Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

Thanks for the responses :)

I was thinking about growing think different. It's an auto strain that yields quite well. Seymour buds yielded over 300gs on one plant over on another forum

be wary when trying to duplicate someone else's results, everybody's environment is different. Not that its impossible, it's just hard to do. Auto's pheno's differ greatly in my experience.

Definitely something I've caught myself doing. I think to myself, "this person got _____ yield, I can do that" but I've been humbled by many grows that seem to yield an oz or two from most plants

Is anyone running the white older style TOPled or the reflector ones? I am curious how they stack up to the 5w models.

It would be nice to get a post together of all TOP LED users with links :)

I got the 96x3w for my veg tent, it's doing well, I don't really have an opinion if it would flower well or not. I'm sure it would in the space I have it in (2x4x5) but I honestly have no plans on finding out. Sorry if that is of little help.

yes, it seems TopLed has a light to fit any configuration. So your saying the 5w panels have better penetration that this 3w COB panel, I cant wait to see Curso using this light, it will help me to make a decision when im in a position to go all led, I grow pretty big plants indoors so maybe the 5w panels are more for me but I gotta say im getting exellent penetration with this COB panel. Covering a 9 x 9 space with 5w panels would also cost alot more...decisions decisions lol

I really like how the COB panel is so bright, has a huge coverage for the wattage, and penetrates well! On your side by side shots vs the HPS, it seemed the COB plants in natural light looked slightly healthier but also may just be the photos, what was your final take on the COB vs HPS? I am most likely getting a COB to replace my HPS in my flower tent but also am looking at the 96x3w reflector panel too. I also will be replacing my 400w CMH bulb in my veg tent with a LED to lower electricity cost and think the 96x3w should be fine in my 2.5'x5'x7' tent for veg. I have to say your photos definitely made me wanna pick one of these COB lights up...amazingly bright!

Curso, is this the only LED you have or do you have others. I am thinking about picking up the same panel for my veg tent instead of my 400w CMH...(tears) I love my CMH but I don't love my high electric bills :) What are your thoughts on this panel, any positives or negatives or suggestions. My tent is 2.5'x5'x7', also rectangular and I figured this light should come close to what I need in veg but open to any advice.

Seems like for now the 240x5w is the best bet for penetration and coverage. I think they are still in the testing stage for the COB, but I definitely think its gonna be the next evolution after they get everything dialed in.

Hey everyone...

So I have been torn between which direction to go with LED and what wavelengths and blah blah blah for years now. I really like what I am seeing with TopLED and would like suggestions based on those who are familiar with these lights as well as familiar with my grows. I just lost my job and honestly shouldn't be spending the money, but I look at is as ROI and savings in electricity bills. If I can rid myself of 1x 400w light with a 200w or so LED, and get rid of my other 600w HPS (runs at 400w) and replace it with a 200w or so LED, this would save me around 46$ a month in electric which would almost pay for my investment within 1 year. Eventually I would like to go full LED, but my financial situation prohibits this right now so I am going to work with what I can.

My Goals:
To replace my 600w HPS (usually runs at 400w) in my flower tent (2.5'x5'x7') which also runs a 400w Ceramic Metal Halide which I will not be removing because it simply kicks booty in flowering spectrums. I currently am growing 3' to 4' plants but plan on switching back to my v-scrog soon in the near future... ohh wouldn't that be a cool journal, the return of the v-scrog, only LED or mixed spectrum LED and CMH. :)

Heres my tent, the light I want to replace is the one on the right side..(don't mind the blacklight, was using it to fry thrips...lol)

My options listed in order of what I favor due to price, usage area and coverage, type of use and actual specs....

Option 1: Because I will be using the (white) Ceramic Metal Halide, I already am getting a full spectrum and I was thinking that the 200w COB light might be a perfect replacement for my HPS. Since the Optimal lighting area will only need to be 2.5'x2.5' I think this light should be sufficient as well as compliment an already fine spectrum from my CMH bulb. The COB light does not have white in it which is fine because I already have full spectrum white from my CMH which means more wavelengths in the key PAR areas. I think this is the best option.

Option 2: get (1x) 96x3w reflector LED and replace the HPS.. ( I like how you can switch from veg to flower or full being that when taking clones I don't want to overpower them). I also like the long rectangular shape which will give me the best coverage for the shape of my tent.

Option 3: a MarsII 80x5 and replace the HPS. I like the MarsII light but the light may be too intense for my tall plants being that I would only be able to give them about 12" of room from the bottom of the lights. I also prefer the rectangular lights due to my tents also being rectangular so the light coverage I think would be better with the other options... still in the running but the price keeps this one low on the list.

