Newbie First Grow - Outdoors - Bag Seeds

Lilred,
I'm sorta in the same financial situation as you are. So what I did was use a 50/50 mix of aged cow poop & Ma. native top soil. Heaping pick up load was $30 and top soil was free. I dug 3 ft. wide, by 3 foot deep hole and replaced clay soil with the mix. Planted 20 inch plants on 6/1. Cow poop compost make a great tea also. Only thing I've given them so far is high N bat poop, and all purpose organic ferts. I put about 2 shovels of compost in a 5 gal bucket and stir that for a day or so, and then water my plants with it.
We don't get all that muggy stuff up here in Ma. !! But we got a very short grow season. Some yrs. we get frost in late august !! And to be safe we must wait till about 6/1 to plant outside. We've had snow in may before !! LOL !! Sucks sometimes, but I love it !! helicopter hovered close to my spot today, and that sucks !! Hope your grow is successful and if there's anything I can help with, I will. That black 5 gal bucket is gonna bake your roots. Do you know anyone that can get you some burlap bags !! Those heavy fabric shopping bags with the handles will work much better than the black bucket. Much better !! When you get to where you can purchase fabric grow pots, I suggest the 25 gal. size for a photo plant. Never grew an auto ?
Heirloom is very knowledgeable when it comes to organic gardening, and if he's on your side, I'd say your plants are in good hands !! Good luck !!

Betsy day 1. I think she popped out yesterday cuz she look more like day 2. I did not go in the garden yesterday. But at 6 am I saw her. She is my candy kush.

If the bucket is going to cook the roots what do I do now. And I am ready to set up another one. How do I protect the roots.

Getting plenty of rain here. I sprayed the plants in neem oil not really expecting the rain. When the rain stops will it be ok to do another treatment?

Also do know of any growers that germinated their seeds directly in the ground? I would like to talk to them. I am thinking maybe some extra screen material I have put up over the spot to keep the sun from burning here when she comes out the ground. Mine grow so much better when I plant them and this is an auto candy kush I want to plant.

Hey lilred, just wanted to chime in I'm obviously not an experienced grower but out of my two girls I have growing one was geminated using the paper towel method one was sown directly into the dirt, to me the lady that was put directly into the dirt is by far superior to the other. Now this could simply be a matter of better genetics but the overall growing process has gone much smoother it seems.

I think the plant I split is male. It will probably show balls later today or tomorrow. When I pull it out the ground I am going to put the bucket in the ground and then deal some fabric around the rest that is out of the ground. I am going to cover the top with lace fabric so muted sunlight gets thru until it is hardened.

Thoughts?

Dude I love how Johnny law gets all jacked up to scoop up a few plants. They wear full military gear with AR-15's. They do a low flyover then jump out and form a perimeter around the plants as if there is a heavily armed militia about to attack them. then they rip all the plants out of the ground weigh the plant root ball and all and give each other high fives like children.

Here they like to put the raid in the paper and they always make the claim they removed xxx$'s worth of drug. The funny part is xxx always = 10x's street value.

Five of my six outdoor pots are black and sit either on my wood deck or on a utility trailer bed. I'm not sure I've had a problem with my roots overheating. Everything seems healthy. We've had plenty of 95* days with more coming. Perhaps the size of my pots (25 gallon) have kept the roots cool?

In a pot that size, yeah, there is going to be a cooler core. But there is probably a ring of baked soil zone a couple inches in from the pot sides.

Where I live, it gets hot.. Black pots are the norm.. Just got to keep an eye on them.. As long as they don't get too dry, they should be fine..
Direct sunlight is one thing but in summer, heat is heat.. The plants will adapt, with a little help.. You could use other potted plants to shield the pots from direct midday sun placing them immediately adjacent....

DEA raids are a bunch of adrenaline junkies that like guns and helicopters (I do as well) but they believe with every inch of their souls they are better than you. I wish no harm on them and they come home to see their families everyday. I just ask them to take awhile and look at the growers point of view and the medical progress that has been made. This war on pot was started with unfair lies and ridiculous exaggerations and of course the movies with terrible actors so rich people could protect their bottom line. Sorry enough babbling
