My Perpetual Foursome

That’s the plan!

Exactly what MrS said is how I’ve watered, I always keep watering until I see a bit of runoff and once and awhile I shoot for 20% runoff to make sure there is a good soak and to flush out some buildup. The hard part is having the patience to let it dry out so the roots grow!

I think you have enough soil in your pots, you don’t want to ever really compact it as that can lead to less efficient drainage.
Sounds good bro. Appreciate you all looking out. I'm just a stoner growing pot not a botanist I'm doing my best. Almost exactly 2gallons I achieve runoff. My biggest issue is when to increase my water. Am I shooting for runoff throughout the entire grow like this?

Hey bro I hear you like I said I’m not an expert and this is just what I learned starting out just like you I made a ton of mistakes so hoping to spare you the same.

Essentially yes, the written rule is water slowly until 5-20% runoff that way you know the medium is fully saturated. You will learn what your plants take though and most watering a I knew exactly what they needed to just get a couple drips of runoff and only really went for 15-20% once and awhile to flush out buildup. At that point in veg you want to wait until the pots are light when you lift them before watering again.

Another suggestion but not absolutely required if you haven’t - you want to get them up off the floor, especially if the floor is cooler(ie a basement). Ideally at least in a saucer that you can suck the runoff out of. A cheap and easy setup that worked for me is those black resin shelves on top of upside down Rubbermaid bin lids. That way I could see the runoff drop out, the bottom of the pots were elevated so they had air flow and I could reach in and shop vac the runoff out easily.

Sounds like a pain in the ass at first I know, but once you get it setup it’s not so bad. Here’a my setup and then how I upgraded it:

Perfect, love the paint job! I’m a millwright by trade. It’s been awhile since I’ve been on the tools but I was half decent on the stinger at one point. I always found welding relaxing.

Nice, millwright. Sounds interesting, never worked in a mill. I enjoy creating stuff. Work is where I collect my thoughts most definitely.

So I'll be harvesting soon. My blue dream has been very hungry. To the point that I'm feeding the max recommended and still getting cal mag issues. So I hit up GLN and asked them what to do. They said simply go beyond the max by .5 until the issue stops. Well it's a bit late for all that as she grew well straight through the issue. So for me that clears up that issue and if I every get an extra hungry plant again I'll know what to do/try.

Many members also supplement Megacrop with Low nitrogen Calmag product like General Hydroponics Calimagic fyi

Yeah I know I added a cal mag product and didn't help much

Edit: I know members who say to never add a cal mag product too that's why I asked GLN..

No they'll be in 7gallons once they get a bit bigger. I meant just fill in any loose spots not compress it. Seems like the soil gets lower and lower the more we water. It was definitely started off all the way to the rim. I'll take your advice though and not top layer.
The reason I asked was if you were not going to uppot then I would fill them in. It'll make it easier to remove from the pot when it comes time to uppot leaving it as is.

The answer isn't always increasing the food. I would wait and see how the plant's respond now that you are giving them adequate amounts of water. The size of your plants at this stage and anything over 4g's is a waste. The plant is not going to use it. They are simply hungry because of the lack of food/water that they have been receiving lately.

Nooo we were talking about my big plants. The littles are doing better. Just chopped second out of 4

Many of us are not big fans of the advice thrown out by GLN believe it or not. It's easy for them to say, but we are the front line and we see what happens when feeds go beyond their calculator recommendations.
Indeed. Next time I'm just gonna go until any issues I have stop. Just want to thank you @MrSauga again for pulling me outta the weeds. I appreciate anyones help on here but I can say without a doubt your advice is always solid. I thought I had the watering thing down it's been busy irl and I'm pioneering my perpetual setup. It's easy to get lazy or slack on proper technique. We're back on track now the growth has always been fast but now they're really looking nice. After the haircut they already have afros again.

Take care have a good day I won't be on here much today.

@Havocsm1, is seems that Mr.S didn't pull you out of the weeds but pulled the weed out of you! :Rasta:

Theyve arrived. Pretty quick too. My next grow will be a 3 plant Bruce Banner#3 grow sponsored by Herbie's Seeds. I'll probably throw one of my new ones in with it too since that's what I'm set up for. Still have 5 or 6 different strains from my first order too... They're piling up..

The smalls are looking great. The 710 diesel is behind but I have no doubt she'll catch up. Next feed I'll up to 3.5g of MC.