Option 4: get (2x) 96x3w reflector LED's and put 1 on each side of the CMH bulb (This would only be possible if I land a job soon or Sara works with me on price for multiple purchases and exchange for journals, and videos. because I can't afford the extra 96x3w otherwise now. fingers crossed :) )

Option 5: get (2x) of the 100x3w (white) on each side of the CMH bulb. (I would rather go with the reflectors vs these panels because the diodes are pushed harder on the reflector ones based off the specs. However, the price is much cheaper so if I purchase 2 of these It almost would be 1.5x more than the 96x3w, but would give me double the LED's and double the coverage area. (still a strong consideration)

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts....

The 2nd goal I have is to replace my 400w Ceramic Metal Halide in my Veg tent. Since the COB lights do not have white in the spectrum I will not be considering them. I do believe white light is important to fill in the gaps between bands of LED so I do want to make sure that the light I choose does have white which both the MarsII and the Reflector lights have. My veg tent is also the same size as my flower tent 2.5'x5'x7' and so I would want 1 light to cover the entire tent if possible for veg.

Here is my veg tent..looking to replace the Hood and CMH completely..

Option 4: Go with a 200w COB light. I know that it has enought power to light the grow area but doesn't have the dimming capibility as the other options above do.

So many choices and all most likely would be fine, my concern is the best lighting for my grow area at the best cost. Any suggestions would help :)

Hey Curso, I looked through for photo gallery but couldn't find a photo of your veg tent with the 96wx3. Do you mind taking a photo and uploading it for me when you get a chance, I would love to see how it covers your 2x4 tent since my tent is just slightly larger than that. Would give me a good idea if it will meet my coverage needs. :) :Namaste:

ice i have thoughts however im going to bed and i dont want to give you a short crappy answer, so i will give you my ideas in the morning, after i have a cup a joe, i imagine it will be between 6 and 9 am so dont decide yet k? im just so tired and crosseyed

I've been researching LED's for about 2 years now...so definitely don't mind another nights sleep on it :) I really would love to hear your opinion BID, especially because you are familiar with my grows and my needs as well as now have experience with a few different lighting types. Can't wait to hear what ya got for me :)

I just got new price list from boss, and arranged website update to website maker, I were told it will be ready online next monday, our website will be closed one or two days for upload new information there. after we update new website. website price will be lower than ebay. About alibaba, that price is EXW or FOB, customers need to pay shipping cost themselves. so do not compare with website. website is FREE shipping.
We make 730nm 660nm 630nm 460nm 440nm warm white and pure white in the light. our mars II have daisy Chain, others do not have.

vege spectrums and bloom spectrum will be made on different light, why we advertise that information, because we want customers to know that we can make those spectrum, special for vege or flower.

White:warm white 2500~3500K. pure white 6500~7500K.

440 and 460 are blue in our spectrum .

UV can be added in the light, but we have many customer said that is unnecessary, so we do not use it. if you want. 2USD per pcs. IR and UV are really very expensive.

As to the information about our COB light, I will keep silent , we are not selling it now, when we find the right one, we will answer u .

I have umol information, I will email u . As to Par value, we measured, it will cause by lense angle, so we do not think that is fair to led quality, so we do not advertise that information.

Any questions, please email me, thank u
Hey Sara, Thank you for your reply via email. I am still somewhat interested in the possibilities of your lights and have a few more questions. I figured I would type them here so that others can see the answers as well.

I am curious why your lights are more expensive on your website than those which are listed on Ebay or Alibaba from your company?

I also am still curious about what exact wavelengths are used to make your lights..."430-475nm, 620-630nm, 660nm, 730nm and white (Bloom)" is what is mentioned but what LED wavelengths make up this blend?

I also wanted to know do these lights have a Daisy Chain feature where multiple lights can be linked together?

On your website the wavelengths list this:"
430-475nm, 620-630nm, 660nm and white (Veg)
430-475nm, 620-630nm, 660nm, 730nm and white (Bloom)

Does this mean that the lights have 2 modes?

What is the color temp of the whites used? 2700k, 3500k 5000k, 6500k or a combo?

You list that the blue range on the LEDs is 430-475nm and this is made up of two different LED's. What wavelengths are used in the blue?

Why no UV spectrum <400nm? Can they be added?

Can the lights be customized per request? such as different LED combinations, and additional LED chip requests? and if so, what is the additional cost. If so I would want to add UV 380nm, a few violet in the 410nm region, a couple aqua/indigo chips in the 480-520 range, some Far Red in the 680-690nm range as well as would love to see some Cree LMH2 Chips in the 4000k and 3000k range. Is this possible and how much are custom light specs?

Do you have any COB/5W led combos, where both COB chips and standard either 3w or 5w chips are also used?

Do you have any measurement results of radiospectrometer graphs/results or your products?

Do you have any Par/UMol readings of the light output at different heights and also at different areas in the light footprint?

Thank you Sara for your help and I look forward to your reply :)
