Meffa's Winter 2021 Grow: GDP, Sirius Black, 8-Ball Kush, Gelato OG, Old School

Wednesday 12-Jan || 69 Days In Dirt || 1 Days Since Watered

2 days since the up-pot and 1 day after watering and these girls have not skipped a beat. I need to flip the lights soon so the GDP's have room to stretch, they're a bit taller than the 8-Ball Kush's on the other side.

Sirius Black is just a touch shorter than the GDP's so she'll stay under that light. The middle colas on this 4-way candelabra were fighting for space with each other so I took some pex tubing that I had and notched a friction fit spacer. That was last night and 24 hours later they're growing nicely beside each other getting along just fine.

I think this accidental 4-way in a line vs square might work out ok. I don't think it makes the best use of the lighting once you get past two of the 7gl pots though. With the 2 GDP's and 1 Sirius there's a big hole in the middle, but the two 8-Balls fit together more centered with space. Oh well, live and learn and I'm sure they'll turn out ok.

I cooked some soil on the grill today to kill of any pathogens and larvae that might be waiting to ruin my crop and will up-pot Old School and Gelato OG tomorrow. Baking the soil really seems to be working, I haven't seen a single fungus gnat so far with this crew. I'm not going to fool myself though and am going to put down a yellow sticky or two as soon as I hit post here.

Well the hard part is over, everyone has been put into their final 7gl flowering pots and now the fun begins! I'm planning to flip the lights on the first five that were up-potted on Monday, and will wait a couple of days for Old School and Gelato OG.

I decided to add a 200W that was sitting idle on the shelf to the middle of the 4x8 and I moved Sirius Black under that. This let me better position the two GDP's under one of the 600W's so everyone benefits.

So now the lighting is 2x600 and 1x200 in the 4x8 and 2x200 in the 4x4 (1800w total). I did an energy cost calculation to run the 1800W @12hrs on and got $168 per month. Adding fans I'm probably at $180 all in. Not bad for the anticipated yield, and certainly a no-brainer compared to buying from a dispensary.

The question is heat and if I can keep it within range. Right now in my neck of the woods it's single digits Fahrenheit so it's a bit easier. I'm growing in the basement and temps are mid 60's down there right now so we'll see how it goes.

I need to start recording events separately for the plants in the different tents. They were up-potted at different times and I've yet to flip the two in the 4x4, which will probably be tonight. I watered the Fab 5 in the 4x8 yesterday and did a bit of defoliation on all 7 plants. It always feels nice to clean up the lower growth and get a clear view of the soil surface, which also makes watering easier and just cleaner all around. I feel like when I let the lower growth go it leads to problems like inviting PM to the party.

This four colas in a row training that I accidentally ended up with is actually much easier to work with when it comes to managing growth and seeing what's going on. With colas trained in a more traditional square or box shape, the growth gets pretty thick in the middle because you have all of the colas growing into each other, and I find it hard to keep tabs on what's happening in there. Here you can more easily see what needs attention, and airflow is much improved because you don't have to penetrate into the middle of a plant being guarded by four colas. I still don't think it's as efficient with the lighting but I'd say it's pretty minimal. We'll see in two months what the final verdict is.

Two 8-Ball Kush down the other end. The one at the very end looks like a beast and I have a feeling she's going to be a big producer. I've grown this strain before and it's one of my favorites.

I watered Gelato OG and Old School today with Cal/Mag, Humic Acid, Fulvic Acid, Silica, and Coconut water. Everyone in both tents are looking good and I'm really digging the in-line colas.

I watered my five girlfriends in the 4x8 with Big Bloom, Cal/Mag, Silica, and Fulvic Acid. Combined they took 8gl. I did a light defoliation yesterday as well.

I watered Gelato OG and Old School with Cal/Mag, Silica, and Fulvic Acid. I also top-dressed with Geoflora Bloom. Combined they drank 3 gallons.

It looks like I'm on a 4 day watering cycle with this crew. Today I watered the 5 that are in the 4x8 with Cal/Mag, Silica, and Fulvic Acid. I noticed some leaf damage on one of the GDP's that I believe is either heat or light related so I raised the lights a few inches and lowered the target temp for when the exhaust fans kick in, which should also lower the R/H a bit as well.

I just watered the dynamic duo with Big Bloom, Cal/Mag, Silica, and Fulvic Acid. Combined they drank close to 2gl each which kind of surprised me that they drank that much. They didn't look droopy but the pots were light so I probably got to them at just the right time.

I watered my five member rock band today with Big Bloom, Cal/Mag, Silica, and Fulvic Acid. They were thirsty and combined drank 10 gallons between them. They're really picking up speed now and seem to be hitting their stride.

There may be a snowstorm outside but it's pretty tropical inside! I watered the two ladies in the 4x4 today with Cal/Mag, Silica, Fulvic, and Liquid Kelp. Combined they drank about 3.5 gallons. I also top-dressed with Geoflora bloom and covered that with a layer of soil w/EWC

Gelato OG is stretching a bit, especially in the middle.

Old School is a bit more compact than her roommate.

Hi Bill. I think there's good air movement; I have oscillating tower fans in the four corners; and I just today added a small stationary fan that's on the floor aimed up towards the Sirius Black in the middle of the tent. I was shocked as shit when I saw that leaf and wasted no time removing it.

I could turn the fan speeds up but I don't want to hurt the plants that are closest to it. I guess I could try moving them out of the corners and closer to the plants so that the plants on the ends aren't getting the brunt of the breeze. See if we can even things out a bit better.
