My First Time Growing

I'm loving it! Perpetual sounds awful good and will let me quit the narcs I want off of so badly. I've been on them years so due to physical dependence it will take a couple months to quit, But my Doc and I have discussed it somewhat (without any talk about the grow) and he is now recommending medical Marijuana finally. He used to have a sign up in his office that read something to the effect of he does not now nor will he ever prescribe med Marijuana. He finally came around though just recently.

Thanks for the help!
Smokey

You cannot believe how wonderful it is to read about yet another Doctor who has come to the realization that medical cannabis is a REAL alternative to big pharma! We need to read these things every single day!
Thanks for that Smokey.

I just mentioned the problems my wife is having. Shiggity is the one who told me about how Cannabis can help diabetics. Looks like I'm gonna be ramping up production here in the future. I told her about the oils for another problem she has and she was interested. As soon as we talk today, I'll know for sure if she's interested but I'm willing to bet she will be. After looking at that link, I know where I'll be reading for a while!

Well I know the true link to smokeys happiness is to help Mrs. Smokey. When two people love each other so much then each other's health becomes just as important as your own. I like Mrs. Smokey. Every time you have posted about her it is clear to me that even when she was being negative about the grow is us because she protects smokey like a pit bull. She is a fantastic woman in my book and I pray that we can get to the point where you are both taking canna oil for your health and well being. I want to see Smokey posting here for the next 40 years! I want us all to keep doing that. And things will be legal all over the world by then. We will be attending reunions/conferences where we all present talks and get baked!

Thanks Shiggity, Your right about us. We are as close as 2 people can get. We both worry more about the other one than we do ourselves. I just had no idea that Cannabis could help diabetics. That has my attention! Thank you so much for the info!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thanks:

Dennise is a diabetic too. I'm sure she will pop around at some point and give her input.

You're supposed to be sleeping.....? LOL

I'm just enjoying coffee before I do some grow work.

Also, idea for input guys.....would it work to put a black plastic trash bag inside the milk jugs with the bottom cut off the bag liner for drainage? Just tape it to the outside with overlap? That would save a ton of duct taping.
Just and idea, shoot it down or up at your leisure.

You are most welcome Canna! I love that he finally came around after years of being the way he was. I tried talking to him about it when our state STARTED talking about legalizing medical marijuana years ago.

I should go to sleep now, I was waiting for her to wake up to find out her blood sugar before I hit the sack. I think I'm gonna log off now though. I can't keep my eyes open hardly. I'll "see" you later! Enjoy your coffee.

I'm planning on using black duct tape around it. That's what I did with Minnie when I transplanted her/him. I just have no containers available to me now and with my money situation, I cant afford to buy even a can of spray paint right now.
Trust me, I understand. I'm a single father with a teenage daughter working at a privatized civil service job.

The pictures were very helpful, both yours and Bob's. Ok Smokey, after you've had some rest and when you feel up to it go ahead and change the timer on the tent to a 12/12 schedule and let's send Harley and Casey into flower. I base that decision on this picture.

BiggyinbookcaseIMG_20160215_223654.jpg

That is about as big as you can get a plant in the bookcase and when it can't be in the bookcase anymore then it needs to be in the tent. When you look at the next picture visualize one plant about that size, one about the size the big plants were 10-15 days ago (a little bigger than Jordan is now) and a couple of small plants in cups.

BookcasetrialIMG_20160216_051231.jpg

It will take 4-5 weeks for a seedling to get as big as the big plant. You'll move a big plant out of the bookcase every 10-15 days and plant a new seed.

The footprint of the big plants right now is about 1 square foot. You have 8 square feet to work with in the flowering tent. Flowering takes about 65 days (depending on the strain) from when the plant starts a 12/12 schedule. That means that you'll have 4-5 plants in the flowering tent at the same time once everything is full. That works out to one plant ready to harvest roughly every 15 days, too.

