branches as the one in the last grow. I think we might scrape back the bark and tape it rather than amputation. It must be strain related - last time was RQS these are free Seed City. Same pheno. Ugly node spacing. 18 best go upstairs. 12 stay here in 3 gallons.

Soon, soon.

Day #42 since popped.

IMG_9561.jpeg

Didn’t think we’d been going as long as this. 40-45 days and they’re tiny. The big girls are 50 Days and 1.5m tall 🤣

These haven’t the same light or gas as those until recently though. We’ll be flipping soon. Cost an extra week of veg I suppose. (big girls Day #8 of flower)

So they’ve had two feeds today. Both 3 minutes. The drippers are measured to 2 litres an hour. x12 plants but two drippers a plant.

2 litres in an hour flow for 3 minutes x 2 drippers x two feeds

2000ml/20 = 3 min
Therefore one dripper = 100ml
Two drippers = 200ml
Twice a day = 400ml

The solos are 16oz which is 473ml

Call them 450ml because they aren’t brimmed with medium.

They are taking near a full pot volume a day.

When I say we water to run off I mean as soon as I see the first drops out of all the pot bottoms that’s it. Water flow off.

Relative to the pot size that amount of liquid just doesn’t seem like a traditional coco grow.

Nick and musings!

Such a green colour too. Think I’ll max the light in a minute too.

Just ‘cause as is well documented I’m a bad dad, children, dogs and plants watch out! 😂

Day #60 Since Popped

Pretty sure!

IMG_9569.jpeg

Bit of overkill having them under a @Mars Hydro FC6500 730w light at 3” maybe. But a lot overkill was if I could have balanced one of the other FC6500 folded in half to act as extra light on the sides.

I tried a few days back. But wasn’t stable enough 🤣

Means 2-3 weeks apparently. , but they are really at The Chunkening now. No sign of needing support. Watered 3 times today. But yeah Autos can deliver!

Colours too. Maybe just underwatered a bit. But also getting it cold for us over night. Seen as low as 16c Sub optimal but people like it in pictures. One time I get more than one vote in POTM 😂

Topped.

Loads on like node 8, 9 or 10.

I didn’t get to water them until midday and they’d all fallen over with thirst again.

Waited an hour and they were all perked up so it was off with their heads!

Then watered then again a moment ago (6PM)

I reckon I’ll try another water at say midnight. Shits and giggles. See what they take a couple of hours before light's out at 2am. Flipping as soon as tomorrow. Maybe the weekend. Friday night, perhaps to 0800-2000 lights on. Or!

Just thought! @ReservoirDog likes 36 hours of lights off at flip. I could try that.

He reckons it speeds up the change to flower mode with the hormonal boost.

@Keffka - you’re the hormonal student of hormones guy! 😅 Have you ever tried the same? Sounds plausible to me.

Seems very unlikely and like you’d handicap the plant at the worst time. The way plants transition into flower involves the phytochrome red and far red. Once it has measured this change in darkness (which it does the very first night you flip when indoors. It’s more gradual outdoors with changing seasons) the hormones begin to shift, but nutrient requirements shoot up almost instantly. When nutrient requirements shoot up your plant needs a way to photosynthesize this because it only stores up so much for use before it needs more. This is why so many growers see deficiencies within 2-3 weeks of switching to flower because there isn’t enough stored up to carry the plant through and it needs more than it has available. So right when your plant needs to be on its game the most, you cut off its energy source.

Now, this is all based on my current knowledge of plant growth. I’ve just now begun to research the specific hormones and their processes. @ReservoirDog may know things I don’t or may be a bit more ahead of the curve on it. I don’t think I’m wrong, but I’m also not the kind of person who learns something then refuses to learn anything new. The whole point of science in my mind, is to constantly learn and adjust to new information, not treat it like it’s going to kill my family.
