New City Grower 2.0

I agree with GF. I was skeptical about the fat in the Enfamil as well. Then again, Joe doesn't use much of it - feeding only a couple of times a cycle. Besides the fat there isn't anything bad in it. There are carbohydrates to feed the biota (like molasses does.) There is no miracle ingredient that I see...

Also, GF, you did say there was no sodium in Epsom! You are spot on. The only thing I would say is that all of the stuff plants need are parts of salts because they all carry a charge. Ca+, K+, NH4+... With chemical fertilizers folks tend to add too many and this is especially true in containers. A balanced organic soil takes care of these things by itself. An unbalanced organic soil does not. I'm sure you've seen people go too heavy with something like cotton burrs and have issues...

I am more familiar with how ions are moved around in humans and animals than I am with how it happens in plants, but I understand the lingo and it isn't that different. My calcium magnesium little transporter dudes thing is over simplified, but not total butchery. When a plant develops a magnesium deficiency it is rarely because there isn't enough magnesium in the soil. It is because there are too many other + charged ions in the soil. Adding extra magnesium in the form of Epsom salts will get some results because by increasing the amounts of magnesium available it will compete for transport by the little dudes more effectively. The big problem usually is that there are just too many cars (positively charged ions) on the freeway to begin with. You can add a whole bunch more positively charge magnesium atoms to the mix and make them more prevalent in the traffic jam, but what you really need is less traffic in general.

Here is a snippet from an article about this:

"A Mg2+ deficit can be caused by the lack of the ion in the media (soil), but more commonly comes from inhibition of its uptake.[3] Mg2+ binds quite weakly to the negatively charged groups in the root cell walls, so that excesses of other cations such as K+, NH4+, Ca2+, and Mn2+ can all impede uptake."(Kurvits and Kirkby, 1980;[57]

Ok, so we frequently have people who are relatively inexperienced with gardening in general - growing cannabis in containers. They are tempted by all the pretty bottles of nutrients and see others touting their merits on a regular basis. Maximum nutrition is the desired goal. A magnesium deficiency is the first problem these growers will see because it is the first nurtient to be outcompeted for transport. The same thing happens in people when they start overdoing the supplements.... Magnesium deficiency shows up early.

At first sign of a magnesium deficiency a grower should flush the living crap out of the container and resume feeding as normal. Hit the reset button. Reboot like you do if your computer is clogged up. Adding more stuff is not the answer. Adding a balance cal/mag supplement may be a good idea after the flush...

PJ, you are so right. I would disagree with the burning of cotton burrs, though! :) I can honestly say I never saw any organic matter burn any plant the way the blue/green water does. I also use lavasand and/or decomposed granite sand in all my containers and beds to help with the cation exchange capacity in the soil. I have to do this because without OM in the soil, I have a high pH and elements are no available which will then give me the deficiency you speak of. Of course everything is about balance, just not the way the chemical fert companies want you to think of it. For example, 15-30-15. Some would call that a balanced fertilizer because it has equal amounts of N and K. Here again definitions are out of skew. It's the lay of the land in horticulture. So frustrating, but people just want to garden. Set it and forget it. Then, when it all goes dark they return the plant and want another.

I got off track...we use Mg in my area to help unlock the iron in the soil. There is plenty of Ca with all this limestone and caliche. Fortunately, I have pretty deep soil. My house was built on an old homestead where the farm was 1,000 acres of animals and corn. I'm very lucky. Most people in the area have no soil. We use a lot of native plants around here. It's such a hippy green city. Not bad for where I live. Planet blue in the middle of a red universe. If ya know what I mean.

Today I have to put my flowers on the plants! Mark thinks I'm crazy, but he loves the way yours looks.

BAR, you're on the crossroads you know. It's like in this old blues-hoodoo tale, either you sell your soul to inorganic salts or learn how to keep a balanced medium using less to get more :)

You wanna provide steady source of Ca, Mg, or even iron cations and anions (now I don't remember which ones have to have negative, and which ones have to have positive charge), buy yourself a 6-pack of mineral water, and forget about RO. There are only problems involved with reversing what nature provides in abundance.

