Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

Although it's great that Flyboy has provided us with food for thought, let's keep things in perspective. Most of us had no clue about any of the technical aspects of these lights. WE came to this thread hoping to find an LED light we could afford that would give us good results and judging from the all the pictures and grow journals I have seen I think most of us can say we acheived what we set out to accomplish in the beginning.

As an added bonus we have been exposed to great growers who have shared their knowledge and our understanding has evolved greatly since we began our quest to be better growers. At the same time Mars Hydro has also been evolving as they also learn from their test growers and forum comments. I think that Mars will continue to embrace our input and adjust accordingly as they have from the beginning of this thread.

I took the time recently to read Dennise's grow journals from the beginning and saw her chrysalis from a noobie with a million questions thirsting for knowledge to an accomplished grower with great results and now she is dispensing advice and sharing with others. She is just one of many fine people here on :420: who have been so helpful.

It's great that Flyboy has been willing to share what he has learned with both Mars Hydro and it's customers and I will be seeking out his advice in the future when I am ready to move up to a larger more productive set up. Some one in a state with more relaxed laws and unlimited space and finances could surely make good use of all of the Technical Knowledge Flyboy provides. Many of us find ourselves just hoping to stay under the radar and keep the gestapo from kicking our door in while medicating ourselves and friends to the best of our ability. Thanks to Mars Hydro and the helpful fellow growers here I have been able to do that.

Sara, I think Mars Hydro should make the best use of Flyboy's equipment and knowledge and make him a tester and possibly put him on the payroll. In the future you should consider not releasing a product for sale until it has been fully tested and all the bugs have been worked out.

Happy Growing to us all in the New Year coming and may our crops flourish as we continue to evolve as growers. :)

For me the lights work and that is my main concern, perhaps the spectrum is not the best but whose really is ? Perhaps they just fit my style of growing but then again there are pictures of some mighty nice flowers here. I think the new lights have caused a bit of frustration and it would not be long before someone " Lifts the Dress and Check the Workings" at that point a person gets vary critical of what they find. I really do not think the perfect light exists and there is a lot of trash out there, all in all Mars makes a decent light but the jury is still out on the Pro Series it needs some serious rework on the controls to make it a great light.

Sara on the other hand is a Joy to interact with and does everything possible to work for us and all the other employees I have dealt with have been great. They make the Co what it is and I feel for them when they have to deal with things that they have no control over. I tried another manufactures Cree lights that were Dumb (only on or off) it arrived in pieces but I was able to make it work needed replacement driver cases, No Sara, no parts, no help, and glad I got my money back and it had a 3 year worthless warranty.

Will I buy more Mars lights YES but at least for now I will be happy with the older lights and see where this all ends up till then

Merry Christmas and may all your trees be full of BUDS:xmas:

:thanks: thank you, here is our spectrum test for Epistar320 at the website, 100% blue and 100% red.
Bloom_Spectrum_for_Epistar320.jpg

The spectrums we use are 440nm, 460nm, 630nm ,660nm, 2700k-3000k. Red will peak at 630nm and 660nm.:cheesygrinsmiley: but there is difference. It seems your Red peaks higher than blue compared to our test.
Here is a screen shot

:circle-of-love: we don't put spectrum test for MarsII at the new website, but the old website has it. Here is what the spectrum for MarsII400.
80X5W_Spectrum.jpg

The spectrum we use for MarsII series is 440nm, 460nm, 630nm ,660nm,730nm(IR), 2400k-3000k. :hmmm: The difference looks big. I will check with engineer. :Namaste:
Well this is the test from the MarsHydro II 400w ,
Not as they claim

:circle-of-love: Haha, flyboy, why this post will be removed. You have put a lot efforts to test the spectrum.:thumb: I haven't pay much attention to spectrum before. But now it seems our lights peak higher at 630nm than 660nm.:Namaste:
It's actually all the lights so far are not as claimed , red is wrong , should be higher at 660nm , not the two blue spikes it should have
And trust me , these posts will be removed quickly, when they come on here and see this

:circle-of-love: The old mode has more white diodes percentage than other series.
Here is the test from the Mars 300w 5w led , the cheap ones on eBay , I would recommend them over the others so far, they have the best spectrum for the money.

