My First Posted Grow Journal

Hey THC I read your journal it was very interesting you're doing a great job:cheertwo:

Love your strains, you've visited so you know how awesome the ak48 is, and I have the blackberry on my wish list, and the others not far behind.

Are you sure you're ready for what you're talking about? 5' plants will be HUGE!!! They'll easily be 3' wide, probably closer to 4. Mine are 28-32 inches tall and I could only get 2 of them max under my 400w cmh. You're going to have to get another light or else line them all up single file before not too long, and I don't think they'll all fit under a 6' rail.

To give you an idea my ak48 went from 10 to 32" after I switched the lights. And yours are already way bigger than mine were.

Now that I've seen yours I think my bubba kush might be a triplet, my stoned ass just never noticed. I'll have to check it out tomorrow.

Checked the hygrometer today and it reads as follows:
Humidity: 38%
Humidity high: 78%
Humidity low: 37%
Current temperature in room: 70.8 F Above canopy
Current temperature in room: 66.5 F Below canopy

Not exactly sure how good this is. Any suggestions from the great people at :420: ?

Hey THC. IMO you want temps of 75-80 on the buds, I have a fan on them so estimate it's about 5 degrees warmer than my reading just above the lights. I try to keep that reading 73-78 and the girls have been very happy with that.

What's up with the 78% rh? Is that over the course of a day? That's a crazy swing.

Most guys like to run 45-55rh during flower but I've been much lower 30-40 and the plants have thrived. Less risk of mold or mildew or bud rot the lower you go, but as I said most guys are higher. I'm trying to find out why. So imo if you can keep it at 37 you'll be good.... but I'd find out why it spiked so high and if it's still doing that.

Just got finished greasing the 6 foot light track too. The thing is going so smoothly now. They do a spot job before sending it out,but it could use an extra good lube job after it runs a while. Used some bearing and brake grease from the garage. Figure it should do a fine job as a light rail greaser too. :) The ladies are only about 3 inches short of two feet now. mature young females i may add. Gonna be a jungle in here in a couple weeks. :bong:

What kind did you get? Do you think it could be firmly mounted on a stand-alone stand? It sounds like it moves pretty slowly so it shouldn't really shake much. Does the light sway hanging like that? I'm in the market for one myself and that's a great price if it's still available.

Sorry for such a long post. Great looking plants and great journal!

Thanks smokeymcmedic,i cant wait to flower em either. Figure i only gotta smoke the shwag for 5 or so more weeks and i will be able to start pluckin popcorn bubs off of one of the ak's. need to get one of those big rolling papers that used to come in the cheech and chong vinyl records from up in smoke i believe. that way i can roll a fatty when it's time. :joint:

Thanks blue, I appreciate all the help. Maybe i should switch over this weekend when i transplant, that way it wont get too out of control. Guess i just wanna get a good crop. Was hopin for about 2 ounces or more per plant and i figured 5 footers would get me there. :) May be a bit of an overkill idea though and i cant afford to add more lighting for this grow, maybe a couple cfl's tops. If i switch over this weekend they should be about 2 feet even. In theory i would end up with about 4 footers at the end. Do you think if i flower for 9-11 weeks i will get 2+ ounces per plant? Heck maybe i should leave em in the buckets they are in and switch em over now. Any thoughts?

Brother I'm going to get 2 z's off my ak. You're in 4-5z territory at 4 feet IF you can adequately provide light. I grew plants that size last summer outdoors. 6+ z's each.

People will say otherwise but I've been doing a lot of reading. At 21 and 45 days of flower I'm removing all fan leaves that are in any way keeping light from the buds. If you've only got that one light you may want to consider it, I'll be glad to send you a link.

The guy advocating it has been growing for 25 years and thought it was the stupidest idea ever until he was finally convinced to try it. It works. Increases his yield by 25%.

Thanks bluedog, Please post the link for me, i am interested to read it. I dont believe i am gonna be able to afford to buy the bigger buckets this weekend. I have decided to switch over to flowering this weekend. :) I have grown 3 and a half footers in these buckets before and not had any problems. Figure i will take and post week 5 vegetation pictures this weekend and send em into budding. They should be right at 2 feet and the final size should be around 3 1/2 to 4 feet and hopefully producing 2 ounces each. My back pain has been ridiculous lately and i can barely sleep. I cant smoke the middie's and expect it to relieve my pain as well as the grow room chronic will. Therefore bring on the chronic! I am hoping to be able to start clipping popcorn buds in 4 to 5 weeks. Also i am going to start using flowering nutes this weekend too. I will let you know everytime i administer something. :lot-o-toke:

I have switched the light schedule to 12/12. I have also given the plants tiger bloom (liquid),Big bloom (liquid),Open sesame (crystalized) starting today. Also i have given the plants their last heavy feeding of voodoo juice. Hopefully we will see some pistils by next week. I shall post week 5 vegetation pictures tomorrow and starting next week i will post week 1 flowering photo's. The fun has begun! :lot-o-toke:

I have changed my mind about the music, now that i am going into flowering i have switched from classical/symphony to Classic rock, the plants are currently listening to tina turner "simply the best". :)

I figure my next grow i will do the five to six foot plants, but only ten. Ten plants under a six foot rail and a 1000 watt dual arc should be good. With 20 i would need to add more lighting as they get really wide and tall. My plants are getting as wide and tall at the same time. Both about 22 inches. Can only imagine how wide each at 5 feet. Most say that 2o small plants is the same yeild as 10 big plants . I guess i will test the theory! :wood:

I have raised the light another six inches also. Hopefully it will help the plants want to stretch a bit for me. Off to do a ceremonial switching over bong hit. :Hookah:

That second shot is a triploid. which pretty much means it produces 3 sets of leaves on each level instead of 2. triploids are pretty rare. it is a blackberry. hopefully the bud turns completely purple like it is supposed to. a triploid is supposed to produce 1/3 more bud than a normal plant. because it has 1/3 more bud sites it should in theory. we shall see.

It would be up to 50% more not 33%, because 3 is 50% more then two.

I see how you got that number though, as 2 is 1/3 less then 3.

But either way, the proposed increase would only be that high under perfect circumstances. Other wise lack of full access to light or inability to take up the nutrients required for the extra sight without compromising growth of new sights.

I imagine that in the end it won't be able to reach the same size as the others because of diverted resources, but will provide more bud for the size. Likely more then if it was a normal sized duploid.

welcome to the journal richard. The triploid is holding it's ground with the others currently. It will be interesting to see how much it ends up producing compared to a regular blackberry at a similar size. Anything extra is icing on the cake. Keep hoping it will be stronger than the other blackberry's,who knows anything is possible.

The last time i grew N.y.p.d. they all ended up being male. I was very upset because i ordered feminized seeds. Pistils on all the other strains and sac's on the deisels. they evacueated the premises immediately after being caught bunking with the ladies.Thats why i figured i would order them again for this grow. I will be very excited to see pistils form on them this time so i can know for sure the deisel wont elude me twice. If at first you dont suceed......

Don't scare me mate. I just ordered the weekend whopper (NYPD and papaya) last week from Nirvana. I hope they don't all turn out male for me!!! :wood:

BlueD Wow, you turned a light switch on for me. My root chamber RH was 80+, and my AFs (2+ months old) were not developing clusters of pistils. I now realize this is probably due to the high RH. I did put together a DIY chiller yesterday, now well under 70. I'll bet pistils start poppin. :thankyou:
