Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

Since your tent is square you probably not want the 144X3, it 3-48 diode modules long. But you may want to get another 96X3w when you flower, for veg what you got is more then fine.

I intend on replacing this light for flowering. Considering a 192x3w, Mars II or a Blackstar as Ive got a discount through them. I honestly wasn't thinking about having 2 lights in this tent. Is there value to having 2 lights in there? I can see the flexibility of being able to have them at different heights though is that really a benefit in a small tent such as this?

It can be valuable having 2 lights in same tent especially if you grow different strains at same time. Also, the light penetration will be greater with 2 lights, since the light will hit the sides and bottoms of plants differently from 2 panels than one.

:bravo: happy grow, nice result!!
This is 1 girl harvested yesterday for 4/20. This is all wet weight but will post dry weight when it is available. This is Norther Lights x Big Bud and was chopped 60 days in bloom. the totals are on the scales.... it is 4+ oz popcorn bud and trim and 7+ oz buds all wet of course as it was just cut yesterday. I am going to cut the Sugar Black Rose later this week and the AKxWW next week. This was all grown under the 3w reflector.....:circle-of-love:

Alex, when you start your new thread there, please let know i'm happy to join in! happy grow!:cheertwo:
Hi Sara, I do have a thread but it began as a "slowth growth in coco" started in the coco growing forum and much to my delight it has now turned into "look how great my plants are doin".. I'm about to begin a new thread in the led section, I have my 96x3w reflector finishing up an auto that i posted pics of a few days ago and now have my old model 300w flowering a G13 labs purple kush, also have started a few seedlings, so def need to get a thread going, I can tell u I haven't tried my MarsII yet but both these 300w models are just awesome, I am so glad I found this thread and bought these lights!!
Here's the purple kush which is now under the old model 300w, up until this point she has been with the LA Diva under the 96x3w, that light did both plants very very nicely!!

And here's the La Diva again, she has been under the 96x3w since seeding, though I did move her under some cfls for a few days when I was having the slow growth in coco, figured the light maybe to powerful for seedlings though that wasn't the case, my problem was that I flushed the coco before use when I should have used it as is. She ended up doing just great and is getting soooo frosty!!

oh, sativacat! good luck! hope you have a nice harvest!:Namaste::circle-of-love:
I recently started my first grow using the 96x3w light. Wish me luck!

Though I am wondering if I should have gotten the 144x3w for this tent.

Is there anyone from Poland? we have 4pieces mars II 400w lights there, we would like to sell at a lower price, we need urgent help from there, if anyone can email me, I would be very happy, thank you all my friends. have a great day.

Hey Sara,

I was asked this question about the Mars II lights and I really don't know how to answer it.

Why do the mars II have 5w diodes, but they are only driven to 2.1-2.2V ?

I know that LED's can't be driven all the way to their max wattage because their longevity would suffer, but why are the Mars II driven less than 1/2 of the actual LED diode wattage? shouldn't they be driven harder like around 3W or so?

Is there a reason that the Mars II diodes are only driven less than 1/2 power?

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but are you not confusing V with W? My Mars II 900w draws just shy of 450w, there are 180 Diodes in my light, so if i divide my draw by the number of LED's it gives 2.5w draw from each Diode, (theoretically)

With this is mind, if they did draw to their full potential (of 5w), there wouldn't be any gain against HID as far as consumption is concerned

Just my 5 pence ;)

Yep, I meant 2.1 to 2.1W not Volts. But yea, really my question is why are the 5w LED's on the 80x5w version driven so low? I know that there is a point with LED's where more Wattage doesn't equal more intensity in a tight ratio and but I was just wondering why the 5w LED's are driven less than 1/2 power on the smaller Mars II version I have.

I guess I would compare this to their 3w model, the 144x3w. The total output is 280 roughly and there are 144 diodes, meaning that the 3w diodes are driven at 1.9W, more than half, so why with the Mars II 5w diodes are they driven almost just as hard as the 3w diodes.?

This is just a wild stab in the dark, but I'm guessing that it had to do with lifespan of bulbs, heat, and considering the distance from canopy, probably height concerns for growers. Most people want led, but can't afford to have it 4 feet above plants with limited space. Again, wild stab

ok, here is the answer.

take blue color as example:
The voltage is fixed, chip factory decided, it is 3.2~3.4V. we can only change current to change wattange. while Epistar suggest we use 700mA.so 2.48 is the max wattange we can make. the chip size will decide how bright the light is . 3w chip is 42ml, 5w is 45ml. ml is the unit of chip size.

hi peyton! nice work. happy grow!!:bravo:
vegged under cfl, flowering with the mars II 400. only 21 days in and am very happy with the results! cant wait to see how they turn out in a few more weeks

thank you Sara. couldn't have done it without the led. and another thanks to the rest of you here for helping make the choice so easy with your reviews and beautiful journals, giving proof that we're on the forefront of technology for the craft we love so dearly

I think I found what they are, anyone had Springtails before?
Looks similar but I can't see the underside..

This is the bugs I have:

This is Springtails at different stages of growth:
image9646.jpg

That's all that I can find that look anything like what I have..
I have caught thousands, the hydrogen peroxide just pissed them off..
Need a safe soil drench that will kill these bastards and not hurt my plants???

If they are Springtails they are supposed to be beneficial to soil but no way, there are too many and apparently breed by the 10,000's
