Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

Ok so i'm still wondering on this 12 to 15" distance from led to plant tops.
Does it depend on the power or spectrums used because as an example a guy on other forum has them much closer it seems in a pc case and as far as I see all looks well, but he's only using 51w of 3w red/blue.

Any thoughts or options? as I also wondered about using leds for side lighting until now.
Thanks..

Hi Clipper ... I have both the 3w reflectors and the 5w Mars II and what I have noticed if they are to close to the canopy that the plants will slow down on growth and will start to bleach the leaves. It was easily corrected by raising the light to the 12 to 18" height plus you are making sure the plants get all the spectrum where if it is to low they are only getting a portion of the full spectrum light.... Hope this helps and makes sense to ya.......:circle-of-love:

isn't 12-15" kinda close? Topled sends a card with the lights stating the recommended distance and I believe 18" is the closest they recommend, with my 3 w leds I've tried to keep a minimum of 18" and an average of 24", but even at 30"+ I have extremily tight growth and zero stretch, excluding my recent La Diva but her stretch is based upon pheno type. Even my pop corn buds which are approx 4 feet or more from the light are forming very very nicely. These leds are far more useful than just side lighting, if u haven't purchased yet I can assure u, u will not disappointed with any of the topled models as your sole light source, especially if u are growing on a micro level, I am using 2 small tents, a 2x2 and a 3x3 and I purchased 1 300w old model, 1 reflector series 96x3w and 1 marsII 400w, I have yet to use the marsII because the other 2 have been more than enough for my needs, growing 2 autos and 1-2 photo strains at a time normally have 4 plants going to ensure a consistant harvest. I am about to flower a g13 labs purple kush with my old model 300w, haven't used this light threw entire flower yet but have no doubt its gonna do its job just fine.

Techy's Critical Mass Stealth LED Grow

I see, very interesting.

Thanks for the all the replies people. Perhaps a prakasa would be best for me for now then (see my box here);

CFL to LED in UK

then maybe a decent sized topLED in future when I have more height,
Thanks I'll check through your grow techy..

So you plan to buy a less-efficient lamp because you can put it closer to the plant? Why not just get the smallest TopLED lamp?

On my first thread there you'll see I would only have roughly 28" from the bottom of the 150w reflector type to the floor so 15 to 20" is not too great for me in that space. I could raise the fan/filter a bit but only a couple of inches or so.

No final plans yet though. I did'nt know the prakasa was less efficient I have not looked at it in great detail yet but they seem to be stocked in UK.
Thanks..

Sorry to bug, but if you were filling a 10wx12lx7h room, would you recommend 8x400w marsII or should I drop the extra for 6x900's? 600 dollar difference....and I was thinking of dangling 1 1000w hps in the middle of the room on a mover.

I currently have 4-5k possible light in the current room, would really like to cut it down cause there isn't enough height for 5k. if I went all led I could really cut the electricity in half.

Hi, I want to celebrate my Mars 2 900 with you! I feel good to have a lamp that is so modern! The distance from the canope is 30 inches and some seeds I planted into one almost empty pot are not stretching even the lamp is hanging far away. It's a standard spectrum. I would like to know how much PAR the Mars lights produce from a distance of 50 inches or so. Happy growing :)

DrZiggy, My Canon digital camera doesn't make the photos purple. But the photos do appear blue-ish.

To get accurate color while taking photos of your plants while the lights are on (any light LED, HPS, MH) you'll need to set your camera to manual "white balance". That's the most accurate way to capture the image, better then correction in post.

Hey all!

I thought i would share some bud and tricome shots of some of my ladies currently flowering under Mars II 1200w