That's what's making sense to me based on the spaces you have available. There are some good eyes here that may have some other ideas. I'm going to ramble on a bit more in a bit to give them food for thought when they consider things.

It doesn't make sense to LST plants for a big wide canopy in the bookcase. Topping like was done on Casey and Harley seems just the ticket. Jordan was topped a little earlier and can probably get topped again before it's ready to move into the flowering tent in 15 days. Minnie should follow about a week or two behind Jordan.

When a plant hits the flower tent it stretches for the first couple of weeks. Stretching means accelerated, elongated growth, Smokey, and is not just about seedlings. The fastest growth rates you'll see are during the two weeks after the light schedule changes. After that most strains settle into making flowers and while they do get bigger mostly the plant is putting it's energy into making big flowers rather than growing taller and wider.

The smallest plant in the flower tent will only be taking up ~ 1 square foot of the flowering tent. The oldest plant will be using up more like 2 + square feet. LST can be used quite effectively during the stretch period to give the early flowering plants some shape if necessary.

Another thing I've been meaning to mention but keep forgetting. Early on when I was talking to Smokey he mentioned that he currently has a bowl or two of weed a week to smoke and knows it helps him feel more comfortable. He also mentioned that finding seeds in the small amount of cannabis he does get is quite rare. That means that the seeds he's found have a big chance of being hermie seeds.

Hermie is one of those jargon words. Because Smoke is new I'll explain it so he and others reading understand. Usually, in order to get seeds, a male pot plant needs to pollinate the female. Cannabis is an odd plant because it has the ability to shoot out a couple of male flowers on an already flowering female plant and make seeds. Most commonly this happens as a last ditch effort for the plant to reproduce when it's become stressed and senses that the end may be near, or if it is left in flower for a long time after it was harvest-able. If you find one or two seeds in a bud and the rest of the pot is seed free, there is a good chance those seeds are hermaphrodite, or "hermie" seeds. They are the product of asexual as opposed to sexual reproduction.

Hermie seeds are almost always female. There is a very good chance that Harley, Casey, Jordan, and Minnie will all be female plants since Smokey rarely finds seeds in his medicine. Did all the seeds come out of the same bud/batch, Smokey?

The down side to hermie seeds is their offspring are more likely to go hermie and pollinate themselves than plants grown from non-hermie seeds which are the product of normal sexual reproduction.

Here's a couple of picture of my 4x2x4h tent. It has the same Mars Reflector 144x5w light. The two plants are hanging out in there and will be moved into my flowering tent as I harvest the plants in there. They are in 10 gallon pots. There is a three gallon pot in there for size reference.

This next pictures show what four 3 gallon pots look like in the tent. The plant in there is the clone I'm sexing in the flower tent right now. It would easily fit in the other end of the tent where the pots are staggered back-to-front. It's an all sativa plant so doesn't have the fat leaves and tight nodes of Smokey's plant but is basically the size that Harley and Casey are now.

When a plant is introduced to the flowering tent LST will be useful for pulling limbs so the plant has a rectangular shape. There is 24" of room from the front to the back of the tent for each plant, but only 12" of room side to side.

Does that make sense?

Nice setup

:welcome: to :420: Bonza!

I wonder if after looking at the spaces Smokey is dealing with if there are any strains that spring to mind that would be good for pain managment and easy to grow within the confines of Smokey's grow spaces?

Hi, even though we have been around that long, I'm the new guy and I would recommend: Nirvana's Aurora Indica (fem) or NYC Diesel.

Sorry B A R, I had a lot of things in my head that it could have stood for, Here's just a few examples I just came up with:
Bad Ass Rocker
Beyond Any Relief
Big Ass Romulan
Big And Romantic
Black And Relieved
Buzzed And Relaxing
Braced And Ready
Breakin' All Rules

Could have stood for anything! Sorry, But I sure am glad your

here! To me you were just (in the back of my mind) Big And Reliable!