I see more than one amber Reg. :ciao:
Also, I have had new pistols when I revegged this GDP during the first 10 days or so. I noticed you are trying to clone with your willow branches. Im sure you have seen this, but are you making 'willow growth hormone'?
Willow Growth Hormone

Hope everything is All good my friend.
:allgood: HC FTW kc :allgood:

Nice trich Picture BAR. W finally got Med MJ in NYS. Funny thing you can't smoke it. Only Vape. HA HA.

Thanxx Spimp but I've been brewing & using Willow Water for over 2 months now. I just keep rooting & recycling the branches I took on my Willow Tree Search.

NURSE BETTY (Royal Medic) Day 53 / Day 15 under 12/12

She might force me to raise the light panel in the Bloom tent. I still have close to a foot of clearance. Here's some pics I took this morning along with a couple of before & afters. She's nearly 3ft tall now.

Or edibles. Is that crazy or what. I don't get it.

Beautiful pic Neighbor. Hope all is well.

Long time no hear from Jet.How was your spring & what delights do you have to show us?

I see you lurking. What's good AG?

Well Ive got some G13s out and one White widow but I did things different this year so pics will be rare but I will get some later in the season for you BAR.

Sorry, I left out one of the pics I loaded in the phone this morning. It shows the clearance I have left but it's going to be tricky raising the panel without the ports causing light leakage. The one in the back can really be closed but the one to the left is where the intake fan is.

Hi Reveg Reg :ciao:

I have a Q for ya
Have you noticed any of your revegged plants finishing sooner that the original? My GDP that I revegged is already showing some scattered ambers and Im at like 4-5 weeks since 12-12. :hmmmm:
It had some solid preflowers before I flipped but these trics seem to be on overdrive. Ive also noticed lots of new pistols and the start of foxtailing sinceI introduced the HPS.
Anyone have any clue if there is a time difference of Original vs Reveg finishing?

Everything I've done using a mother plant (clones too) harvests earlier than that mother did, Spimp.

Thank you Sir. :high-five:
That makes sense.
Seems like when i force flower a girl early or go straight 12-12 from seed the opening flower period is much longer than the few I have let get mature before flowering. Seems to reason Clones/reveg would be the same (given a decent veg time).

Thanks for letting me see it straight PotChimp. I got a new strain in the Bong and its kept me looking pretty sideways.

I was thinking about your home remedy fertilizer project and wanted to add to your list corn meal. Ordinary corn meal. You could get corn gluten meal if you wanted, but the stuff in bags at the grocery store will also work. Corn meal is known to have a protein which creates a fungus (or is it mold) in the soil which will suppress seed germination. It is a natural weed control tool which works amazingly well if put out at the proper time in your region. That is the corn gluten meal. Corn meal will have a lesser effect and take longer to build up in the soil, but the main reason I'm telling you about corn meal is because it has 10% Nitrogen. It is a good fertilizer for vegetation. I use it on my lawn as a soil food as well as directly fertilizing the turf. Just be mindful that you should not use it in soils where you want to germinate seed.

LED light hangers are pants. Why not provide a kit that doesn't rob headroom? I modified the ones on my Mars
IMG_001981.JPG

skunny are those hanger points made of medal or plastic? Pulling on them sideways may break them if they are plastic after awhile. Great idea to shorten up the headroom but it would suck to come in a see it on top of the plants. I would put a safety hanger device of some sorts to make sure that can't happen. I have come in and opened the tent and had the fixture, 12 bulb t5, laying on the plants on one end. Dam plastic fixture for the cross pieces for hanging in the top of the tent broke. Not happy.

Good Morning weed BAR. I did the final trim on my royal medic. I chopped it early because I was having problems again. I was finally dry enough yesterday to do the trim. She was so resinous that she just wouldn't dry. I got 80 grams of nice fruity dank smelling buds. Kind of a ugly brown color but smell real fresh. Yours is looking really nice and healthy. :thumb:

The hanging bracket lug things are standard TopLED fixings & looks like brass. I've used welding rods with the flux removed to link them as it's the only thing I had to hand at the time. They have done a great job though so I won't bother swapping them for anything else. There is no sideways strain on the fixings & I've given them a good tug to check how safe they are & there's more chance of my roof support breaking than anything in my modification.
I get ya with the plastic thing, I've got a twin CFL I use for babies & the bulb is held in with plastic clips. I once found both bulbs sat on top of my babies as the plastic had failed.
