McBudz - Twilight, Great White Shark, Master Kush - 2009

and...

Thank you McBudz and PG! Of course, more questions now I guess!...

I did go review your carbon scrubber as PG suggested and I also see the new changes you made to the ONA gal jug - cool!

Another question...
Are carbon scrubbers all vented to outside of the room??? I guess I don't understand that if they clean the air, why are they vented to outside? Doesn't that take the clean air out instead of putting it back into the room? Remember - just an ol' gal here that is NOT generally mechanically inclined, but I am NOT an idiot either! :-) If I need to vent - okay, I will! I'm just makin' sure I partially *think* I know what I'm doing! lol

And PG, you mentioned blowing it outside and neighbors. We are 1/8 mile from the nearest neighbor (past our grove of trees and across a highway), so I don't think sending the smell out the 2nd story roof vent or out the window upstairs would cause any smell anyone would notice... guess I am lucky in that sense.

But INSIDE the house is where my concern is and I do want to make sure I have this potential problem thought out and covered BEFORE it becomes a problem. Thank you gentlemen for all your help!

:peace:

I scrub my air and leave it in the house. I vent the heat from my air cooled reflectors outside.

I would stay on the cautious side and not blow stink right outside. It just is not safe. I would scrub the air in the house then just vent the cleaned hot air outside.

It looks like that is going to be realy hard on your fan creating sooo much more work fo it I just leave mine where there is good air flow or where i smell it the best . is putting near or in front of the ac intake of your home would do the same thing hpe this helps

There is a large fan above it that blows across. I have thought of placing one in the AC intake of my house.
The fan wasn't being used so if it burns up then lesson learned no biggie. I dont plan to leave it running it just works really well as a quick blast of good smelling air.

McBudz... love the pics all the way thru yer journal. My God... I get lost in wonder on the way down your pages and spend way too much time just wishin'!

Okay, I hope you don't mind that I copied a portion of one of your images so I could ask a question. I don't know how to describe this in words, so I pointed to it with an arrow in the image.

Are you venting out to somewhere, or is this pulling air in from the room? I'm sorry, I guess I'm just not understanding - but I'll get it yet! And thank you - gosh you have done a super fine job with your grows!!!!!! Notice I couldn't help but make sure those gorgeous buds of yours were in the image too!

Thanks!

that just vents out of the tent. into the main room. That faces the veg closet and also acts like a fan as it blows the vegging plants nicely.

It acts as 2 things for me... Its an air scrubber most importantly killing almost all of the smell during lights on (fan only runs during lights on). And it is my tent exhaust. I have a smaller intake fan that helps and the rest is passive intake.

My thought was pull all the dank and hot air from within the tent through the filter and just vent out in the room which gets fresh air from the open window and the rest of the house. I really could put the filter any where in the area or main room but I'd rather capture as much stink as I can before it even leaves the tent.

granny,

the biggest advantage of venting outside a tent or to the outside of your house (preferable) is that it creates a negative pressure in the growing area. that means that fresh air is pulled in form where ever there are vents or leaks, and all of the air being vented has been cleaned.

my friend ran a scrubber in his room, and i could still smell it at his front door. he ran a hose (like a dryer) outside and i cant smell it now untill i get into the room right next to them. this is because the clean air will slowly drift to the grow op and then cleaned and out. the smell never stands a chance if you do it this way.

Duh! (blond granny moment?) Now I get it! And what a fantastic setup! Thank you so much for the explanation. And thank you and PG for the info on when the smell begins cuz this is most helpful info in my preparations!

What you did here in this image...

Is similar to what I am building via DIY - same concept. Thought I had to vent the dang thing and that was just going to be a headache. But you are working out of a small area within a room and I am working out of a room. More on this subject in my area cuz I have taken up too much space in your gorgeous journal with my questions - but I greatly appreciate the help!! Thank ya thank ya thank ya. :-)

Thank you WheeloFortune. I have thoughts on this, but I'll respond to this in my journal (with your other message). I'd much rather continue to watch his show here!
Thank you again to all!!!

McBudz .....they look realy nice .what do you think of the kush?

MK was a good plant.Good yields. Found it was useless to really veg too long as it was a top heavy plant and did not produce much below the top half of the plant. Colas also needed to be supported as they got very heavy. Smell was distinct and taste and high decent. I prefer the GWS good high and no hangover to speak of so just stayed with that for uniformity in the hydro. Will be phasing G-13 Haze in as soon as the mom is large enough to give me enough clones

McBudz....hows that cloner working for you now?An thanks for the info

Its money bro.. I switched over to clonex solution from olivias solution and still use olivia's gel and I get 100% success. As soon as they start to stretch I put into veg. Great investment just wish I got the 30 site. Dont need such a big cloner.

Thanks!

Thank you so much, McBudz for being specific. That sure did help me to understand.

I did get a test on the basic DIY ONA bucket I been working on and it works really nice! No carbon, but will keep thinkin' about that one for a bit longer.

You have a real real awesome setup and seem to have your cycles all figured out... and those buds - DELICIOUS! I'll keep watchin the show!

hey mcbuds,

a friend of mine just donated a couple GWS seeds to me. what do you think of the strain so far? obviously they look beautiful, but thats more likely your skill showing than exceptional strain. how does it compare to other stuff you've grown?

Or looking into a drying tent with built on scrubber.

If you had a bit more bloom room you could do what I did and build a light-tight box in the bloom room itself. I used a computer fan for ventilation. Just a thought. <shrug/>

In any case, I love the grow, and the Ona jelly-and-fan is a great one-liner howto. Don't be surprised to see something similar turn up in one of my pics eventually. ;)

Kudos.

that damm solution will put us in the poor house lol

yeah it will lol

No problem Granny

Great idea using ona gel for drying buds. I don't really have a drying "room" to vent a filter, so this is probably my best option now. Hopefully I'll actually need it this time around. lol

It really works well at neutralizing odor.

The strain has been great. Clones very well, 100% success in ez cloner and 90% in soil. Smokes nice too. Curing buds almost have a bit of a dank tea aroma, its hard to place put tea is my best comparison. I cant complain about yield either.

I hope you do try the ona gel fan thing out, its great.

Yup no room in my tent for drying. Only for budding ;)
