ph should be checked when nutes and water have dumped out of the roots. the best time is 4 hrs after lights are off and/or 3 hrs before lights come on. always check at the same time. that is critical time. crucial to determine what your true ph is. then make adjustments then.the best products are natual ph up or down. be carefull as they are more concentrated then you think. most tap comes as 7.0 and has a tds that can be just about anywhere, almost all ferts come with average tds in mind [ they take it into account] when useing ro water it also can be all over the place in ph and tds but the fert/nute should say it is for r/o water. you can strip your plants useing r/o water or over fert with it useing ferts/nutes that are not designed for it. you must establish a base [time] best time to test your tap , your r/o and the fert/nute water your useing. with tap 100 tds is ideal, 200 tds is average 300 is very hard water and above that is considered contaminated water. with r/o it can be 50 to 100. mine is 200 at the tap so i use nuted/ferts at 1/3 less then recomended or even less then that. my r/o water is 10 or below which is very very clean pure water. better then rain water which is around 30 to 50 in california. yes rain picks up solids as it falls thru the air and cleans the air. there is alot of dust in the universe. my plants grow at 600 all the way up to 2700 tds depending on what i am doing and what the plants may need. for the most part the nutes/ferts will lower your ph alot. especially if you check them a day after you add them to the water before useing in your watering system. lots of break down going into soluable useable nutes/ferts happens in 24 hrs. i dont worry about that much cause i use soil grows in 12/12 system/techniques and the soil has enough of everything the plants need for 8 to 10 weeks[total grow time] from seed to harvest. when learning a new strain i do an outdoor grow and a full indoor grow veg ect. then i know what it will do. because there are really only hybreds and purestrains and types there is a golden rule to it . but testing your ph and tds/ec should always be done at least 1 time per week at the 4 hrs after light is off or 3 hrs before light is on. that rule never changes. and always check ph and tds of all water before use. then about 24hrs after treated. it will give ya your base line. YOU NEED A BASE LINE. and check your water before doing anything to it, better yet let it stand for 24 to 36 hrs then check it. the clorimides in tap evap at 36 hrs. 24 for r/o as most of it is already striped by the r/o system. or add carbon filters designed to remove clorimides and heavy metals. also water from soft water systems useing potasium salts for regeneration the medium is really good water to use just use ferts/nutes designed with r/o systems. they say right on the package if it is 90% of the time or you should contack the manufacturer for specific info. i own a water treatment company before home depot and lowes put me out of business with cheep systems diy or use their contractors. i still have sales with alot of 420 people but it dosent pay the bills anymore. ok i put ya all to sleep. latter.
