My First Time Grow Journal: Pictures, Descriptions, Timelines

Good morning all! I hope everyone is ready for the day, or if you are on the other side of the world, hope you had a good one!

Anyways, it's been confirmed that the bushy baby is a male. I was a little sad but every dark cloud has a silver lining.

Now, I am not a stranger when it comes to cross pollination and combining genetics in plants. I've done it with peppers with great success, but never with cannabis.

The process is pretty much the same, whereas pollen is extracted from a pollen sac and then distributed to the female portion of the plant. Simple.

Of course if I do this, I have to do it within the right timeline so as my seeds will mature enough with the plant.

I was reading up on feminizing seeds, but I don't think I will try this process this time, as I am looking to harvest my herb sooner than later. In order to feminize the seed with rodelization, you must grow a female plant through its WHOLE life cycle. In response to this stress, the female plant with produce pollen sacs in order to breed itself, or any other nearby female plants. The resulting seeds should be feminized.

As I type this I even debate about cross breeding at all. I really just want some bomb ash herb that I have grown, and just buy some feminized seeds off the market. Although it would be cool to have a custom strain.

Thoughts?

Make and keep a couple of clones. If you like the smoke after harvest you still have the genetics to do whatever you want with.
Hehe my next question was;
: if I want to clone this straggly plant what do I clone? I'm going to buy some cloning solution today. Is it still to immature for cloning?

Good point, I see one down at the bottom that could make a good clone but that's about all. It's actually more mature than I like for clones. But it's a small plant so not much to choose from.

Sweet, as long as I can get one started I think I have the growing down well enough that I can make a bad ass plant and clone more from that. I'll buy some cloning gel after work/class and try it out. I'll take a new picture as well to let you see if there are other good spots

It's a boy!

Still wanted to take a pic of him though, beautiful plant. I'll be placing him out of my flower room back outside, where I will harvest pollen and store it for future females.

@TurboBucket

I couldn't find any decent cloning gel. They did have some stuff called Olivia's cloning solution, but I read mixed reviews. I'll be ordering a gel on Amazon tonight. Any suggestions?

This little stem right here with a small bud on it can be used as a clone?

Yup cut it right at the main stem of the plant. Clonex works. I'm not a fan of Olivia's. I actually don't use anything in my cloner but for soil clones I would have recommend the clonex personally. You can also daub it into split or broken stems and reduce healing time by a day or two. So it's a dual purpose product.

So today I get my clonex gel in the mail, but I won't be able to take the cutting until after 7. Which is good, that's when she wakes up!

I've never used any gel to take any type of cutting. Usually, and mind you this is with NON-CANNABIS plants, I would just place them in a cup of water.

I've watched several YouTube videos and I think the better method that I have seen is by sticking the cutting into soil that has been placed in a red solo cup, cutting a small corner off of a plastic bag, and placing that bag on top of the plant and cup.

We shall see what happens. Fingers crossed! How often do you water it? I know too much water can mush up the clone. Would it be ok to put it in the corner of my FLOWER room?

Have an awesome day people!

Took some quick shots of my topped plant.

Wow! Look at the progress:
Same plant. First photo was taken October 21, 2018. Second was taken today, November 1, 2018.

No don't put your already flowering clone in your flower room. Give it low intesity 18+ hour lighting for the first week. I clone in cups of water when the Dewey is full. I have probably 20 cuts in solo cups right now. Keep the water clean you'll be fine. I think it's easier than cloning into soil personally.

Plants are sleeping right now. 1 more hour and I'll clone that little baby.

I have a single CFL that is 23w. Think that will be good for cloning? Also, you said it's ok to have them cloning in water?

Yup should be fine that's what I use(d) over mine when I don't have the extra cups going it's just in a cheap farm n garden reflector but better than a bare bulb.

Yup should be fine that's what I use(d) over mine when I don't have the extra cups going it's just in a cheap farm n garden reflector but better than a bare bulb.

I have the bulb stuck in a metal shop reflector so at least it can direct some of the beams. I should construct a small cloning box with the lid having a built in CFL bulb, the plants contained to keep humidity, and maybe a computer fan for airflow.

Are all those clones? Wow! Those 5 gallon buckets are filled up the top with water? Or do you just mist those rockwool(?) Cubes? I don't have any rock wool, is it ok to just have the bare stem in the cup/water/gel?

Also, should I cut at a sharp angel and scrape a little bark off the stem?

If you click on one of the links in my signature it will take you to my grows. ;)

The grow room build thread is the home of clones, veg ladies, and all my tinkering stuff. I just posted an update.
:roorrip:

The 3 gallon buckets are Dewey cloners. It's a super simple aeroponic system there's only around 6 inches of water in there. The Dewey spits up water/air bubbles to keep everyone happy. The plants are held by neoprene collars inserted into holes drilled in the lid they run off small air pumps on constantly for the first week or so and then on/off 15 minute intervals

Yes I cut at an angle and scrape a stripe on the bottom of the stem. I leave the top node and the next two fan leaves, I'll cut the tips off the fan leaves if they are too big

I subbed to your journal, I'm about to get two strains to smoke on:

A quarter of GG#4
A quarter of Bubba Kush

Then I'll sit back and read your journals. I pick up little tid bits of advice.

Lights are on now. I'm about to disinfect e everything and clone this baby. Also, I think my topped plant may be a male. I'll post pictures of everything in a bit! Waiting on my delivery in the mean time!

Edit: should I ph my water the clone will be in?