:circle-of-love: Hi Glitch, don't worry. MarsII will work well in flower. We have done a lot research to find out the spectrum and ratio and they have proved effective.:high-five:
Damn. That's missing alot of red. That's the light in ordered too. May have to use cfl again. And LED for veg. Damn it.

Sent from my Nexus 6 using 420

:circle-of-love:Here is our spectrum test for Cree128.
Spectrum_test_for_Cree128.jpg

The spectrums we use are 440nm, 630nm,660nm, 2700k-3000k. :high-five:
Here is the pro Cree 128 , best spectrum so far , to bad it covers the smallest area , it won't cover a 4x2 , more like a 2x3 maybe.

:thanks: thanks, flyboy.:Namaste: Here is our spectrum test for Reflector96x5w.
Spectrum_Test_for_Reflector96.jpg

It seems you have better result.:circle-of-love:
Here is the reflector series, pretty good spectrum , would recommend

:circle-of-love: Hi Niknaks, now as it's winter, it usually takes five to seven business days for delivery. During holiday, it will be longer.
How long does it usually take to ship to the states?

:thanks: yes, I am curious to know the difference so I have asked all the tests result from the engineer and post them. :cheesygrinsmiley:
I was just going to ask you to do the reflector series if you had one but you beat me to it 420, thanks for posting those results man. It's interesting to see the true spectrum vs what they claim

:thumb: thanks for the suggestion, Cannabliss. Your idea is what I want...:dreamy: but then the cost will be higher. We need to work with software designing company to achieve this. :Namaste: I do agree that eigher let it be simple or develop it to be better. :high-five:
As far as the mars pro goes, the company should really listen to customer feedback and get rid of the remote. Don't get rid of the ability to customize, just put a small display screen somewhere on the light so you can adjust the settings. You need to have both a display screen and a remote, you can't just have the remote, if the remote gets broke or lost then your fucked, that's why you need a display screen too, it's common sense. If the company was smart they would ditch the remote all together, add a display screen, and then create a smartphone app. Then you could have an option to download the app for an extra couple bucks if you wanted a remote, and you could also monitor the status of the light while you're away from home.

If you fixed these problems a lot more people would consider buying these lights. The way the lights are right now, I personally don't think they are worth the money, that's just my opinion though.

:cheesygrinsmiley: Ok, let's do it, for the sake of 1000pcs sales.
This is the most obvious and best solution for those unpopular remotes.
Mars Directors/Engineers: this simple change alone will sell 1000's more of these lights....

:laughtwo:Gnarl... if only I had half of the composition talent of yours, my English teacher would have loved me more. :cheesygrinsmiley: You get A+.:thumb:
"Miss Luscious Plant, do you realize that state of the art testing equipment has shown that the Mars II 1200 in your 5x5 tent has demonstrated beyond scientific doubt that you should not be so bushy and covered with frost? You are severely under wattage and the light intensity drops off significantly around the edges of the tent, most noticeably in the corners. Further more the spectrum is totally out of whack!"

"I'm so sorry boss, but didn't my clone sisters that you harvested a few months back satisfy you? Didn't your friends get high? Were they disappointed? What was it Rick, who has smoked daily for the past 50 years and makes regular trips to Denver said when you gifted him buds?"

"No, Luscious they all got fried and wanted more! Rick said it was some of the best Gnarly Ass Green buds he ever smoked."

SO who you gonna believe boss? Your frazzled brain or some geeky fancified transistor radio? And boss...."

"Yes, Luscious?"

" About that remote ....."

"Yes Luscious, I'll just water you and don't worry, I won't buy any stinking remote. Carry on Baby Girl!"

There you have it straight from the lady's own mouth. Growing a weed doesn't require rocket science and the proof is the buzz.
